In the year 2010, the English II composition for the Chinese National Matriculation Examination, also known as the Gaokao, was a significant part of the test. The prompt for the essay typically involved a topic that required students to express their opinions on a social issue, a personal experience, or a hypothetical scenario. Here is a sample essay that could have been written in response to a hypothetical prompt for the 2010 English II composition:Title: The Impact of Social Media on Modern CommunicationIn recent years, the advent of social media has revolutionized the way we communicate. Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have become integral parts of our daily lives, offering new ways to connect with friends, family, and even strangers. This essay aims to explore the impact of social media on modern communication and discuss its advantages and disadvantages.Advantages of Social MediaFirstly, social media has made it incredibly easy to stay in touch with people across the globe. With just a few clicks, we can send messages, share photos, and engage in conversations with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds. This has fostered a sense of global community and has broadened our perspectives on various issues.Secondly, social media has become a powerful tool for selfexpression and creativity. Users can create content, such as blogs, videos, and artwork, and share it with a wide audience. This has given rise to a new generation of influencers and content creators who have the ability to inspire and entertain millions.Disadvantages of Social MediaDespite its many benefits, social media also has its drawbacks. One of the most significant issues is the spread of misinformation. The rapid dissemination of false news and rumors can lead to confusion and panic, and in some cases, even violence.Another concern is the impact of social media on mental health. Studies have shown that excessive use of social media can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. The constant comparison with others and the pressure to maintain a perfect online image can take a toll on ones selfesteem.ConclusionIn conclusion, social media has undoubtedly transformed the landscape of communication. While it offers numerous opportunities for connection and selfexpression, it also presents challenges that we must address. It is crucial for users to be mindful of the information they consume and share, and to maintain a healthy balance between their online and offline lives. As we move forward, it is essential to harness the power of social media for positive change while mitigating its potential harms. By doing so, we can ensure that this technology continues to enrich our lives and foster meaningful connections in the digital age. This sample essay provides a balanced view of the topic, discussing both the positive and negative aspects of social media on communication. It is written in a clear and coherent manner, which is essential for a highscoring composition in the English II exam.。

I prefer adjusting ourselves to new circumstances to remaining unchanged. 2 解释观点=提炼例⼦中的为什么(选择式任务要体现出⽐较) On some occasions, you have no way but to change yourself for new circumstances like cancer if you still have a dream yet to be realized. (改变的优点) On the contrary, if you refuse to gear yourself towards new circumstances, hardly can you survive, let alone realizing dreams.(不改变的缺点) 3 下⽂的结构提⽰ The story of Lance Armstrong, an American cyclist who overcame a deadly cancer, could well exemplify my point. Raised in a single-parent family, Lance Armstrong lived with his mother for over 19 years until he found our his talent for cycling and decided to move out on his own so that he could join the American national cycling team under coach Chris Carmichael. However, he exhibited somewhat traits of a teenager who lacked parental love, such as rudeness and egoism.(点出曾经的性格) To be more specific, in 1990 Amateur World Championship in Japan, he ignored the suggestion of his coach Chris that he was supposed to save energy before the final charge. Actually, at that time, he quickly pedaled to a big lead in order to show up before all the competitors. However that charge consumed him too much energy. Finally, he finished eleventh. (点出这⼈不听别⼈建议) What’s worse, he didn’t’t give his opponents any respect. Instead, he would shout at them and insult them during races. In response other riders sometimes got in his way on purpose and tried to slow him down. However, unfortunately, he was almost sentenced to death by his doctor in 1996 when he informed Lance that he suffered from testicular cancer. At the beginning, he was unable to face the music since he was always so proud of his physique. But doctors warned him that if he kept on wasting time, it would be impossible to cure him. 第三步决定改变态度(重要过渡,点题部分) In that case, he had a rethink about himself. For all these years, he had never got somewhere in the cycling field due to his unwillingness to cooperate with his coach and team members. This time if still kept unchanged, he might die later. Therefore, confronted with the new circumstance, namely, the fatal cancer, Lance Armstrong decided to change his attitudes towards others in order to overcome the disease and pedal his beloved bicycle once again. More specifically, he listened to the advice of his doctor, who encouraged him to undergo a surgery to remove one of his testicles. After a three-hour operation, he continued to take the chemotherapy. Painful though the therapy was, his bodyhandled the drugs without too many side effects. What’s more, he also strengthened his communication with his doctors. From time to time, Lance talked to his doctors about his treatment and hoped that they could use drugs that wouldn’t destroy his muscles or hurt his chance of returning to cycling someday. At last, after a treatment of over 1 year, Lance miraculously recovered and returned to the cycling field in 1998. More significant was the fact that he won seven straight victories in Tour-de-France, the World Cup in his field, which was greatly associated with his cooperation with the whole team.

