This information promulgates the exemption granted by the Seafarers’ Authority
under the Merchant Shipping (Seafarers)(Medical Stores) Regulation (Cap.478X) on the
Alternative Medicines and Medical EquipmenttobekeptonboardHongKong Seagoing Ships, and Hong Kong Seagoing ShipscarryingDangerousGoods
provisions of medicines and medical equipment to kept on board Hong Kong seagoing ships
and Hong Kong seagoing ships carrying dangerous goods.

Under Section 4 of the Merchant Shipping (Seafarers) (Medical Stores) Regulation
Schedule 1 (Part 1 Scale III, Part 2 Scale III) plus Schedule 2 of the Regulation respectively.

Since the supply of certain medicines may not be easily accessible worldwide, the
alternative medicines and medical equipment as stipulated in the Annexes are carried on board.

Any enquiries relating to this note should be directed to the Mercantile Marine Office:
Section 18 of the IMDG Code, or the residues from earlier such cargoes, are required to keep on
board medicines and medical equipment listed in Schedule 1 (Part 1 Scales IA, IB) and
Director of Marine, as the Seafarers’ Authority, has pursuant to Section 3(2) of the Regulation
granted exemption from the afore-mentioned requirements, subject to the corresponding
(the Regulation), every Hong Kong seagoing ship, and every Hong Kong seagoing ship carrying
chemicals as the whole or part of its cargo in quantities in excess of those defined in Volume 1,
