OK,I’ll introduce the author to you.Do you know him? Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Some of you are shaking your heads.Maybe he is better known by his pen name Mark Twain.
I believe everyone must, more or less, know about him. Mark Twain is a great literary giant of America. You must have read some of his famous books.
Then I will talk about his life.
Mark Twain was born in eighteen thirty-five. He grew up in Hannibal, Missouri on the Mississippi River. After his father died when he was twelve years old, he went to work as an assistant to a publisher. Ten years later, he became a pilot on a steamboat that sailed on the Mississippi. He heard the riverboat workers call out the words "mark twain!"? That was a measure for the depth of water.
Later, he wrote funny stories and called himself Mark Twain. At the age of 30,he became famous for his story, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County". During the eighteen eighties, he wrote books for children
Mark twain’s major works.
"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" is considered one of the best books about an American boy’s life in the eighteen hundreds.
And its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was called "The Great American Novel".It tells about the social evil of slavery, seen through the eyes of an innocent child.
He is a representative of the American critical realism literature. He uncovered some of the profound social problems in the works. He shaped the world’s view of America and had a huge impact on the development of American writing.
