On a bright, warm July afternoon, Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends. One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on, and they would catch up with him soon. As Mac pedaled (骑行)along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home. He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday.

Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. “Man, that’s a big dog!” he thought. But when he looked to the side, he saw instantly that it wasn’t a dog at all, but a wolf, quickly catching up with him.

Mac’s heart jumped. He found out his can of bear spray. With one hand on the bars, he fired the spray at the wol f. A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac’s relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac’s bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second time, and again, it fell back only to quickly restart the chase(追赶).

Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down. He was a steep uphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the hill, he’d be easy caught up and the wolf’s teeth would be tearing into his flesh.

At this moment, Paul and Beeky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn’t think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road. A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a large vehicle behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now.

Last Sunday afternoon, Sandra and I were eager to meet up with a man on Detroit’s east side to help him get ready for a job interview this week. But on the way, we spotted a dog lying near the road next to his owner. We thought he’d been hit by a car. My friend, Sandra Abrahamian, and I had assisted animal rescue groups before and we thought there might be something we could do, so we quickly pulled over to help.

His owner, a woman told us the dog’s name is Bosco, and she was walking him over a mile in the heat to her new home. She said Bosco was an outside dog and no one would give him a ride to her new place. That’s when she and a friend decided to walk the entire way. He was going from a

life on a chain in one backyard to another. She said Bosco was having trouble breathing along the way, but they thought he could make it. But just a block away from their destination, Bosco fell down. We could tell he was suffering from heatstroke(中暑). She told us he had thrown up and could no longer stand. Bosco was out of breath quickly; his drool(口水)was also thick. Bosco’s owner said she wanted to give him away because she didn’t have time for him. She said he would never be allowed into her new “home”because her children have allergies(过敏症)and she worried he would dirty the carpet.

I made a call to Kristina Rinaldi of Detroit Dog Rescue to ask if they could help Bosco because it was clear that he was going to die without emergency care. To our happiness, Rinaldi said they could help. At once she told the people at Oakland Veterinary Referral Services that a dog which needed critical care was being rushed in and they must be ready to try their best to save him.

Paragraph 1:

Sandra drove while I stayed in the back seat trying to comfort Bosco. I thought we lost him a couple of times when he was seemingly out of breath and his eyes seemed to close. By the time we arrived, Bosco was wheeled into the animal care center to receive emergency care. Bosco was put on oxygen and was taken good care of by staff there and we waited anxiously for the dog to get out of danger. Rinaldi said another dog in Detroit Dog Rescue had already been named Bosco, and she wanted this new member to have a new name for his new life.

Paragraph 2:

So Bosco is now being called Roscoe, whose critical care and recovery were estimated to be several thousand dollars. It would be difficult for Roscoe’s new home to cover the costs as a non-profit organization. Thankfully, many people who knew Roscoe’s st ory on Detroit Dog Rescue’s Facebook page donated money to his care. With the help of supporters, Detroit Dog Rescue managed to make it. Once Roscoe was in a stable state, Sandra and I returned to our original mission, knowing we had already been given the chance to help one desperate soul.

When I saw her tonight she smiled and recognized me. I smiled back at her. She was looking more relaxed even though she was still busy doing her job. I have noticed her several times this last few months and she always looks so much happier now. Tonight when I talked with her I noticed her name tag. Her name is Pamela.

Pamela works at the express checkouts in a busy supermarket. She deals with problems when the self-service checkout experiences a problem (no price on product, machine problems, etc.). She monitors these checkouts and usually has hardly dealt with one complaint before another is created.

When I first talked to Pamela, I had called her to the checkout I was using. There wasn’t any problem with the checkout though. My problem or should I say concern was about Pamela. She looked tired and was under a lot of stress as she quickly moved from one checkout to the next. It’s a bit of a fire-fighting job.

