Sixteen years ago, I had an unforgettable experience in my life. It was on that day that I learned an important life 16 in the back of a New York City taxi. Here's what happened.
I was on my 17 to Grand Central Station, and we were driving in the right lane(车道) when a black car 18 jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My driver hit the brakes(刹车) hard, made a loud noise and our taxi 19 a few centimeters from the back of the other car. The driver of the other car, the man who had just nearly caused a huge accident, started 20 at us angrily. My taxi driver just smiled and
waved at him. He was really friendly!
“Why did you just do that?” I asked him 21 . “This guy almost destroyed your car and could have sent 22 to the hospital!” Later I understood what the taxi driver meant and I 23 it “the Law of Garbage Trucks(垃圾车法则)” when I grew up.

just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You'll be 27 because of what you have done.”
I started thinking: how 28 do I let garbage trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and dump it 29 other people—at work, at home, or on the street? I began to see Garbage Trucks.
I see the weight that people are carrying. I see them coming to 30 .
And like my taxi driver, I don't take it personally. I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on. It was on that day that I said: “I'm not going to dump anymore.”

On the first day of school, our professor challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around, when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned round to find a little old lady looking up at me with a smile that lit up her face. She said, “Hi, handsome! I'm Rose. I'm 87 years old. Can I give you a hug?”
I laughed and enthusiastically(热情地) replied, “Of course! Why are you in college at such a young, innocent(天真的) age?” I asked. She jokingly replied, “I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have children, and then travel around.”
“No seriously,” I asked. I was curious why she received this challenge at this age.
“I always dreamed of having a college education, and now I'm getting one,” she told me.
We became friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk for hours. Listening to this “time machine” as she shared her years of wisdom(智慧) and experience with me was so interesting.
Over the year, Rose became a school icon(偶像) and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she enjoyed the attention from the other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the term, we invited Rose to speak at a student meeting.
I'll never forget what she taught us. As she began to give her prepared speech, the whole room fell silent.
“We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only a few secrets to staying young. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. There are many people walking around who are dead, and they don't actually know it,” she said. “There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow older.
That doesn't take any talent or ability,” she added. “But growing up requires finding the chance in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what they did, but rather for things they did not do.”

A.Growing up means much more than just growing older.
B.People never regret what they have done when they grow old. C.She gave a wonderful speech about the courses she took.
