• Precipitation
• A average tropical rainforest recieves more than 150cm of rain a year. This is almost 1/8 of an inch per day. Although the rainforest recieves large amounts of rain, not all of it makes it to the forest floor. In fact, less than 30% of the rain fall reaches the forest ground. The tropical rain forest loses 25% of incoming rainwater by evaporation, 25% of rain falls onto the leaves and 40% of it runs down the barks of tree trunks. Seasons in a tropical rainforest are not depicted by the type of weather but by the amount of rainfall. In the chart shown below, March is the most rainiest month for part of the Amazon in Manaus Brazil with about 325 mm of rainfall. (James D,Nations, 17 20 21 61)

The poison dart frog is a creature you might find cute if you found it in the wild but just touching this little guy can put you in harms way. Unlike most frogs, these species are active during the day and often exhibit brightly-colored bodies. Most species of poison dart frogs are small, sometimes less than 1.5 centimetres (0.59 in) in adult length. They weigh about 2 grams. Most poison dart frogs are brightly colored, displaying aposematic patterns to warn potential predators. Their bright coloration is associated with their toxicity and levels of alkaloids.

• Energy Flow: • The energy flow in the Amazon rainforest with sunlight and water is very different from any other biome. Because the tropical rainforest receives so much sunlight and rainfall, plants grow to be bigger, taller, and stronger than plants in any other biome. Plants becoming very large prevent most sunlight from reaching the bottom layer of the rainforest. As shown in the diagram below, 100% of the rainfall reaches the rainforest. 50% of that rainfall is consumed, 25% of it evaporates, and the other 25% of it is surface runoff. This rainfall cycle known as the water cycle continues everyday and produced rainfall and water to the plants and animals of the tropical rainforest biome.
• The climate in the Amazonian rainforest is warm and humid and the average temperature in the area is about 79 degree Fahrenheit. One of the prominent features of this area is the difference between the temperature during the day and during the night is greater than that of the difference between the seasons. The Amazon rainforest consists four layers and each layer has its unique ecosystem and plants and animals are adapted to that. The tallest layer is called the emergent layer, which has trees of approximately 200 feet in height. The other layer is canopy which has smooth oval leaves and have pointed drip tip. This makes the flow of water easy and preventing the growth of mosses and fungi. The layer below the canopy layer is able to get only 5 per cent of sunlight and plants of this layer are uniquely adapted to survive in the shadowy layer. The lowest layer is the forest floor and is almost without any plant. Only 2 per cent of sunlight reaches here.

The Amazon Rainforest covers over a billion acres, encompassing areas in Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia and the Eastern Andean region of Ecuador and Peru. If Amazonia were a country, it would be the ninth largest in the world. * The Amazon Rainforest has http://www.mindfully.org/Air/2005/Amazon-been described as the "Lungs of Rainforest-Hurricanes1oct05.htm our Planet" because it provides the essential environmental world service of continuously recycling carbon dioxide into oxygen. More than 20 percent of the world oxygen is produced in the Amazon Rainforest.
Poison dart frogs are social animals, and typically live in small groups. These groups typically consist of up to eight individuals, although captive dendrobatids can be kept in larger groups than that. These animals seem to be communal for additional protection, as well as reproductive purposes. Juveniles tend to keep to the centre of these groups, with the more toxic adults towards the edges of the groups. The members of these groups occasionally squabble over food; however they rarely inflict harm upon one another.
