• It is like a simile, also makes a comparison between two unlike elements, but unlike a simile, this comparison is implied rather than stated.

• A simile should meet the following four basic demands: – It has the comparative words such as “like”, “as”, or “as if”, “and”, etc. – There should be two things involved in comparison -----the tenor (本体) and the vehicle (喻体); – The two things must be substantially different; – The two things should be similar in at least one quality.