I told Pamela that she needed to slow down. I told her she wasn’t ge tting paid enough to be working as hard as she was working. I told her that we, the customers, could wait and it was very bad for her health to be putting herself under such pressure. I told her that our expectations were not as hard as the ones she set for herself. Pamela told me she would slow down. I could tell she

was touched that not only did I notice her stress but I chose to talk to her about it and was concerned for her health. I gently told her things had to change. I told her I would be looking out for her in future to see if she had taken my advice on board. She smiled and said, “I promise that I will next time.”

Paragraph 1:

When I saw her, she was still doing her job but there was such a difference. I praised the new her. Now Pamela said that other customers would have to wait for their turn while she dealt with another customer. She told me the change had significantly improved her health. She added that she’s also shared what I said with her colleagues. As I walked away from Pamela my heart was lightened. She has taken my advice on board and tried to slow down her working pace. A day’s work means just that. It doesn’t mean that one should put two days’ work into one day. Paragraph 2:

I am proud of myself. Not only have I caused Pamela to reflect on the pressure she was putting herself under, but also she in turn has encouraged her colleagues in the supermarket to do the same. I really feel very happy and satisfied for my concern and act of kindness do make a

difference to those in need. It’s just a simple act of love that costs no money. So my friends, our kindness doesn’t have to be material, but just loving. Bless you all for all you do for others.

It’s not easy to die when you are only fifteen. Those were the words that began the story I heard from Robert White, a North Carolina factory worker. He and his wife were visiting their daughter Lee in the hospital as they did every evening.

She knew she had an illness that would not spare her. She suffered a lot but never complained. She had already accepted her great journey into the unknown. This particular evening, she suddenly said, “I always dreamed of working in a big ocean park with dolphins. I’ve loved them since I was little. I still dream of swimming with them, free and happy in the open sea.”

She’d never asked for anything, but she said with all the strength she had, “Daddy, I want to swim in the open sea among the dolphins just once. Maybe then I wouldn’t be so scared of dying.” It seemed like an impossible dream, but she hung on to it.

Robert and his family talked it over and decided to do everything they could. They phoned a research center in the Florida Keys. “Come at once,” they said.

W hen they arrived in Grassy Key, Lee didn’t want to rest for a minute and begged her parents to take her to the dolphins. Robert took her out toward the dolphins, Nat and Tursi, who were playing about thirty feet away from them. At first, they seemed distracted and uninterested, but when Lee called them softly by name, they responded without hesitation. Nat came over first, raised his head and gave her a kiss on the end of her nose. Then Tursi came over happily. A second later they picked her up with their mighty fins(鳍)and carried her out to sea with them. “It feels like I’m flying!” cried Lee, laughing with delight.

Lee’s family hadn’t heard her laugh like that since she became ill. The dolphins stayed with Lee for more than an hour, always tender, always attentive, and always responsive to her wishes.

Paragraph 1:

Maybe it’s true that they are more intelligent and sensitive creatures than man. Those amazing dolphins understood that Lee was dying and wanted to comfort her as she faced her great journey into the unknown. From the moment when the dolphins approached her, greeting her with a kiss, they never left her alone for a second. They swam with her and played with her. In their company, Lee found again the enthusiasm and the will to live. When she got out of the water, it was as if she had been reborn.

Paragraph 2:

The next day she was too weak to get out of bed, but she whispered to her father.“Daddy, don’t be sad for me. I will never be afraid again. It is not easy to face death alone when I am only fifteen, but the dolphins have made me understand that I have nothing to be scared of.” She had no strength to talk more. Just before dawn, Robert’s little girl died in his arms, leaving great sorrow for her family.

A few years ago, I worked in an international company that sold computer devices. I had to travel a lot over the country as a part of my work. I remember that I was at a stage of my life where I only cared about how to make more money.

On one of my trips, I came to the airport to take a bus to downtown, as usual. It was the same routine: get into the city, take the bus to the hotel, visit the customer, work late, take the bus back to the airport and fly back…That day, for some reasons, I decided to take the stairs down to a

different exit, where I came across a beautiful garden I had never seen before. I waited there, enjoying the scenery. Finally the bus came.

