西方翻译简史

After reading the book a short history of translation in the west, what i think about is that how can i define the word translation and what the answers the book can reveal to me.
On the one hand , i think translation is a systematic subject that deals with two languages or even more, among which are the target language and the source language, so as to communicate between different speech communities. The author of a short history of translation in the west focuses on the history of translation to tell us what is translation and focuses on some basic historic events and prestigious translators apart from their theories.
On the other hand, this book show us a vivid picture of the history of translation in the west. Firstly, it provide us many detailed information about the translators and their theories,the trend of translation and a general look-back about some historic events in different periods. It talks about some basic problems as the principles of translation,the clarification and the skills used in one's process of translation. Furthermore, it also show us the development of translation in the future.
Secondly,the clarification of the history in the west is always being discussed and it is disputable about how to clarify the history more clearly. But now a popular way is to divide it into the literal,linguistic,communicationative and symbolic section. Thus we can p reveal the influence of history factors on translation. And it also show us the integration and disintegration of translation work.
Thirdly, through this book i know that the most productive period in the history in the west is the post-war period. And also i learned that if you want to have a insight into the history of translation, you should consider the influence of the social customs, dialects and the social relationships and so on.。
