2018年英语六级阅读理解-1附答案因考试政策、内容不断变化与调整,下面是给大家提供的阅读理解范文供参考,以下是小编给大家整理2018年英语六级阅读理解-1,希望可以帮到大家eBayeBay is a global phenomenon-the world's largest garage sale, online shopping center, car dealer and auction site with 147 million registered users in 30 countries as of March 2005. You can find everything from encyclopedias to olives to snow boots to stereos to airplanes for sale. And if you stumble on it before the eBay overseers do, you might even find a human kidney or a virtual date.eBay BasicseBay is, first and foremost. an online auction site. You can browse through categories like Antiques, Boats, Clothing & Accessories, Computers & Networking,Jewelry & Watches and Video Games. When you see something you like, you click on the auction title and view the details, including pictures, descriptions, payment options and shipping information. If you place a bid on an item, you enter a contractual agreement to buy it if you win the auction. All auctions have minimum starting bids, and some have a reserve price-a secret minimum amount the seller is willing to accept for the item. If the bidding doesn't reach the reserve price, the seller doesn't have to partwith the item. In addition to auctions, you can find tons of fixed-price items on eBay that make shopping there just like shopping at any other online marketplace. You see what you like, you buy it, you pay for it and you wait for it to arrive at your door. You can pay for an item on eBay using a variety of methods, including money order, cashier's check, cash, personal check and electronic payment services like PayPal and BidPay. It's up to each seller to decide whichpayment methods he'll accept.Just as you can buy almost anything on eBay, you can sell almost anything, too. Using a simple listing process, you can put all of the junk in your basement up for sale to the highest bidder. When you sell an item on eBay,you pay listing fees and turn over a percentage of the final sale price to eBay.Once you register (for free) with eBay, you can access all of your eBay buying and selling activities in asingle location called "My eBay."eBay InfrastructureA series of service disruptions in 1999 caused real problems for eBay's business. Over the course of threedays, overloaded servers intermittently shut down, meaning users couldn't check auctions, place bids or complete transactions during that period. Buyers, sellers and eBay were very unhappy, and a complete restructuring of eBay's technological architecture Followed. In 1999, eBay was one massive database server and a few separate systems running the search function. In 2005, eBay is about 200 database servers and 20 search servers. The architecture is a type of grid computing that allows for both error correction and growth. With the exception of the search function, everything about eBay can actually run on approximately 50 servers-Web servers, application servers and data-storage systems. Each server has between 6 and 12 microprocessors. These50 0r so servers run separately, but they talk to each other,so everybody knows if there is a problem somewhere. eBay can simply add servers to the grid as the need arises. While the majority of the site can run on 50 servers,eBay has four times that. The 200 servers are housed in sets of 50 in four locations, all in the United States. When you're using eBay, you may be talking to anyone of those locations at any time-they all store the same data. If one ofthe systems crashes. there are three others to pick up the slack. When you're on the eBay Web site and you click on a listing for a Persian rug, your computer talks to Web servers, which talk to application servers, which pull data from storage servers so you can find out what the latest bid price is and how much time is left in the auction. eBay has local partners in many countries who deliver eBay's static data to cut down on download time, and there are monitoring systems in 45 cities around the world that constantly scan for problems in the network.Using eBay: SecurityIn order to make buyers feel safer when making purchases on eBay, all tangible (有形的) items are automatically insured for $200. A recipe that was supposed to be delivered to you via e-mail is not considered a tangible item. But if you purchased a set of speakers that never arrived, and you go through the dispute process and eBay determines you were defrauded (欺骗), you can get your money back up to $200.Buyer FraudBuyer fraud is typically less damaging than seller fraud. The most common type of fraud a buyer can commitis simply not paying for an item. Sellers can deal with non-paying bidders by filing an Unpaid Item dispute. eBay will then attempt to contact the buyer and get her to pay. If she does not respond to eBay's attempts after eight days, the seller is reimbursed(赔偿) for eBay's cut of the final sale price and can relistthe item for free. If the buyer does respond, the dispute can end in one of three ways:The buyer decides to pay, and everybody's happy. The buyer and the seller decide together to abandon the transaction, the seller gets reimbursed for the final-value fee and relists the item for free, and everybody's happy. The seller decides noe to deal with the buyer, the buyer gets anunpaiditem strike against her, and the seller gets reimbursed for the final-value fee and relists the item for free.In the end, the damage to the seller is relatively small. Another type of buyer fraud occurs when a buyer sends false payment. In most cases, this is in the form of a bounced check, and the seller finds out about it before shipping the item. Bounced checks are as common on eBay as they are in the rest of the world, and many sellers choose not to accept personal checks for this reason.Seller FraudSeller fraud is what most people think about when they worry about using eBay. There are two main ways in which a buyer can be defrauded by a seller: The item the buyer purchased is dramatically different from how it was described in the listing; or the item simply never arrives. One thing to keep in mind when you think you've been defrauded is that miscommunication is common on eBay.For instance, if you didn't read every word of the auction listing for your item, you may have missed the part that said the seller would be out of town for three weeks and wouldn't be able to ship the item untilshe returned. This could be why you don't have your item and the seller isn't answering your e-mails. Also,e-mail is not the most straightforward form of communication. If your item hasn't arrived after two weeks, and you've e-mailed the seller but haven't heard back, it's a good idea to check your junk mail folder. Your seller may have sent a response e-mail that just never made it to your inbox. If there's nothing fromthe seller in your junk folder, you can request that eBay reveal your seller's phone number so you can give him a call and see what's going on.If you don't get an answer to your phone call (or if your seller lives in another country and it would cost too much money to call), your next step is to start the dispute process. When a buyer believes he has beendefrauded, he can file a complaint, and eBay will work to solve the problem. When you file a complaint in eBay's "Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described" system,eBay will