Topic 3
A:Before we discuss the reason about air pollution,I think we should clearly know what is air pollution.Air pollution is one such form that refers to the contamination of the air, irrespec-tive of indoors or outside.A physical ,biological or chemical alte-ration to the air in the atmosphere can be termed as pollution. It occurs when any harmful gases, dust, smoke enters into the atmosphere and makes it difficult for plants, animals and hu-mans to survive as the air becomes dirty.
B:Well, very good. Now i clearly know what is air pollution. In the past few decades, science and technology is developing every day.Our earth has changed a lot.Among these changes,I think the air pollutions resulting from a huge number of automobiles is almost the severest.
C:Yes,I can’t agree with you more. With the deepening of urba-nization, more cars are needed, which will make the air pollu-tion worse. So, what can we do for this reason? What actions should be taken?
D:First, we should apply the most cutting edge technologies in order to adopt new forms of energy as substitutes for fossil fu-els. Second, try hard to develop possible transportation means which are enviromental friendly.Like bicycle, battery car and even walk.So that the citizens can reduce the dependence on cars.
A:Car is a very important reason for air pollution. What about re-duction of trees?I hold the view that tree play a key role in our air
B:Yes ,i agree with you.Forest and mankind, mankind intimate partners, is an important part of the global ecological system. If there is no forest land, the oxygen in the atmosphere will re-duce, carbon dioxide will increase. The forest is precious natural resources, is the human to pillar foundation, and was known as the "lungs of the earth. However, now in some places of our country, a number of people have been cutting down the trees in the forests because they need wood and more farmland. The areas of forests are getting smaller and smaller. Some scien-tists say that there will be no vast forests in 20 or 30 years. It is
really a terrible thing. We must do something to stop this bad thing. What can we do?
C:First, restore the farmland to the forest as fast as we can.We should let more people know the importance of protecting trees.Second, if we have to cut down the trees we should make a plan like trees are selectively cut on a 25 year rotation. What’s more, we plant trees from now on.
D:I think industrial pollution is a big reason for bad air pollu-tion.It was the industrial revolution that gave birth to environ-mental pollution as we know it today. The emergence of great factories and consumption of immense quantities of coal and other fossil fuels gave rise to unprecedented air pollution and the large volume of industrial chemical discharges added to the growing load of untreated human waste. Chicago and Cincin-nati were the first two American cities to enact laws ensuring cleaner air in 1881. Other cities followed around the country un-til early in the 20th century, when the short lived Office of Air Pollution was created under the Department of the Interior. Ex-treme smog events were experienced by the cities of Los An-geles and Donora, Pennsylvania in the late 1940s, serving as another public reminder.
C:About Industrial pollution,we must let government strengthen supervision.
