The concept of love of contemporary
college students
In the colorful college life, love is definitely an important topic that cannot be ignored. Every day you can see pairs of lovers hold hands and take walks in the campus; you may hear the same old story that Peter and Mary reconnect after many times of parting; you would even be asked to make a public speech about LOVE in your English class. All of these seem to tell us one truth: as university students in such a blossom age, we cannot get rid of that word unless you are an impassive person.
Then come some inevitable questions: what attitude should we hold? And how can we handle love-related problem? Recently our learning group has made an interesting investigation. We prepared several questions, and the participants would give us their answers. And we aimed to explore their different concept of love based on the result of the survey.
For example, we ask the interviewers: if possible, which one would you choose as your partner, Yang Guo or Wei Xiaobao? There were 19 students attending this investigation in all, 14 of them chose Yang and 5 chose Wei. Then we asked the interviewer about the reasons why she made previous choice. Those who chose Yang said it was because of Yang’s handsomeness, loyalty, persistence, and special skills (Kong Fu); the others chose Wei because he is optimistic, humorous, passionate,
and conversable.
Consequently, we got the following conclusion:
First, when faced with the selection of a partner, girls usually give priority to appearance, then follows personality and characteristic. It is natural because appearance accounts for a large proportion of one’s first expression. During the next period, with the mutual understanding deepened, the influence of personality becomes more and more obvious.
Second, the ideal and perfect love only exists in fairy tales. Once there are some practical factors involved, such as economic interests, pressure from family, the uncertainty of love will be greatly increased. It seems that if you want to “live happily ever after” with somebody, you have to make great efforts and stick to the end.
What’s more, most of the interviewers agreed that college students should develop romantic relationships in the campus. They believed engaging a relationship will not impact school work, instead it contributes to enriching one’s life, help develop one’s personality and emotion. After all, it is regrettable without falling in love during the four years’ college life. Whatever difficulties and obstacles there will be in the future, college students still maintain an optimistic attitude to love.