act as middleman between you and your seller to try to settle the dis pute. lf that fails, you can file a claim to get reimbursed for your purchase.1. Although it was called tiger, it looked like a dog with black stripes on its back and it was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modem times. Yet, despite its fame for being one of the most fabled animals in the world, it is one of the least understood of Tasmania's native animals. The scientific name for the Tasmanian tiger is Thylacine and it is believed that they have become extinct in the 20th century.Fossils of thylacines dating from about almost 12 million years ago have been dug up at various places in Victoria, South Austnilia and Western Australia. They were widespread in Australia 7000 years ago, but have probably been extinct on the continent for 2000 years. This is believed to he because of the introduction of dingoes around 8000 years ago. Because of disease, thylacine numbers may have been declining in Tasmania at the time of European settlement 200 years ago, but the decline was certainly accelerated by the new arrivals. The last known Tasmanian Tiger died in Hobart Zoo in 1936 and the animal is officially dassilied jis extinct. Technically, this meansthat it has not been officially sighted in the wild or captivity for 50 years. However, there are still unsubstantiated sightings.Hans Naarding, whose study of animal had taken him around the world, was conducting a survey of a species of endangered migratory, bird. What he saw that night is now regarded as the most credible sighting recorded of thylacine that many believe has been extinct for more than 70 years."I had to work at night",Naarding Uikes up the story. "I was in the habit of inlermittently shining a spotliglit around. The beam fell on an animal in front of the vehicle, less than 10m away. Instead of risking movement by grabbing for a camera, I decided to register very carefully what I was seeing. The animal was about the size of a small shepherd dog, a very healthy male in prime condition. What set it apart from a dog, though, was a slightly sloping hindquarten with a fairly thick tail being a straight continuation of the backline of the animal. It had 12 distinct stripes on its hack, continuing onto its butt. I knew perfectly well what I was seeing. As soon as I reached for the camera,it disappeared into the tea-tree underprowth and scrub."The director of Tasmania's National parks at the time,Peter Morrow, decided in his wisdom to keep Naarding's sighting of the thylacine secret for two years. When the news finally broke,it was accompanied by pandemonium. I was besieged by television crews, including four to five from Japan, and otliers from the United Kingdom, Germany, New Zealand and South Ainerica,w said Naarding.Government and private search parties combed the region, but no further sightings were made. The tiger, as always, had escaped to its lair, a place many insist exists only in ourimagination. But since then, the thylacine has staged something of a comeback, becoming part of Australian mythology. There have been more than 4,000 claimed sightings of the beast since it supposedly died out, and the average claims each year reported to authorities now number 150. Associate professor of zoology at the University of Tasmania, Randolph Rose, has said he dreams of seeing a thylacine. But Rose, who in his 35 years in Tasmanian academia has fielded countless reports of thylacine sightings, is now convinced that his dream will go unfulfilled."The consensus among conservationists is that, usually, any animal with a population base of less than 1,000 is headed for extinction within 60 years,” says Rose. “Sixty years ago, there was only one thylacine that we know of, and that was in Hobart Zoo,he says.Dr. David Pemberton, curator of zoology at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, whose PhD thesis was on the thylacine, says that despite scientific thinking that 500 animals are required to sustain a population, the Florida panther is down to a dozen or so animals and, while it does have some inbreeding problems, is still ticking along. Mril take a punt and say that,if we manage to find a thylacine in the scrub, it means that there are 50-plus animals out there. After all, animals can be notoriously elusive. The strange fish known as the coelacanth, with its "proto-legs",was thought to have died out along with the dinosaurs 700 million years ago until a specimen was dragged to the surface in a shark net off the south-east coast of South Africa in 1938.Wildlife biologist Nick Mooney has the unenviable task of investigating all wsightingsw of llie tiger totalling 4,000 sincethe mid-1930s, and averaging about 150 a year. It was Mooney who was first consulted late last month about the authenticity of digital photographic images purportedly taken by a German tourist while on a recent bushwalk in the state. On face value,Mooney says, the account of the sighting, and the two photographs submitted as proof, amount to one of the most convincing cases for the species' survival he has seen. And Mooney has seen it all—the mistakes, the hoaxes, the illusions and the plausible accounts of sightings. Hoaxers aside, most people who report sightings end up believing they have seen a thylaeine, and are themselves believable to the point they could pass a lie-detector test, according to Mooney. Otliers, having tabled a creditable report, then become utterly obsessed like the Tasmanian who has registered 99 thylacine sightings to date. Mooney has seen individuals bankrupted by the obsession, and families destroyed. "It is a blind optimism tliat something is,rather than a cynicism that something isn’t,” Mooney says. “If something cr osses the road,it’s not a case of ‘I wonder what tliat was?* Rather, it is a case of 'that's a thylacine!' It is a bit like a gold prospector's blind faith,"it has got to be there".However, Mooney treats all reports on face value. I never try to embarrass people, or make fools of them. But the fact that I don't pack the car immediately they ring can often be taken as ridicule. Obsessive characters get irate tliat someone in my position is not out there when they think the thylacine is there."But Hans Naarding, whose sighting of a striped animal two decades ago was the highlight of Ma life of animal spotting",remains bemused by the time and money people waste on tigersearches. He says resources would be better applied to saving the Tasmanian devil, and helping migratory bird populations that are declining as a result of shrinking wetlands across Australia.Could the thylacine still be out there? MSure,w Naarding says. But he also says any discovery of surviving thylacines would be Mrather pointless". MHow do you save a species from extinction? What could you do with it? If there are thylacines out there, they are better off right where they are."Questions 14-17Complete the summary below.Choose NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS from the passage for each answer.Write your answers in boxes 14-17 on your answer sheet. The Tasmanian tiger, also called thylacine, resembles the look of a dog and has 14_________onitsfUrcoat.M£inyfossilshavebeenfound,showingthatthylacines had existed as early as 15______________years ago.
