is a tragic work which was written by a famous British writer named Tomas Hardy. The novel described a pure kind beautiful country character, Tess, who had experienced several ups and downs. Being in a poor family, she was persuaded to work in d’Urbervilles’home. Unfortunately, she was seduced by a gentleman—Alec. This was just the beginning. Why did she have to meet the wrong man, and one who was so strongly attracted to her? While to the right man, she was only half-forgotten impression from an evening’s dancing in a country field. In life, the right man to love hardly ever comes at the right time for loving.

With extreme anguish, she returned home. From then on her life totally changed from this loss of innocent. People looked down upon her and often talked about her in private. Actually she did nothing wrong because she knew nothing about man before she was seduced. She was just a girl when she first met that evil man. People who lived in the country and were close to nature, like Tess, keep many of the pagan ideas of their ancestors in their souls. Religion learned in church came much later and did not touch them deeply. Tess wanted to make her way independently in life.

Soon after getting back home she gave birth to her child. Unfortunately again, her little baby died of illness before long. She was

stroke again. In order to get rid of her shadow, she determined to go to a milk factory miles away from her home as a milking worker and hopefully lived a complete new life. She didn’t mean to tell anyone what she had suffered before until she met Angel.

Angel was into Tess at the first sight and showed his strong love to Tess and made a proposal to her several times while she refused him without saying any reasons. She said she loved him deeply and perhaps no one in the world could love him more than she did but she could n’t marry him for some unspoken reason. Angel wasn’t satisfied with this vague answer and did his best to win Tess. Finally she agreed to marry him and they soon fixed the wedding day. Soon after their wedding Angel confessed the crime he committed to a woman long time ago and asked for Tess’s forgiveness. Tess was not at all angry and forgave Angel at once. In fact she was rather happy and excited for she also had things to confess. She sat and told everything to Angel, hoping he would forgive her as he was forgiven but she was wrong. She wasn’t forgiven, not as she thought she was.

Her husband Angel eventually left. Without Angel’s love, life was harder for such an effeminate woman but she still loved Angel. During Angel’s absence, Tess came across Alec, the evil man who had destroyed Tess. He tempted her to be his wife ignoring that she got married again and again. Alec had always told Tess that Angel would never come back