However, there is an opinion that charity organizations should help people of their own country instead of giving aid to whoever in need. From my perspective, the aid should be given to those in need regardless of their nationality.Natural disasters, war or social turmoil, all these factors may render people fall into poverty and diseases. The rise of charity organizations is associated with the emergence of these disasters. They relieve people from great sufferings and give people in need hope of survival. However, there is an opinion that aid from charities should only be given to people living in their countries while others think that charity should benefit all people. I tend to believe the latter is of more justification.Body 1: why we should give help to those in great needs? What is the responsibility of charity organizations? To help those in great needs is a reflection of moral obligation/duty for human beings.(意义)And this practice of helping others will have numerous/many positive effects involving/including promoting economic development and enhancing social harmony. (影响和作用)Meanwhile, the aid from charity organizations may cover a wide range of people and may be more transparent. However, there are some disadvantages of charity organizations. The money donated by charity organizations may be taken away by local officials and cannot reach those who are really in need. What’s more, charity organiz ations tend to give aid to those areas which are frequently reported by the media. This will cause regional imbalance or even regional conflict.Body 2: whether aid from charities should only be given to local people? As for those who advocate that aid for charity organization should be given to people living in their own country, I hold conservative attitude. There is no denying that it is more effective for charity organizations to give aid to local people. However, how to ensure fairness/equality among different peoples is the priority for charities. Fair distribution of resources and aid is an objective reflection of human virtues. (反证)If every individual or every organization just focus on their own interest, the world will become indifferent and unfriendly. In conclusion, charity organization should give aid to people who are in great need without considering their social background, their nationality and something irrelevant. However, the aid should be supervised and monitored by some independent organizations for fear of corruption or embezzlement. / However, the aid should be controlled or supervised by some dependent organizations so that it can reach the targeted people.(2010.1.14) TableIn today's world, it is private companies rather than governments who pay for and carry out most scientific research. (政府决策类)Background – theme –viewIn present society, there is an increasing tendency that private companies begin to take up numerous/ various social projects. In the past, most scientific research was carried out/ performed by the government. However, the government’s role is being replaced by private enterprises. From my perspective, /in my opinion / from my point of view, /as far as I am concerned, this trend has some merits despite some negative effects / despite some drawbacks.Body 1: advantages of private company’s conducting scientific research: it is a trend that a growing number of scientific research projects are being undertaken by private companies. Obviously, there are some advantages of this tendency. (1) high efficiency.(2) cost-saving. T he ultimate purpose/target of company’s activities is to obtain profits; therefore, they will do their utmost to reduce/lower cost of research. This practice will to some degree save resources. (3)competition will make the companies involved in technological innovation.Body 2: however, there is no denying that there remain some drawbacks concerning the private company’s involvement in scientific research solely. (1) Compared with the government’s activity, private companies cover less people. (2) Insuffici ent investment. So it is not enough to carry out large scale projects such as some space exploration programs.(2010.1.23)MapThe gap between the rich and the poor is becoming wider, the rich get richer, the poor even get poorer, what problems can the situation cause and give the solutions. How?What is the gap between the rich and the poor? Why there is the gap between the rich and the poor? How to deal with the gap between the rich and the poor?(从社会现象入手) In today’s society, it is not uncommon that some people live a luxurious life with splendid houses, private airplanes and yachts. However, a majority of people are living in slums and they may worry about their next meal. It is obvious that the gap between the rich and the poor is becoming wider. This phenomenon /this issue / this problem will cause / bring about / contribute to / give rise to some negative effects on both society and individuals, so some solutions should be found out immediately.Body 1:(1) social turmoil /damage social stability. (4) unfair distribution of resources.Body 2:(1)widening income gap is largely associated with unfair education. Therefore, to narrow down the gap between the rich and poor, the government should first guarantee that people have equal access to education opportunities. (2) some new tax policies should be implemented. Specifically, more taxes should be levied against the wealthy people and these should be used in improving poor people’s living standard, building public facilities and infrastructure. (3) the government should provide people with more vacancies and job. In the meantime, more efforts should be made to reduce unemployment rate. (4) the government should provide adequate and cover-all social security.