2018年6月英语六级阅读理解-6神童Violin prodigies (神童), I learned, have come in distinct waves from distinct regions. Most of the great performers if the late 19th and early 20th centuries were born and brought up in Russia and Eastern Europe.I asked Isaac Stern, one of the world’s greatest violinists the reason for this phenomenon. It is very clear, he told me. They were all Jews(犹太人) and Jews at the time were severely oppressed and ill treated in that part of the world. They were not allowed into the professional fields, but they were allowed to achieve excellence on a concert stage. As a result, every Jewish parent’s dream was to have a child in the music school because it was a passport to the West.Another element in the emergence of prodigies, I found, is a society that values excellence in a certain field to nurture (培育) talent. Nowadays, the most nurturing societies seem to be in the Far East. “In Japan, a most competitive society, with stronger discipline than ours. ”says Isaac Stem, children are ready to test their limits every day in many fields, including music. When Western music came to Japan after World WarⅡ, that music not only became part of their daily lives, but it became a discipline as well. The Koreans and Chinese as we know, are just as highly motivated as the Japanese. That’s a good thing, because even prodigies must work hard. Next to hard work, biological inheritance plays an important role in the making of a prodigy. J. S. Bach, for example, was the top of several generations of musicians, and four of his sons had significant careers in music. Choose correct answers to the question:1.Jewish parents in Eastern Europe longed for their children to attend music schoolbecause ______ .A. it would allow them access to a better life in the WestB. Jewish children are born with excellent musical talentC, they want their children to enter professional fieldsD. it would enable the family to get better treatment in their own country2.Nurturing societies as mentioned in the passage refer to societies that______ .A. enforce strong discipline on students who want to achieve excellenceB. treasure talent and provide opportunities for its full developmentC. encourage people to compete with each otherD. promise talented children high positions3.Japan is described in the passage as a country that attaches importance to______ .A. all-round development.B. the learning of Western musicC. strict training of childrenD. variety in academic studies4. Which of the following options helps show music geniusto the passage?A. A natural gift.B. Extensive knowledge of music.C. Very early training.D. prejudice - free society.5.Which of the following titles best summarizes the main idea of the passage?A. Jewish Contribution to Music.B. Training of Musicians in the WorldC. Music and SocietyD.
Find Your Heart's Desire and Realize Your PotentialOne of the most wonderful and exciting facts about your life is that you already know a lot of the things you need to know to become the person you want to be. You have your "heant's desire" deep inside of you. There's something that you were put on this earth uniquely to accomplish. There's something that you, and only you, can do. And when you find your heart's desire, you'll have the key to unlocking your potential inevery other part of your life. You'll have the key to happiness, satisfaction, fulfillment and the joy that's your natural birthright.Take Some Time to Determine Your Ideal LifestyleTake some time to determine the kind of person you'd like to be, and the kind of person you'd have to become in order to live the kind of life that you'd like to live. Remember, you can't accomplish it on the outside until you become it on the inside. To unlock your inner potential, you must set very clear, challenging and, yet, realistic goals and then make plans to accomplish them. You need to work,step-by-step, every day, in the direction of your dominant aspirations. You need to developan unshakable level of self-confidence that makes you virtually unstoppable.Momentum Is the Key to Long-Term SuccessThe momentum theory of success simply says that while it may take lO units of energy to get you moving in a particular direction, it takes only one unit of energy to keep you moving once you're in motion. You have the principle of momentum working in your favor. How do you use the momentum principle in your life? Well,it's simple.Let's say that your goal is to become financially independent. To do this, you have to pay off all of your existing debts and build up a cash reserve of three to six months of living expenses. When you reach that point, your entire personality will change. You'll be more clearheaded, you'll be more positive, you'll be more determined, you'll be more optimistic, you'll be a finer and better human being when you absolutely know that you're not dependent upon anyone for your living expenses. You'll be able to choose the job you want to do and go to the places you want to go. You won't have to tolerate any situation that you do not enjoy or that you feel isn't the best use of your personal potential. If you simultaneously work on strengthening your self-discipline and using it to achieve the goal of financial independence, you'll become a better, stronger and more powerful human being. You'll cast off the bonds of helplessness and begin to feel that there's nothing in the world that you can't do or be or have. When you set clear goals or objectives for yourself, when you dream big dreams and then determine to become the kind of person who's capable of achieving the kind of goals that you want to achieve, you convince yourself, at a deep, subconscious level, that you're absolutely unstoppable. You realize at last that nothing in the world can hold you back except your own thinking, and you don't even let your own thinking limit your potential. What Beliefs Might You Have that Are Holding You Back? Each one of us has feelings of inferiority that are manifested in the conclusion that we are not good enough. We think that we are not as good as other people, and we feel that we are not good enough to acquire and enjoy the things that we want in life. Very often, we feel that we don't deserve good things. Even if we do work hard and achieve some worthwhile objectives. we believe that we are not really entitled to our successes, and we often engage in behaviors that sabotage our successes. The fact is that you deserve every good thing that you are capable of acquiring as the result of the application of your talents. The only real limitation on what you can be and have is your absence of desire. Ifyou want something badly enough, nothing in the world can stop you from getting it. if you are willing to persist long enough and hard enough. Over and over. we find that