In the novel, the fight between Ahab and Moby-Dick is the explanation of the relationship between human and nature. Human’s dominating nature will lead to tragedy.

Moby-dick, also known as The Whale, is a Great American Novel written by Herman Melville. It was published in 1851 during the peak time of American literature. It plays a great role in world literature. At that time The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorn and Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe were
published. The story tells the voyage of sailor Ishmael, his adventurous stories on the sea, and the voyage on the Pequod, a ship commanded by Captain Ahab. Ishmael finds that Ahab is seeking a certain white whale, Moby-Dick, which is enigmatic and ferocious. Once t his whale attacked Ahab’s ship and bit his leg. Ahab was trying to find it and kill it for revenge. After a long process of seeking Moby-Dick on the sea, Ahab and his crew finally found Moby-Dick and fought with it. However, Moby-Dick was extremely annoyed and attacked the ship and the small boats. All of the crew lost their lives except Ishmael.
The story tells the fight between Ahab and Moby-Dick; the relationship among Ahab and the sailors on the ship, and the relationship between man and society. As people say Moby-Dick is the representative of nature, while Ahab human. There are black and white people on the ship; that is about the man in society. This passage will analyze the relationship between human and nature.
Herman Melville uses many stylized languages, symbols and metaphors to state the motif of this novel. The themes of this novel are Melville’s bleak view of the world in which he lived, the alienation (man & man, man & nature, man & society), rejection and quest, God and Religion, good and evil.1
Nature plays an important role in the developing of the story. Ahab and his sailor are fishing the whale to make money as the spermaceti (鲸油)is very expensive. Sailing on the sea is a process of human working with nature. The weather will influence the direction of the ship. And whales are also part of the nature. They live
