Qu was a minister of the State of Chu, during theWarring States Period(475-221BC) （战国时期）. Qu grabbed a large stone and leapt into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth month. The people of Chu who mourned the death of Qu threw rice into the river to feed his ghost every year on the fifth day of the fifth month. 屈原是战国时期楚国的大夫，他抱着石头跳入了 汨罗江而死。人们在每年的农历五月初五，屈原 的祭日,将米饭扔到河里祭祀鬼神以纪念屈原。