our beliefs, more than anything else, actas the brakes on our capacities. We have high hopes and dreams and aspirations, but we let doubts creep inand undermine our competence and effectiveness. The most harmful beliefs that you can have are what we call "self-limiting beliefs." These are beliefs about yourself, most of which are not true;but they hold you back nonetheless. Sometimes you, or others, willsay that you cannot achieve certain goals because you did not get enough education. Somertimes you will say that it is because of your gender or race or age or the state of the economy. The starting point to change your beliefs is to get up the courage to question them seriously. Question your basic premises. Check your assumptions. Ask yourself, "What assumptions am I making about myself or my situation that might not be true?"It's a fact that we fall in love with our excuses and our assumptions. We fall in love with our reasons for not moving ahead. Even if someone comes along and challenges those reasons, even if someone tells you that you have the capacity to accomplish marvelous things, you will argue with him. If someone tells you that you can do far better than you're doing right now, you will come up with reasons to dispute this person's greater belief in your potential.Believing in YourselfYour beliefs about reality are based on a thousand influences, many of which began even before you were aware of what was going on. You have beliefs that are deep and beliefs that are shallow. Deep beliefs, with regard to your religion or your political party or your family, or especially yourself, are very hand to change. Shallow beliefs are easily changed. And many of your beliefs are in fact very shallow. They have nosubstance to them whatsoever. If you challenge them hard enough. you'll find that they are made of tissue paper. They'll simply blow away. You can always tell what your true values and beliefs are by looking at your actions. It isntt what you say or wish or hope or intend that demonstrates what you really believe. It's only what you do. It's only the behaviors that you engage in. It's only the actions that you choose to undertake. Your values and beliefs are always expressed in your actions and behaviors.Once you've ciearly decided on the person you would like to become. you are on the path toward developing new beliefs. You then discipline yourself each day to behave exactly as you would if you were already thatperson. That simple technique. the "act as if" technique, is extraordinarily powerful. The more you act like the person you want to be, the more consistent your attitude will be with that person's. Your attitude will havethe back-flow effect of affecting your expectations. Positive expectations will have the back-flow effect of building beliefs that are consistent with them. And your beliefs will exert an influence on your values.People succeed not because they have remarkable characteristics or qualities. The most successful people are quite ordinary, just like you and me. Most of us start off poor and confused. We spend many years getting some sort ofdirection in our lives. But the turning point comes when we begin to believe that we have within us that divine spark that can lead us onward and upward to the accomplishment of anything that we really want in life.1.The key to happiness. satisfaction, fulfillment and joy is______________.A) having self-confidenceB) finding your own desireC) enjoying every day in lifeD) being devoted to your work2.An unshakable level of self-confidence enables you to___________________.A) make gradual progressB) unlock your inner potentialC) set challenging but realistic goalsD) make plans to accomplish your goals3.To be financially independent, one should________________.A) use and invest money wiselyB) find a job right after graduationC) move away from parents' homeD) pay off debts and have savings4.Once you set clear objectives for yourself, the only thing that can prevent you from going forward is________________.A) your own thinkingB) your shortcomingsC) your own financial situationD) the pressure from your family5.When we feel that we don't deserve good things, we are being influenced by the feelings of_________.A) guiltB) modestyC) inferiorityD) pessimism6.One's self-limiting beliefs would make him_____________________.A) overestimate his own abilitiesB) tend to find fault with othersC) find excuses for his failure to achieve goalsD) attribute his failure to his state of economy7.If you want to change your self-limiting beliefs, you should startwith________________.A) challenging those beliefsB) enriching your experiencesC) evaluating your situationD) setting up a practical schedule8.Beliefs about one's religion and family, which are hard to change, are regarded as________________.9.By looking at your actions and behaviors, people get to understandyour______________.10.The"act as if" technique can not only shape your attitude, but also affectyour_______________.

A big focus of the criticism of computer games has concerned the content of the games being played. When the narratives of the games are analyzed they can be seen to fall into some genres. The two genres most popular with the children I interviewed were Platformers and Beat-them-ups. Platform games such as Sonic and Super Mario involve leaping from platform to platform, avoiding obstacles, moving on through the levels, and progressing through the different stages of the game. Beat-them-ups are the games which have caused concern over their violent content. These games involve fights between animated characters. In many ways this violence can be compared to violence within childrens cartoons where a character is hit over the head or falls of a cliff but walks away unscathed.Controversy has occurred in part because of the intensity of the game play, which is said to spill over into childrens everyday lives. There are worries that children are becoming more violent and aggressive after prolonged exposure to these games. Playing computer games involves feelings of intense frustration and anger which often expresses itself in aggressive yells at the screen. It is not only the Beat-them-up games which produce this aggression;platform games are just as frustrating when the characters lose all their lives and die just before the end of the level is reached. Computer gaming relies upon intense concentration on the moving images on the screen and demands great hand-to-eye coordination. When the player loses and the words Game over appear on the screen, there is annoyance and frustration at being beaten by the computer and at having made an error. This anger and aggression could perhaps be compared to the aggression felt when playing football and you take your eye off the ball and enable the opposition to score. The annoyance experienced when defeated at a computer game is what makes gaming addictive: the player is determined not to make the same mistake again and to have one last go in the hope of doing better next time. Some of the concern over the violence of computer games has been about children who are unable to tell the difference between fiction and reality and who act out the violent moves of the games in fight on the playground. The problem with video games is that they involve(转载自中国教育文摘http://puter games affect the level of violence in children[B] There is no difference between Platform games and Beat-Them-Ups.