What is personal space?
• “Imaginary bubble” that surrounds a person which allows them to feel comfortable or uncomfortable.
• Personal space is our “individual boundary or territory.” Moving into someone's personal space can be viewed as a violation.

About Time magazine

• The first two paragraphs tell us about the author's experience of how personal space was invaded and how his individual border was intruded on.
❖ The author related his experience with a series of verb phrases and adverbials, such as "inching toward', "minutely advanced toward', "in mild annoyance, began to sidle up to", "absentmindedly shuffled toward", which vividly described the process in which the people in line, though reluctant, had to give away their personal space to the invaders until they became hugger-mugger against each other.
• Elevators, buses, theaters, and many other similar “shared places” tend to reduce personal space. People who routinely find themselves in such situations tend to have smaller personal space and more tolerance for “space invasion” than those who are unused to crowding.
