世界文化的发展趋势并非是要把各国文化融为一种模式、一种超越所有民族 文化的单一文化，而是要在世界各民族文化互相交流、吸收、融合的基础上 共同创造丰富多样的世界新文化。那么，怎样才能实现这一目标呢？我想， 最重要一条就是善于学习，对于一个国家或一个民族，一个城市或任何一个 社区来说，学习是尊重文化多样性和共建和谐世界的基础。 Instead of bundling different cultures into a single model, the trend of world civilization is to create a new world culture on the basis of inter-cultural exchange. Then, how can we make it? I think, the most important way is to learn. No matter for a country or a nation, a city or any community, learning is the basic for respecting culture diversity and building a harmonious world. 一个学习型的国家应该是愿意向他国学习的国家。同时，学习型国家也应该 将其它文明中的优秀成果纳入到自身的体系，并通过创造性的转化，为丰富 人类文明和人类文明的可持续发展做出其应有的贡献。 A learning nation is willing learn from other nations. And meanwhile it combines good elements of other cultures with its own and through creative transformation, adds its contribution to the richness of human civilization and sustainable development.
就对别国文明的认识而言，学习型国家也应是追求真知的国家。要做到这一点， 应该有这样的意识，知之为知之，不知之为不知，是知也。对其它文明的误解和 曲解往往妨碍有效的文明间对话和对文化多样性的尊重。另外，学习型国家最珍 视和平，并努力为人类的共同进步而做贡献。可以说，学习型国家是最有活力的。 对学习型国家而言，宽容是一种美德，在经济全球化的时代，尊重和保护文化的 多样性是很有必要的。 As far as other civilizations are concerned, a learning nation is conceived to pursue the real knowledge. To do this, we should have true consciousness. For any false knowledge of other civilizations is a block for effective dialogue and respect of the cultural diversity. In addition, a learning nation expects peace and struggle for common development of the mankind. So we can see a learning nation is the most dynamic. Tolerance is a virtue for learning nations, and it is very necessary to respect and maintain the cultural diversity in this fast process of economic globalization. 承认、尊重世界文化的多样性，是维护世界和平与发展的保障，是人类社会不断 进步的标志；尊重和推动不同文化的借鉴、融合与发展是全人类的共同责任。 To accept, respect and maintain the diversity of world civilization is a guarantee for world peace and development, and a mark for human society’s uninterrupted progress; to respect and promote the interaction, harmony and development between cultures is the common obligation of humanity.

During the three days meeting, we will discuss protecting culture diversity and building harmonious world. It is the best choice of time and place. Respecting the world cultural diversity is the agreement by human being’s long thinking and practice.