[C] How to control anger while playing computer games[D] How to make children spend less time on computer games2. Brazil is the world’s second largest producer of soybeans behind the United States and ahead of Argentina. Most European and Asian retailers want to remain GM free.Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Brazil are going on a media offensive to prevent the legalization of genetically modified crops. Environmentalists and consumer groups for years have been able to thwart government and companies’ attempts to legalize altered food. In radio dramas that are being broadcast in remote regions, Brazilian NGOs are telling soy farmers the use of genetically modified seeds could endanger their health, their fieldsand their business. We are not saying that genetic engineering is, in principle, something bad; we say that we need more science to be sure that it will work in an appropriate way with no harm in the future, said campaign coordinator Jean-Marc von der Weid. This is both for health and environmental reasons. The other question is on economics. What we think is that in Brazil, if we approve the GMOs, we will lose a spectacular advantage that we have now. We are selling more to the international market, mostly for Europe and Asia, than we have done in our history, because we are not GMO contaminated.Another opposition group, ActionAid, has been organizing grass-roots support in Brazilian farming regions to rouse consumer sentiment against legalization. ActionAid public policy director Adriano Campolina says he is fighting for farmers to remain independent. When the small-scale farmer or a big farmer starts using this kind of seed, this farmer will be completely dependent on the transnationals, which control intellectual property rights over these seeds, he said.Brazilian scientist Crodowaldo Pavan said there should be checks on what multinationals can do, but that doesn’t mean GM seeds should be banned. He says fears over their usage are unfounded. Despite the official ban, Dr. Pavan says up to one thirdof Brazil’s soy crop is genetically modified, because GM seed is being smuggled from Argentina. Brazil’s government has invested heavily in a GM project by the U.S. biotech company, Monsanto, but the project was put on ice following a successful court challenge by consumers. The anti-GMO groups are hoping th e politicians’ preoccupation with the October presidential election will give them time to gather enough support to defeat any future attempts to legalize genetically altered crops.6. According to the passage, the issue in dispute in Brazil is ___________.[A] contamination of the environment by genetically modified crops[B] Brazils standing in the international market[C] the October presidential election[D] the legalization of genetically modified organisms7. According to the passage, Brazil is the worlds _____________ soybean producer.[A] largest[B] second largest[C] third largest[D] fourth largest8. Which of the following statements is NOT true about NGOs in Brazil?[A] They believe genetically modified crops will harm the farmers health.[B] They believe genetic engineering is altogether a bad practice.[C] They believe scientific methods should be introduced to ensure GM brings no harm.[D] They believe GMOs will harm Brazil economically.9. Which of the following statements is true about the organization called ActionAid?[A] They encourage the farmers to produce genetically modified products.[B] They encourage the farmers to depend on themselves for seeds.[C] They strongly support the legalization of genetically modified products.[D] They encourage the farmers to upgrade their farms to bigger ones.10. What does the Brazilian scientist Crodowaldo Pavan say about genetically modified products?[A] Genetically modified seeds should be banned.[B] Brazil government should crack down on the smuggling ofgenetically modified seeds.[C] The fear over the use of genetically modified seeds is uncalled for.[D] Consumers should file more law suits to protect their rights. [A] How does playing computer games affect the level of violence in children解析:文章的主题,可以从第一段中看出。

IF YOURE CONFUSED BY ALL the news about the health effects of eating fish, youre not alone. On one hand, the omega-3 fatty acids in fish are known to reduce the risk of heart disease, as the American Heart Association reminded us two weeks ago when it restated its recommendation that everybody eat at least two fish servings a week. On the other hand, fish that feed in contaminated waterways contain high levels of mercury, which can lead to cognitive problems in developing brains. Thats why pregnant women and nursing mothers are advised to limit their consumption. As if that werent confusing enough, two new studies published last week in the New England Journal of Medicine investigated the possible effects of mercury on the heart, and they seem to have reached contradictory conclusions. One found no clear link between mercury levels and heart disease; the other found that men with high levels of mercury in their toenails were more likely to suffer a heart attack than those with low levels. What are we to make of this? The first thing to remember is that this is how science proceeds, by fits and starts and seemingly contradictory results that get resolved only by further study. The second is that not all fish are created equal.Compared with all the other things you might eat, fish are an excellent source of protein. They tend to eat algae as part of theirnatural life cycle, converting it into omega-3 fatty acids that can improve your cholesterol profile. But its also true that our waterways have become increasingly contaminated with all sorts of pollutants, including mercury, and that these pollutants tend to accumulate at different levels in different species. The fish most at risk are predators high in the pelagic food chain, such as swordfish and sharks (see chart)。

