AndthatiswhyAmericawillalwaysspeakoutforthesecoreprinciples aroundtheworld.Wedonotseektoimposeanysystemofernmentonanyot hernation,butwealsodon'tbelievethattheprinciplesthatwestand forareuniquetoournation.Thesefreedomsofexpressionandworship --ofaccetoinformationandpoliticalparticipation--webelievear euniversalrights.Theyshouldbeavailabletoallpeople,including ethnicandreligiousminorities--whethertheyareintheUnitedStat
es,China,oranynation.Indeed,itisthatrespectforuniversalrigh tsthatguidesAmerica'sopenoothercountries;ourrespectfordiffe rentcultures;ourmitmenttointernationallaw;andourfaithinthef uture.
TheseareallthingsthatyoushouldknowaboutAmerica.Ialsoknowtha twehavemuchtolearnaboutChina.Lookingaroundatthismagnificent city--andlookingaroundthisroom--Idobelievethatournationshol dsomethingimportantinmon,andthatisabeliefinthefuture.Neithe rtheUnitedStatesnorChinaiscontenttorestonourachievements.Fo rwhileChinaisanancientnation,youarealsoclearlylookingaheadw ithconfidence,ambition,andamitmenttoseethattomorrow'sgenera tioncandobetterthantoday's.
Inadditiontoyourgrowingeconomy,weadmireChina'sextraordinary mitmenttoscienceandresearch--amitmentborneoutineverythingfr omtheinfrastructureyoubuildtothetechnologyyouuse.Chinaisnow theworld'slargestInteruser--whichiswhyweweresopleasedtoincl udetheInterasapartoftoday'sevent.Thiscountrynowhastheworld' slargestmobilephonework,anditisinvestinginthenewformsofener gythatcanbothsustaingrowthandbatclimatechange--andI'mlookin gforwardtodeepeningthepartnershipbetweentheUnitedStatesandC
hinainthiscriticalareatomorrow.Butaboveall,IseeChina'sfutur einyou--youngpeoplewhosetalentanddedicationanddreamswilldos omuchtohelpshapethe21stcentury.
I'vesaidmanytimesthatIbelievethatourworldisnowfundamentally interconnected.Thejobswedo,theprosperitywebuild,theenvironm entweprotect,thesecuritythatweseek--allofthesethingsareshar ed.Andgiventhatinterconnection,powerinthe21stcenturyisnolon gerazero-sumgame;onecountry'ssucceneednoteattheexpenseofano ther.AndthatiswhytheUnitedStatesinsistswedonotseektocontain China'srise.Onthecontrary,weweleChinaasastrongandprosperous andsuccessfulmemberofthemunityofnations--aChinathatdrawsont herights,strengths,andcreativityofindividualChineselikeyou.
