Maintenance and Inspections of Fixed Carbon Dioxide
Fire-extinguishing Systems on Hong Kong Registered Shops
We refer to the requirement for maintenance and inspections of fixed carbon dioxide fire-extinguishing systems on Hong Kong registered ships.
With immediate effect, all Hong Kong registered ships shall carry out the maintenance and inspections of fixed carbon dioxide fire-extinguishing systems in accordance with Hong Kong Merchant Shipping Information Note No. 39/2009,“IMO Guidelines for the Maintenance and Inspections of Fixed Carbon Dioxide Fire-extinguishing System s”.This new requirement supersedes all previous requirements for the maintenance and inspections of fixed carbon dioxide fire-extinguishing systems on Hong Kong registered ships.

IMO Guidelines for the Maintenance and Inspections of Fixed Carbon Dioxide Fire-extinguishing Systems
To: Shipowners, Ship Managers, Ship Masters and Classification Societies
Summary
This Note draws attention to the Guidelines for the maintenance and inspections of fixed carbon dioxide fire-extinguishing systems approved by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in June 2009.
1．IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee, at its 86th session, approved the Guidelines for the maintenance and inspections of fixed carbon dioxide fire-extinguishing systems for circulation as MSC.1/Cire.1318.
2．These Guidelines provide the minimum recommended level of maintenance and inspections for fixed carbon dioxide fire-extinguishing systems on all ships to demonstrate that the system is kept in good working order as specified in SOLAS II-2/14.2.1.2. These Guidelines are also intended to supplement the fire-extinguishing system manufacturer’s approved maintenance instructions.
3．The MSC.1/Cire.1318 can be found on the webpage of Marine Department (.hk/en/msnote/msin.html) as an annex to this Note.
4．Shipowners, ship managers, ship masters, shipbuilders and classification societies of Hong Kong registered ships are encouraged to apply these Guidelines.