My opinion on certificate crazeThe growing tendency among college students to get all kinds of certificates has now evolved into a craze. Just randomly ask a student what he or she is busily engaged in doing, quite possibly, you would get the answer that he or she is preparing for a certificate of some kind. So, why’s the craze? The reason behind this phenomenon is common — the enormous pressure of finding a job. Faced with a harsh job market, most students have no choice but to seek more certificates to parlay their qualifications. Another factor is that diploma and certificates still weighs heavily in terms of signifying one’s ability. For the sake of increasing their odds of landing a better job, the students are compelled to run from one exam to another.Though I have an open mind toward the craze on certificates, I suggest that students should be more rational when it comes to certificates, since they do not necessarily tell their ability. Instead, they should be more involved in learning and capability boosting, thus, opportunities would come quite naturally. The growing tendency … has now evolved into…be busily engaged in doingThe reason behind…harsh job markethave no choice but to…parlay their qualificationssth. weighs heavily in terms of…increasing one’s odds of…be involved in doing …be compelled to do…have an open mind toward…capability boosting本文有待提高之处:1. 微观语言点方面,有个主谓一致地方面地错误<diploma and certificates still weighs heavily);有些语句稍显啰嗦,比quite possibly, you would get the answer that… 大可简化成you’d most likely be told that… 更好,意思没有丝毫减损,表达力反而增强许多;另外某些用语多重复,比如job多次出现;为了避免此类现象,文中地the enormous pressure of finding a job 不妨改为 the enormous pressure of getting employed. Certificate crazeRecently the phenomenon of certificate craze has become a big concern of the public. It is also a new craze in the university, which seems like a routine activity on campus, for certificates do play a vital role when students look for a decent job.Admittedly, there are different purposes behind this phenomenon. Some people aim at certificates because of the employment pressure. With theadmission expansion of colleges, a great many graduates have to face the fierce competition in the job market. So it is the certificates that can make them more competitive. However, some others consider all the diploma and certificates important standards by which a person’s ability can be measured. They spare no effort to get the certificates for the sole purpose of proving that they are qualified in a certain field. Moreover, there are those who just want to enrich their life by preparing for the certificates because they really enjoy their progress. From my point of view, we should be more rational when it comes to certificates, since certificates do not necessarily prove one’s ability. Being crazy in getting certifications blindly is nothing but wasting time. To conclude, we should focus on improving our ability but not merely getting a certificate. The job market today is increasingly sophisticated, requiring workers to have specialized knowledge in their fields. As a result, becoming certified is a trend among today’s job seeking youth. More and more people, students especially, look at obtaining certification as a means to getting a better job and, therefore, enjoying brighter future. There are as many certificates as there are fields of study. Lawyers will take the LSAT, business majors will take the GMAT to further their study in the US, and those who study a foreign language, like English, might take the TOEFL, TOEIC, or any number of English certification exams. Is this necessary? Or, is the “certification craze” just a trend that will eventually pass? I myself have obtained two different certifications: one in Japanese (N2> and another in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL>. Both of these certifications have been beneficial in getting good jobs. Therefore, it is my opinion that, trend or not, the results of becoming certified are real and can be invaluable in opening up future opportunities. Part II Reading Comprehension (Skimming and Scanning>1. I have to stop by friends' home to pick up a book on my way here.M: Well, that's not a big deal. But you might at least phone if you knowyou're going to keep someone waiting.Q: What do we learn about the woman from the conversation?答案:B. She was late for the appointment. 注意对"be put out with sb"<对…… 13.W: Mark is the best candidate for chairman of the student union, isn't he?M: Well, that guy won't be able to win the election unless he gets some majority vote from women students. And I'm not sure about that.Q: What does the man mean?答案:C. It won't be easy for Mark to win the election. 14.M: Sorry to have kept you waiting, Madam. Have it deliver to my hotel then , I guess.Q: What happened to the woman's luggage?答案:A. It failed to arrive at its destination in time. 15.W: I don't think we have enough information for our presentation, but we have to give it tomorrow. There doesn't seem to be much we can do about it. M: Yeah, at this point we 'll have to make do with what we've got.Q: What does the man suggest they do?答案:A. Just make use of whatever information is available. 考点为第二人建议题,"at this point, we’ll have to do…" 这里“we 'll have to make do with what we've got.” 16.M: I am taking this great course-Psychology of Language, it's really interesting. Since you are a psychology major, you should sign up for it.W: Actually I tried to do that, but they told me I have to take language studies first.Q: What do we learn from the conversation?答案:D. The woman isn’t qualified to take the course the man mentioned. 17.W: Can you believe the way Larry was talking to his roommate? No wonder they don't get along.M: Well, maybe Larry was just reacting to something his roommate said. There are two sides to every story you know.Q: What does the man imply about Larry and his roommate?答案:A. They are both to blame. 18.M: We don't have the resources to stop those people from buying us out unless a miracle happens. This may be the end of us.W: I still have hope we can get help from the bank. After all we don't need that much money.Q: What do we learn about the speakers from the conversation?