Usually I always took the seat behind the driver. That day I sat down somewhere in the middle. A boy was seated next to me, carrying a lot of suitcases. Suddenly, he turned to me and gave me one of the most sincere smiles I had ever seen from a stranger. Warmly, he said, “hi, the perfect day in the perfect place, huh?”

I remember thinking to myself — this must be one of those typical people who is young and naive and just thinks everything is beautiful and easy. Why was he annoying me when I just wanted to enjoy the bus ride? But out of politeness, I replied, “Perfect! Did your parents pay for you to have some vacations on the beach?”“No, I’m not here for vacation, an d I don’t have parents,” He shook his head, “I’m here because I want to achieve my biggest dream. I’m on the way to the army school where my grandfather studied a long time ago.”

“I lost my dad 10 years ago then my mom married again. My stepfather threw me out of the house. Since then, I’ve been living all over the country. I’ve met many people who were kind to me. And I’ve learnt a lot from life through these years,” he said softly. At that point I couldn’t say a word. I felt the tears coming. Fortunately, he continued talking.

He smiled and told me that for 10 years, he had only one thing on his mind to join the army school like his grandfather. “My grandpa was a general of the army. He left me this,” he said proudly. He showed me a golden knife and said this was the best memory of his childhood. “The

only thing I know is that I will fo llow my dream and every day I will be happy.” Soon, the bus reached his stop, he stood up, took all his suitcases, and said goodbye with a big smile. From that day on, I always try to do everything with my best smile on my face.

On a cold windy day, a poor boy tried to pay his way through school by selling goods door to door. Wandering on the street, he was not a successful seller. What’s worse, he found that he only had one dime(一角硬币)left. His empty stomach reminded him constantly that for days he hadn’t eaten anything. He had no choice but to beg for a meal at the next house. Hesitantly he knocked at door, thinking about what to say when it opened. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. “What can I do for you?” asked the young woman. The boy paused for a while “Would you please give me some … a drink of water?” the boy dare not to look directly into her eyes. She looked at the bony boy and thought he might need something to give him energy so she brought him a glass of milk. His head rising and small hands taking the cup, he drank it up slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”“You don’t owe me anything,” she replied with a warm smile on her fa ce. “My mother has taught me never to accept pay for a kindness.” Deeply moved, he said sincerely, “Then I shall thank you from the bottom of my heart.”As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but it also increased his faith in God and the whole human race. As a matter of fact, he was about to give up and quit before that point.

Years later the young woman became critically ill. However, the local doctors were unable to give the effective medical treatment. Finally they sent her to a hospital in the big city, where specialists can be called in to cure her rare disease. Among those famous specialists, Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. Once, when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter.

This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. You could tell they didn’t have a lot of money.

Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly jabbering about the clowns, elephants, and other acts they would see that night.

One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be a highlight of their young lives. The father and mother were at the head of the pack, standing proud as could be.

The mother was holding her husband’s hand, looking up at him as if to say, “You’re my knight in shining armor.” He was smiling and basking in pride, looking back at her as if to reply, “You got that right.”

The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, “Please let me buy eight children’s tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus.” The ticket lady quoted the price. The man’s wife let go of his hand, her head dropped, and his lip began to shake. The father leaned a little closer and asked, “How much did you say?” The ticket lady again quoted the price. The man didn’t have enough money.

How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight children that he didn’t have enough money to take them to the circus?

Actually we were not wealthy in any sense. So I understand how the kids would feel. I feel sorry for them.

We didn’t go to the circus that night, when I asked dad why he did so, Dad said, “My child, it was a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation for a father. Surely he wasn’t begging for a hand out, but he reminded me of my father, when I was young.” He paused for a while as if wandering in his memory. “We should appreciate what we have obtained from life and seize every opportunity to he lp others. It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, carrier, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit(追寻)of the dreams. There, in the rush of his busy life. Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.

Over the phone, his mother told him, “Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral(葬礼)is Wednesday.” Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel(新闻短片)as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

“Jack, did you hear me?”

“Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It’s been so long since I thought of him. I’m sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago,” Jack said.

