The University of Michigan was founded in 1817, was one of America's oldest university, was renowned in the world. Since its establishment, University of Michigan has both remarkable achievements and enormous influences in the various disciplines, known as the "public Ivy", praised as "a model for public universities."

In the early years of development, University of Michigan freed from the traditional "classical" teaching philosophy at the British style University, and learnt wildly from other's strong points,introduced the essence of the French and German educational philosophy, and integrated with British classical concept, which made the University of Michigan onto the status of a first-class university. In a subsequent development, UM has grown, perhaps to wipe out a humiliation, perhaps in order to give a better guarantee for the campus integrity.
