MICHAEL Jordan (迈克尔. 乔丹)is best known for his "air walk" but it was Beijing students who were flying high when the American basketball legend (传奇人物) visited the capital last week.
The former NBA star attended the final of the 2004 China High School Basketball
League at Beijing Workers' Gymnasium (北京工人体育馆) on Thursday. Presenting the trophy to the winners, he gave the youngsters some simple advice: "Love the game, enjoy the game, and play the game."

Shenyang No 31 Middle School tasted victory in
the tournament (锦标赛)last year But this
year's 62-54 victory over Shanghai
Nanyang Model Middle School had an added sweetness: the players received the champion's cup from Jordan himself.
"I was very excited taking the trophy (奖杯)from him," said Li Yuzhang, who
won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. "I'm lucky to have been able to hold the cup after it was touched by Jordan."
Another player said: "We have been waiting for this day for almost a month. We trained very hard because we knew we would get to celebrate our victory with Michael Jordan."
With cameras flashing around them, the players couldn't hide their excitement as they stepped onto the podium (领奖台)alongside their hero. Li and team captain Feng Wenxu were also lucky enough to have Jordan sign their jerseys (运动衫).
"I will keep this precious jersey for the rest of my life," said Feng.
The 5,000-strong audience of young students was also stirred up (鼓动) by the appearance of one of basketball's greatest-ever players. Play was even delayed a little while, such was the excitement when he arrived during the fourth quarter of the match.

Future of football is found in Africa

(扎伊尔), the African representative (代表) in that year's World Cup, was beaten 8-0 by Yugoslavia (南斯拉夫). Some of the Zaire players also didn't seem to fully understand the rules.
Since then, Africa has worked hard to learn the game and some teams have started making waves on the international scene with some skilful, fast and powerful play. Cameroon (喀麦隆), the African Lions, reached the quarter-finals of the 1990 World Cup in Italy and won gold at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
Like many African sides, Cameroon's style of play focuses mostly on speed and individual talents. The passing is short rather than long, and there is more dribbling (带球). As the weather is usually hot, the game is also often played at a slower pace than it is in Europe.
However , teams still lack tactical (战术的) knowledge and experience, and this can cost them at the highest level of play.
There is also the problem of poor organization. At a recent African Nations Cup, the Nigerian (尼日利亚) side found themselves locked out of their hotel rooms because their bills had not been paid. Cameroon's players came home from the 1990 World Cup to discover that US$600,000 of their winnings had disappeared.
The wealth gap between Africa and Europe means that, for many years to come, the top African players will earn their living with European clubs.
Senegal (塞内加尔) famously beat France in the opening match of the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, and went on to the quarter-finals. But every Senegalese player was with a club in the French league.

The ISS: a flying city in the sky
(国际空间站——一座漂浮在浩渺太空的人类新 "城市" !)
If you watch the sky about an hour after the sun goes down, you may see some "moving
stars." But they're not really stars. They're satellites . And the biggest of all is the International Space Station (ISS, 国际空间站 ).
From now until July is the best season to watch the ISS flying over the Earth. scientists want to live on it. They think that the best way to learn more about space is to live there.
And people can see it with just their
eyes.
When the space station is finished, it will be like a city in space. People will stay and study there with many of the things they have at home. Laboratories, living rooms and power stations (发电站) are being built. The ISS is the most ambitious
(雄
心勃勃的) and expensive space program ever . Billions of dollars are being spent on it every year .
Scientists hope that the ISS will be a stepping stone (跳板) for future space exploration (探索).
"The ISS will help us better understand the human body, explore space and study the Earth. It can help us make life on Earth better ," said Kathryn Clark, an ISS scientist.
Sixteen countries are part of the program: the US, Russia, Canada, Japan, Brazil (巴西)and 11 European countries.
China is not an ISS country, but it has helped with some of the experiments. In 2003, China sent some rice up to the ISS to find out what space would do to it.
The ISS is not finished yet. More than 100 parts must still be put on. Scientists hope it will be finished by 2006.
After it's finished, more than 90 per cent of the world's population (人口) will be able to see the Space Station. So keep looking up, and maybe you'll see it get bigger .。