答案:A. They are in desperate need of financial assistance. Questions 19 to 22 are based on the conversation you have just heard.W: You know I’ve often wondered why people laugh at the picture of a big belly businessman slipping on a banana skin and falling on his bottom. We are to feel sorry for them.M: Actually, Laura, I think we laugh because we are glad it didn’t happen to us. But of course there is also a kind of humorous satisfaction in seeing somebody self-important making a fool of themselves.W: Yes, and there are a lot of jokes about people who are too fat or physically handicapped, you know, deaf, or short-sighted things like that. After all, it’s not really funny to be like that.M: Oh, I thin k that’s because we’re embarrassed. We don’t know how to cope with the situation. Perhaps we are even a bit frightened we may get like that, so we laugh.M: What about the custard pie routine?W: What do you mean ‘custard pie routine’?M: You know, all those old films where someone gets so outraged with his boss, He picks up a custard pie and plasters it all over the other person’s face. W: That never makes me laugh much, because you can guess what’s going to happen. But a lot of people still find it laughable. It must because of the sort of the thing we’d all love to do once in a while and never quiet have the courage to.M: I had an old aunt who used to throw cups of tea at people when she was particularly irritated. She said it relieved her feelings.W: It must have come a bit expensive.M: Not really. She took care never to throw her best china.19. C)We derive some humorous satisfaction from their misfortune. But of course there is also a kind of humorous satisfaction in seeing somebody self-important making a fool of themselves. C20. C> They don't know how to cope with the situation解读:人们之所以会嘲笑胖子或身体有残缺地人,是因为人们不知该如何处理那样地情况,文中有句有真相"We don’t know how to cope with th e situation",所以正确答案是C21. A> They themselves would like to do it but don't dare to. 对话中也几乎是原封不动地给出了答案,那是因为我们也想做却不敢做.would like to do 是love to do 地同义替换词, dare to do 又是have courage to do 地同义替换词.22. C> To relieve her feelings. She said it relieved her feelings. 除此以外,同义替换词依然是重点考察项目,如would like to do , dare to do. W: Your name Sanjay Kumar is that correct?M: Yes, madam.W: You claim you are traveling on a scholarship from Delhi University.M: That’s right.W: Now it seems that a hand gun was found in your luggage. Do you admit that?M: Yes, but…W:According to the statement you made, you had never seen the hand gun before it was found in your bag. Do you still maintain that?M: But it’s true. I swear it.W: Mmm, you do realize Mr. Kumar that to bring a hand gun into Hong Kong without proper authorization is a serious offense.M: But I didn’t bring it. I … I mean I didn’t know anything about it. It wasn’t there when I left Delhi. My bags were searched. It was part of the airport security check.W: Maybe so, but someone managed to get that hand gun onto the aircraft or it couldn’t have been there.M: Someone but not me.W: Tell me , where was your personal bag during the flight?M: I had it down by my feet between me and the man in the next seat.M: He was the only person who could have opened my bag while I was asleep. It must have been him.W: I see. Have you any idea who this man was?M: He told me his name, Alfred Foster. He was very friendly, after I woke up that is. He hadn’t spoken before.W: Alfred Foster, we can check that on the passenger list.M: He said he had a car coming to meet him. He offered me a lift.W: Oh, Why should he do that?M: So he can get his handgun back, that’s why. Please find him, Madam. Questions 23-25 are based on the conversation you have just heard23. D> Bringing a handgun into Hong Kong解读:suspect 地意思是怀疑,题目问, Sanjay Kumar 被怀疑什么?对话地开头,女警察便说到,“Now it seems that a hand gun was found in your luggage”,也就是说在Sanjay Kumar 地包里发现了一把手枪,由此可得出选项D24. D> He is suspected of having slipped something into Kumar's bag解读:从对话中,我们了解到,Sanjay Kumar 并没有携带枪支,而是坐在他身边地Alfred Foster 栽赃嫁祸,趁Sanjay Kumar 睡着时,将手枪放进他地包里,slip 有暗中塞入地意思,对应选项D25. B> Find Alfred Foster. Everyone is looking for a good investment these days. And with stocks, currencies and companies all crashing, some are finding that taking the trip of a lifetime is actually a smart move right now. Prices are good, crowds are fewer and the dividends like expanded worldview, lifelong memories, the satisfaction of boosting the global economy—can't be easily snatched away. Sylvia and Paul Custerson, a retired couple from Cambridge, England, recently took a 16-day vacation to Namibia, where they went on bird-watching excursions. Later this year, they are planning a trip to Patagonia. "We're using our capital now," says Sylvia, "And why not? We're not getting any interest in the bank. If it's a place we really want to go, then we will go. We may as well travel while we're fit and healthy. "Some travel agents are thriving in spite of the economy. "We've had more people booking in the first quarter of this year than last," says Hubert Moineau, founder of Tselana Travel, which is planning to introduce a new program of longer adventure trips, including polar expeditions and cruises in the Galápagos. "We're hearing things like, 'We don't know what the situation will be in six months so let's travel now' ", Ashley Toft, managing director of the U. K. tour operator Explore has been surprised to see an increase in last-minute bookings of high-priced trips to such places as India, Bhutan and Nepal. "It seems people would rather give up something else than the big trip," he says. Travel has become a necessity. It's just how we travel that is changing.Questions 26 to 28 are based on the passage you have just heard. 26. According to the speaker, why are some people willing to spend their money on travel these days?答案:B)They think travel gives them their money's worth.解读:推断题.本题问如今一些人愿意把钱花在旅游上地原因.第一题通常从听力开头去定位答案.文章第一句"Everyone is looking for a good investment", 紧接着说明但如今股票市场,货币投资和公司都不太景气<crashing),一些人就发现旅行不失为一个不错地“投资”,( taking the trip of a lifetime is actually a smart move> 这钱花得也值.27. What is Tselana Travel planning to do, according to its founder?答案:D> Launch a new program of adventure trips.解读:细节题.看到Tselana Travel直接锁定目标,且听力中也给出了"planning to introduce..."排除其他选秀. 旅游业兴盛起来,那么相应地旅行社等必然会采取措施,争取吸引客户获得经济利益.所以听地时候我们要格外注意,要对旅行社地行为要注意听.p28. According to Ashley Toft, managing director of Explore, what is changing now with regard to travels?答案:B> The way people travel.解读:细节题.关键词"Ashley Toft"和"changing",考生容易选C选项,因为这个Ashley Toft也提到了last-minute bookings数字地增长.但是一定要把文章听完,最后给出了"Travel has become a necessity. It's just how we travel that is changing." 2个选项一对比,B选项更为合适. The way people travel和how we travel用到了同义替换.也再次说明,听力首尾都是听力常考地重点区域,不可掉以轻心.Passage Two听力原文Somehow the old male and female stereotypes no longer fit. Men and women in this country haven’t been fulfilling their traditional r oles for some time now. And there seem to be fewer and fewer differences between the sexes. For instance, even though more women than men are still homemakers without paying jobs, women have been taking over more responsibility in the business world, earning higher salaries than ever before and entering fields of work that used to be exclusively male areas. At office meetings and in group discussions, they might speak up more often, express strong opinions and come up with more creative and practical ideas than their male colleagues.Several days ago, my 23-year-old daughter came to me with some important news. Not only had she found the highest paying job of her career, but she’d also accepted a date with the most charming men she’d ever met.