3.3 Roman Catholic church--the largest single Christian church.

Although the largest church is of the Protestant faith, the largest single religions group is that of Roman Catholic church. Roman catholic believers represent 26.2%of the U.S. population and the 4 largest protestant groups in all represent 31.9% of the total American population. So the Roman Catholic church is the largest single Christian church.

Methodism is a Protestant denomination that emerged in England out of teachings of John Wesley. Wesley was an ordained(任命的) Anglican priest who joined a student bible study group known as Methodists. In 1738 he had a decisive spiritual experience that convinced him that Salvation, the new bit, could be attained by faith alone. Then he began to serve America. In 1784, Wesley and his followers broke away from the Anglican Church and establish their own church. In theory, Wesley rejected Calvinistic notion of predestination. Instead he stressed the cooperative role tht individual played with God in attaining salvation.

It is very interesting phenomenon that in such a modernized America, more than 90% of total population say that they believe one religion. Actually, we can say such a modern, advanced society is also a highly religious one! President speech: God bless you and America. the United States has a greater number of religious groups than any other country in the world.
