Each morning. I walked past a guard, He greeted(问候)everyone that walked by him. I admired how he knew so many people by their first name.The first few times I saw him, I didn’t say hello back to him when he greeted me. I was lost in my own world. One Monday he asked, “How was your weekend?” I told him about my visit to my sick, elderly mother. “The time I spend with my mother is so valuable, because I know that each time could be the last.” He told me how sorry he was for my mother’s sickness. He shared how sadly he lost a parent because of illness. “ I understand what you are going through. My father passed away years ago. I think about him every day.” As I walked away, I realized I did not even know his name.

The following day, I asked about his name, “Gary.” After that, we talked a couple of times a week. We shared stories about our weekend, our dreams, and our families. Gary got offered a new job and moved away. It’s been years since I last spoke to him, but it seems like just yesterday we talked. I look back at what became a friendship of sharing stories from the heart. When you say hello to a stranger you become a pebble(鹅卵石)in the pool. With each ripple(涟漪)you create, you spread love. Make a point of saying hello to a stranger today, you will give the gift