“Really?”, I responded,” tell me about them.”“Receptionist in an attorney’s office and a welder at a construction site.” She answered in a matter-of-fact way. The interesting thing is my daughter’s date is the receptionist and my daughter is the welder. The old stereotypes of men’s and women’s work have been changing more quickly than ever before, except perhaps in my own marriage.“Who's going to mow the lawn? ” I asked my husband this morning.“Oh, I will,” he answered politely. ”That's men's work. ”“What?” Irritated, I raised my voice. “That's a ridiculous stereotype. I'll show you who can do the best job on the lawn.”The work took 3 hours and I did it all myself.Questions 29 to 32 are based on the passage you have just heard.篇章类型及提要:社会现象,两性关系听力点睛:本文介绍作者对男女关系地老套传统观念持质疑态度,并举例证明其观点.本文难词不多,2个例子也以对话为主,所以难度适中.文章第一句"Somehow the old male and female stereotypes no longer fit. "非常直白地表明了作者地观点.文章难度不大地,题目往往会比较讨巧,所以一定不能放松警惕.题目中地以推理为主地题目会相对比较多.精剖细析:29. What is the speaker mainly talking about?答案:B> The changing roles played by men and women.解读:主旨题.主要考察考生对主旨地理解.注意这里A选项容易让人混淆.首句中地old stereotypes会误导考生去选A.但A选项并不完整.文章不是讲老套传统地男女观念.而是对此地一个质疑,传统男女地角色正在不断改变.这也是六级做题地一个技巧.选项中出现和文章有关地重点单词,并不一定就是答案.选项还是都得仔细阅读.30. What might women do at office meetings nowadays according to the speaker?答案:A> Offer more creative and practical ideas than men.解读:细节题.此题不难,关键词"office meetings',文章中直接给出了"they might speak up more often, express strong opinions and come up with more creative and practical ideas than their male colleagues." 31. Why did the speaker mow the lawn herself that morning?答案:C> To show that women are capable of doing what men do. Florence Hayes is a journalist for the Green Ville Journal, the daily newspaper in town. Specifically she covers crime in the Green Ville area. This responsibility takes her to many different places every week——the police station, the court and the hospital. Most of the crimes that she writes about fall into two groups: violent crimes and crimes against property. There isn’t much violent crime in a small town like Green Ville, or at least not as much as in the large urban areas. But assaults often occur on Friday and Saturday nights, near the bars downtown. There’re also one or two rapes on campus every semester. Florence is very interested in this type of crime and tries to write a long article about each one. She expects that this will make women more careful when they walk around Green Ville alone at night Fortunately, there were usually no murders in Green Ville. Crimes against property make up most of Miss Heyes’ reporting. They range from minor cases of deliberate damaging of things to much more serious offenses, suchas car accidents involving drunk drivers or bank robberies but Florence has to report all of these violations from the thief who took typewriters from every unlock room in the dormitory to the thief who stole one million dollars worth of art work from the university museum. Miss Hayes enjoys working for a newspaper but she sometimes gets unhappy about all the crime she has to report. She would prefer to start writing about something more interesting and less unpleasant such as local news or politics, maybe next year Florence HayesGreen Ville篇章类型及提要:听力点睛:本文主要从Florence Hayes,一位来自Green Ville Journal地记者地工作揭示Green Ville地治安状况. 32.What is Florence Hayes’ main responsibility as a journalist?答案: B)Reporting criminal offenses in Greenville. Specifically she covers crime in the Green Ville area." 33.What does the speaker say about security in Greenville?答案:D)It has fewer violent crimes than big cities.

When it comes to traffic problems in cities, there are always different views among people. Some believe that the traffic problems are inevitable due to the rapid development of modern society. Others argue that effective measures can be taken to solve these problems. In my opinion, the traffic problems in cities can be solved if we take appropriate measures. Firstly, the government should invest more funds in the construction of public transportation systems, such as subways and buses. This will encourage more people to choose public transportation instead of private cars, which can reduce traffic congestion. Secondly, the government should implement stricter regulations on vehicle emissions to improve air quality and reduce pollution. Lastly, the public should be educated to cultivate good driving habits and raise their awareness of traffic safety. In conclusion, traffic problems in cities can be solved through the joint efforts of the government and the public.

Section D: Comprehension
Read the following two passages carefully and answer the questions 36 to 50. Fill in the most suitable answer in the brackets provided.
Passage A
Alzheimer’s disease is the fourth leading cause of death in American adults after heart disease, cancer and stroke. The disease is named after a German doctor named Alois Alzheimer who first described the disease in one of his patients in 1906. Alzheimer's disease primarily affects the elderly, although it may strike people in their 40s and 50s. Alzheimer's affects men and women equally and the average person dies within eight years of the onset of symptoms.
Alzheimer's affects the nerve cells in areas of the brain responsible for speech, thought, memory and reason. These cells die off and the victim eventually loses all ability to carry out routine everyday activities. Those afflicted with Alzheimer's experience not only memory loss and confusion, but may also suffer from hallucinations, delusions, depression and eventually total dementia. Autopsies of those who succumb to Alzheimer's typically reveal extensive lesions of the brain of a type quite particular to Alzheimer's sufferers.
In the last decade American's awareness of the disease has increased. Screen actress Rita Hayworth, who died in 1987, was a victim suffering from the early stages of the disease. Organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association (which works on behalf of those who suffer from Alzheimer's) have welcomed the greater openness that has occurred recently surrounding this devastating illness.
As the American population ages, it seems likely that the incidence of this disease, which currently afflicts 4 million Americans, will increase. This is tragic not only for the sufferers but also for their families. The disease places severe emotional and financial hardships on caregivers who frequently are family. Because Alzheimer's is a disease afflicting the mind which impacts on myriad daily tasks, sufferers often require constant supervision much as if they were small children. While research continues on the disease, at present
the causes of Alzheimer's are unknown and no known cure is available. Treatment consists largely in attempting to alleviate some of the symptoms.