“Well, he didn’t forget you. Every time I saw him he’d ask how you were doing. He’d reminisce(回忆)about the many days you spent over ‘his side of the fence’ as he put it,” Mom told him.

“I loved that old house he lived in,” Jack said.

“You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man’s influence in your life,” she said.

“He’s the one who taught me carpentry. I wouldn’t be in this business if it weren’t for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things that he thought were important Mom, I’ll be there for the funeral.” Jack said.

Busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser’s funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.

The night before he had to return home. Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time, which was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture Jack stopped suddenly.

“What’s wrong, Jack?” his Mom a sked.

“The box is gone,” he said.

“What box?” Mom asked.

“There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he’d ever tell me was ‘the thing I value most’,” Jack said.

It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.

“Now I’ll never know what was so valuable to him,” Jack said sadly.

The tragedy happened in the year 1933. I was only 6 years old when I was rushed to the hospital with two crushed feet. My parents were told I might never walk again. The accident happened when I was sitting in front of our house in Lowell,Massachusetts. I was playing in a puddle(水坑) after a rainstorm and suddenly felt a huge weight on my feet. When I looked up, there was a car tire on them. I cried out,but the motor was running and no one could hear me over the engine. The driver had run across the street for a newspaper. When he got back tohis car, he drove away—never knowing he had parked on my feet. Just about then, our neighbor’s son came home and saw me bent over my feetin pain. He immediately carried me home, and I remember thinking how tall andstrong he was. An ambulance came, and I remained in the hospital for 3 weeks while my feet were “repaired”. When I returned home, I could hardly walk. I sat in our bay window and watched the children play on the street and longed to join them…but I couldn’t. I felt so left out despite my parents’ company. My parents were told that if I was ever to walk again, I’d need treatment, which in those days meant riding a tricycle(三轮车)to strengthen the muscle and eventually get my feet back into condition for walking. Our family couldn’t afford such an extravagance(奢侈品). Times were tough during the Depression, and there were five mouths tofeed, besides buying coal and wood for the stove.

2022届高考英语读后续写精选四篇(含范文) 第一篇(2022·惠州高三第一次调研)In our kitchen, there was a wooden table and three chairs —one for Dad, one for Mom, and one for me. In the cellar (地窖), the very last jar of apple jam lay quietly on the shelf, waiting to be turned into an apple pie when Dad came back. Mom sat at one end of the table. I sat in the middle between her and Dad. I tried not to look at Dad's empty place. Dad had gone to the city to look for work for a long time. Every night, I lay awake in bed and waited for the train to stop. I waited to hear the creaky (嘎吱作响的) sound of the gate Dad was going to fix when he came home. I waited to hear the sound of his work boots dropping on the step by the kitchen door, and his voice calling, “I'm home!” Every night, as I lay there, I stared at the window and the curtains made of empty flour sacks (麻袋) by Mom. Every night, Mom came to kiss me goodnight—after the train had gone by. She was listening, too. “Go to sleep. Your dad wi ll be home soon. Maybe for the holiday.” Time dragging by, finally came the day before the holiday. I went to sleep with the sound of train wheels in my head, whispering, “Maybe tomorrow, maybe tomorrow.” Early the next morning, the smell of coffee woke me. I ran into the kitchen. There he was! Dad lifted me onto his shoulders and pretended to stagger from my weight. “How's my boy? You've gotten so big that I can barely lift you up any more.” He put me down, and I stared at the two sacks on the table. One said FLOUR—I knew that word. I tried reading the other: S-U-G-A-R. Dad whistled admiringly and winked at me. Mom and I had been practicing my letters most days. I could see that Mom was pleased with me. “I'm going to bake a pie for your Dad's homecoming dinner. Jimmy, bring me that jar of apple jam from the shelf in the cellar,”Mom smiled at me. 注意:续写词数应为150左右。 Hearingthis, Itookthestepst w oatatimetothecellar.____________________________________________________ _________ “Ne v ermind, boy, accidentshappen,”Dadsaidand w ipedmytears.___________________________________________________________ __

1. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。 On a bright, warm July afternoon, Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 续写部分分为两段,每段开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph 1: The car abruptly stopped in front of him. __________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________

He would tell me that he was already seventeen, but still had a curfew (宵禁),He believed he was practically an adult. I pointed out that he was not an adult as he was still in high school. “You don't trust me!” he yelled. Before I continued, he rolled his eyes, slammed the door and walked away. I sighed. How could I make Jordan see that I only wanted to keep him safe? I decided to go for a walk, hoping the December air would clear my head. I opened the front door and nearly stepped on her: a small black cat, just like a meatball. “Hi, Meatball," I said, bringing her int o my arms. I walked back in, touching her neck gently. Meatball seemed happy enough to come in the house, but after an hour or two, she sat by the door, meowing to go back outside. “Why won't she just stay in with us all the time?” Nathan, my youngest son asked. I explained to him that she was happy here but she liked being able to come and go as she pleased. “That must be nice,” Jordan muttered from the other room, complaining why the cat, not him, could come and go. He even asked me to give Meatball a curfew. Meatball became a regular. One night, temperatures were unusually low. Meatball stood at the door, meowing to go outside. I shook my head at her, afraid that she might freeze to death. She stared at me and meowed again. I patted her head, “I know you're not happy, but it's for your own good.” “Mom's not being mean to you,” Nathan told the cat. “She's just trying to keep you from turning into a frozen meatball.”We both laughed at his joke. The next morning, I couldn't find Meatball. I asked the kids if anyone had seen her.注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Jordan nodded,“I let her out last night.” As I drove to the animal hospital, Jordan sat in the back, holding Meatball inside his coat. 话题:亲子关系 主要内容:文章讲述了作者的儿子抱怨作者不让他晚上外出,但是在通过猫被夜里放出而差点被东死的事情后,他儿子终于明白作者不让他出去是为了他的安全着想。

That is, not until Christmas Eve of 1979, when an angel brought unexpected joy to my home. After divorce, my two daughters not only lost the security of a whole family, they also tearfully left behind neighborhood friends, a familiar school, and a large house. These had all been replaced with a narrow two-bedroom apartment in a poorer part of town. I arranged to take my vocat ion during my children’s winter school holiday. We spent evenings planning activities: cookie baking, games, a pizza night, and evening car rides to view neighborhood holiday lights. With expectation, they seemed to be in good spirits. The week before the school break, however, terrible news of family disasters arrived. By Christmas Eve, gloom clouded our vacation plans. An afternoon outing for movie did little to improve our mood. On returning to our apartment, we were astonished to see a beautiful, six-foot Christmas tree propped(支撑) against our front door. In silent wonder, we looked back and forth, from the tree to one another and around the empty street. Excitement built, and the girls begged to keep the tree. “Maybe it’s for us,” insisted my older daug hter. 第1页/共3页

In fact, I found it in my grandmother's attic. Grams didn't object, and so the suitcase came to live beneath my bed. I didn't use the old suitcase before that day. It was a cloudy fall morning in our North Carolina town, and a fine mist wet the fallen leaves. I was angry. My mother had slighted me somehow, though now I have no idea what stirred up my anger. I was upset, and I wanted to make her pay. I wanted to give her a taste of what life would be like without me. I would run away. “Goodbye, Mom.” I stood outside the kitchen door, suitcase grabbed firmly in hand. I wore my red overcoat and gray ski cap, looking the part. “Goodbye, Mom,” I repeated twice more to make sure she'd heard. At last, Mom appeared, wiping her hands on a dish towel. She looked at me quickly. I lifted the suitcase a little just to make sure she didn't miss it. “I'm leaving,” I said. I'd rehearsed for the expected reaction. The plan was to let her feel guilty and beg for a minute or two and then I would give in after I was sure of her regret. “Did you pack a lunch?” Mom's question knocked me off balance. Where were the tears? The begging? "I'm leaving," I said. "I'm running away. For... ever." I repeated, sure it would change her mind. Instead, she smiled. “Well, would you like me to fix you something? A sandwich? A bag of chips?