Is it better to adapt yourself to new circumstances or to just remain unchanged?
Is it important for people to spend time outdoors and to learn to appreciate the natural environment? Should originality always be more highly praised than conformity?
Is it absolutely necessary for people to study the creative arts? Is creativity needed more than ever in the world today? Rowling。

Newspapers and magazines are the best ways of learning a foreign country? In the last 50 years, a whole host of magazines and newspapers have flooded into every aspect of our life. And the invention of IPad from Apple Co. accelerated the stream of electronic magazines and newspapers. We can see “Bloomberg” “Times” in colossal home pages of webs, and the paper-made “Economist” “ Time” sit on every shelf of bookstores, all of which disseminate travelling discount, stocks index of Dow, the change of diet habit of Native Americans, and so forth. However, take your eyes off such materials and gaze at others: we have travelling channel to inform us the latest information of Golden Bridge, have VOA to tell us a story about Obama, etc.Confronting such a reservoir of resources to provide us with international news---anything related to life of foreigners, I highly disapprove that the newspapers and magazines are the best ways to equip us with knowledge of foreign information.Firstly, newspapers and magazines are far from a channel to render us foreign culture. As is known to all, newspapers and magazines are product from writers or authors with a variety of background---they belong to the media. This origin elicits that biases can never put off limits from them. The authors say what they want to say and hear what they want to hear in this society with highly-respected rights of speech freedom. The real picture of the foreign culture is seriously vulnerable to their viewpoints and thus can readily suffer from distort. This drawback of the magazines and newspapers can be ev idenced by abundant facts. Last year, CNN covered the M&A of the government of Finland to its big fish: K’s company, an IT giant in Fi nland. It reported that this action was attributed to the rationale that this firm was entrapped in financial troubles and the government would like to save it from untimely death. However, the hidden real reason to support the government’s swallowing is i ts thirst for a national financial institution to act as a backbone to support its own operation. Because the author was a lobbyist in the F government, obviously, the reality was totally split.Furthermore, you might say that some newspapers and magaz ines are dispassionate, so such media materials would be a precious window for us to view at the outside world. Granted, not everyone is fond of prejudice. They more like to look at surroundings with pristine and sensible eyes. Even if it is true, I can just admit that newspapers andmagazines are one way to help people know about foreign culture, but it is definitely the best one to knock it’s door. World is varying second by second. All information from the third part---magazines, newspapers, TVs or other s’ words---cannot guarantee the data from last second can be transmitted to the next second. Even if “culture” from their statements were true, perhaps they are or will be outdated with time going by. Therefore, their importance is weakened and hence their status is threatened. I’d like to propose another one to compensate such downside without losing their desirable essence: experiencing the culture by oneself in that country. Take myself. I’m keen on France. So last year I travelled to the Southern part of France and lived there for about 6 months. I ate the indigenous food, took their local courses in design and art, and joined their associations to take some work like accounting, sales and waitress. This experience presented me a specimen of a real France: how the natives communicate with others, what their favorable recipes in different periods are and what dresses they prefer to design in 4 seasons respectively. I don’t think such kn owledge can derive from any media form, because magazines and newspapers may tell me a Frenchman can speak French, but it can never tell me what changes will be in his language if he joins a clap of Native Americans immigrating into French.。

我的回答是是的第一段引出,点明中心观点——focusing on goals make people more upbeat and concentrating, besides, achieving goals after hard work can bring you true happiness, that is the happiness of encountering difficulties then embrace success.

With platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, individuals can share their thoughts, experiences, and moments instantly with friends and family. This has been particularly beneficial for those who are far away from their loved ones, as it allows them to maintain close relationships and feel connected.Secondly, social media has provided a platform for people to express their opinions and engage in discussions on various topics. This has led to a more informed society where information is shared quickly, and people can learn from one another.

In the year 2010, the landscape of communication was undergoing a significant transformation due to the rapid rise of social media platforms. This essay will explore the impact of social media on communication, focusing on how it has changed the way people interact, the benefits it has brought to the table, and the challenges it has presented.Firstly, social media has revolutionized the way people communicate by providing a platform where individuals can instantly share their thoughts, experiences, and multimedia content with a global audience. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have become integral parts of daily life for many, allowing users to maintain connections with friends and family, regardless of geographical distance. The benefits of social media are manifold. It has democratized the spread of information, allowing anyone with internet access to be a publisher. This has led to a surge in citizen journalism, where ordinary people report on events happening around them, often providing a more immediate and unfiltered perspective than traditional media outlets. Additionally, social media has been a powerful tool for advocacy and social change, as seen in the organization of various global and local movements. However, the rise of social media has not been without its challenges. One of the most pressing issues is the spread ofmisinformation, or "fake news," which can have serious consequences for public discourse and trust in institutions. The anonymity and ease of sharing information on social media platforms make it a fertile ground for the rapid dissemination of false or misleading content.Another challenge is the impact on privacy. As users share more and more personal information online, concerns about data security and the potential for misuse of personal data by corporations and governments have grown. The 2010s saw a rise in awareness about the importance of digital privacy and the need for better regulation to protect individual rights. In conclusion, the year 2010 marked a pivotal moment in the history of communication with the widespread adoption of social media. While it has opened up new avenues for connection, expression, and activism, it has also presented new challenges that society is still grappling with today. As we move forward, it is crucial to find a balance that maximizes the benefits of social media while mitigating its potential harms.。

Globalization has had a significant impact on culturesall around the world. With the increasing interconnectedness of economies, societies, and cultures through technology, trade, and communication, the boundaries between different cultures have become more porous. This has led to both positive and negative effects on traditional cultures. One of the most visible effects of globalization on culture is the spread of Western culture and values. Western movies, music, fashion, and fast food chains can now be found in almost every corner of the globe. While this has led to greater cultural exchange and understanding between different societies, it has also raised concerns about the homogenization of culture and the erosion of traditional values. On the other hand, globalization has also provided opportunities for the preservation and promotion of local cultures. Cultural exports such as Bollywood films from India, K-pop music from South Korea, and traditional crafts from various countries have gained international popularity, allowing these cultures to reach a global audience. Through cultural exchange programs, festivals, and events, peoplefrom different cultures are able to share their traditionsand heritage with others. However, globalization has also posed challenges tocultural diversity. As Western culture continues to dominate the global stage, there is a risk of smaller, lessinfluential cultures being marginalized or even extinguished. The increasing commodification of culture through tourism, entertainment, and consumerism has further commodified art, music, and traditions, stripping them of their authenticity and meaning. In conclusion, globalization has had a profound impact on culture, both positive and negative. While it has facilitated greater cultural exchange and understanding, it has also raised concerns about the erosion of traditional values and the homogenization of culture. It is important for societies to strike a balance between embracing the opportunities of globalization and preserving their unique cultural heritage. Only by valuing and respecting cultural diversity can wetruly benefit from the interconnected world we live in today.。

