Task-based Language Teaching and Learning

Task-based Language Teaching and Learning

2. Willis’s Framework for TBLT
Prabhu (1987), Skehan (1996, 1998), Willis (1996), Ellis (2003) and Nunan (2004) all propose their respective frameworks. Although there is no single fixed framework and no general agreement as to whose framework is better, It is Willis’s framework for task-based teaching and learning that Chinese junior high school teachers of English are familiar with and intend to follow in their class teaching.
• Thus, Willis believes that all good language learners take full advantage of their exposure to the target language in use.
2.1.2 Use of language
• Use of language is language output, which is interdependent with input and is also generally considered essential for language development. • One big advantage of the use of language, according to Willis (1996:13), is that if learners know in class they will be expected to make real use of the target language themselves, they will pay more attention to what they hear and read and to process the input more analytically, thus noticing useful features of language. Besides, using language for real purposes (for example to get things done and share experiences with fellow students) also gives learners the opportunities to recall and use the language they have known already.
