一．根据定义法找词义：

提示词为is/ are called…, is the name of…, that is…, refers to…, is referred to as…, denotes…, 定语从句，同位语从句等，可根据其后面的已知信息来推断前面生词的词义。

1.The biosphere is the name biologists give to the sort of skin (外壳) on the

surface of the earth that is inhabitable by living organisms concurrently.

2. Drunken driving refers to/ donates a kind of driving in which the driver has

a rather vague consciousness because of excessive drinking of alcohol.

3.My student found the book enlightening, providing them with an

abundance of information on the subject.

二．根据重述（扩展）法找词义：

提示词为that is…, or…, put in another way…, ---- , “”, ( ) , : , 等标点符号，或简单的词予以说明。

1．There was obvious animosity between Tom and Tim----they glared at each other and refused to stay in the same room.

( space, coldness, ill will, good turn )

2.Imagine my chagrin when I looked in the mirror right after giving a lecture

to a large audience--- and discovered some blueberry jam on my chin.

三．根据词的多意性来判断生词义

1. Daylight saving time system was instituted to increase production.

2. A review of the literature indicates which characteristics were likely to be

relevant to academic success.

3. Such rude behavior can only reflect criticism upon you.

四．根据句中所提供的同义词或反义词来判断答案：

1．Bob and Rose were as different as day and night; he was taciturn but she was talkative.

五．根据习惯性表达来选答案：

五．根据句中提供的举例或类比来判断答案：

提示词为for example , for instance , such as , a case in point is…,like., eg. 等。

1．Electricity was sent to houses and factories through wires, but it can’t be sent very long due to the leakage. Insulators , especially rubber, wood, glass, are used to help prevent this leakage of electricity.

2. He is really a benevolent person, for example, he often helps others and

gives money to needed people.