剑10范文剑十的范文题目是“Are celebrities good role models? (名人是好的榜样吗?)”。
以下是一篇700字的范文:In today's society, celebrities have a significant influence on people's lives. Many people look up to celebrities as role models and attempt to emulate their lifestyles and behaviors. However, whether celebrities are good role models is a controversial issue. In my opinion, while some celebrities can serve as positive role models, there are also many who are not good influences. On one hand, there are celebrities who can be seen as good role models. These individuals are often successful in their respective fields and have made positive contributions to society. For example, actors and actresses who use their fame to raise awareness about important social issues, such as poverty or environmental protection, can inspire others to take action and make a difference. Additionally, some athletes demonstrate strong work ethics and determination, which can motivate people to pursue their own goals and dreams. In these cases, celebrities can serve as powerful influencers and encourage positive behavior and values. On the other hand, there are also celebrities who are not good role models. Many celebrities are known for their reckless behavior, such as drug abuse or irresponsible actions. These actions can have a negative impact on their fans and young people who idolize them. When young people see their favorite celebrities engaging in destructive behaviors, they may be more likely to emulate thesebehaviors themselves. Furthermore, some celebrities prioritize materialism and extravagance, promoting a culture of consumerism and superficiality. This can lead their fans to develop unrealistic expectations and a distorted view of success and happiness. It is important for individuals to critically evaluate the actions and behaviors of celebrities before deciding whether they are good role models. It is unrealistic to expect celebrities to be perfect, as they are human beings with their own flaws and weaknesses. However, it is crucial for celebrities to recognize the influence they have on their fans and use their platform responsibly. They should strive to set positive examples by promoting positive values, such as kindness, empathy, and hard work. By doing so, celebrities can positively impact the lives of their fans and inspire them to become better individuals. In conclusion, whether celebrities are good role models depends on their actions and behaviors. While some celebrities can serve as positive influences and promote important values, there are also many who do not set good examples for their fans. It is important for individuals to critically evaluate the actions and behaviors of celebrities and not blindly idolize them. Ultimately, everyone should strive to be their own role models and cultivate positive values in their own lives.。

While it is reasonably natural to think that adaptation makes people more flexible and easier to fit into a new environment, sometimes staying unchanged may help us achieve a goal of life.
In some cases,it is better to stick to one’s original goal and hold on.
The example of Rachel Carson well illustrates my point.
Carson’s mother was a naturalist herself and bequeathed to little Carson a life-long love of nature and the living creatures.Carson was deeply influenced by her mother and was determined to dedicate her life to the cause of studying and protecting the natural world.(营造出主人公的人生态度,人生理想)
After graduating from Johns Hopkins University,Carson was somehow hired by the U.S Bureau of Fisheries and mostly wrote radio scripts for the government. For the next15years,she stayed in federal service and worked as a government official. Most people might think of Carson as a typical government official. But unlike most of her fellow officials, who were in fanatic pursuit of high places and positions,Carson never abandoned her childhood goal----to tell people about the beauty of nature.Instead of changing and adapting herself to the typical government environment, she remained the old Carson and never changed herself.(重要点题,即使是在介绍)
During her spare time, she turned her analytical and statistical data into lyric prose:first as an article“Undersea”,and then a book”Under the sea-wind”.In1952,she published her prize-winning book“The sea around us”.At that point of her life, she made up her mind to resign from government service and devote herself to writing.(没有去适应所谓的新环境,而是坚持理想,并且去创造一个更适合自己的环境)
She published numerous books later on in life, most of which had a tremendous influence on how people viewed the world around them.In her writings,Carson led the world to appreciate the beauty and integrity of nature, rendering people realize that human is only a vulnerable part of the fragile environment, and that the only power human had is the one to alter the world, sometimes in an irreversible way.Through her writings,Rachel Carson made invaluable contributions, inspiring generations of people to relish and protect the natural world.(点出主人公的成就)
If Rachel Carson had changed her mind halfway and adapted herself to be a normal government official, she would not have achieved and contributed much as a naturalist, writer and scientist.
It is exactly her strong will to remain unchanged and make her dream come true that finally raises the awareness of the public about the significance of environmental protection.。
