Funding
• WFP operations are funded by voluntary donations from world governments, corporations and private donors. The organization's administrative costs are only seven percent—one of the lowest and best among aid agencies. In 2011, WFP's total revenue was $3.73 billion. From 2008-2012, private donors donated around $500 million.

By then, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) will be added to the call for the public to experience hunger charity activities, to improve everyone's understanding of the problem of hunger, and thus put into action, work together to address the Zero Hunger Challenge.

What is WFP?
• WFP: Who We Are, What We Do
• It is the food assistance branch of the United Nations, and it is the world's largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger.WFP provides food, on average, to 90 million people per year, 58 million of whom are children.From its headquarters in Rome and more than 80 country offices around the world, WFP works to help people who are unable to produce or obtain enough food for themselves and their families. It is a member of the United Nations Development Group and part of its Executive Committee.

Goals
• WFP strives to eradicate hunger and mal源自文库utrition, with the ultimate goal in mind of eliminating the need for food aid itself.
• Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million children each year.
• WFP calculates that US$3.2 billion is needed per year to reach all 66 million hungry schoolage children.
Hunger Statistics
• 842 million people in the world do not have enough to eat. This number has fallen by 156 million since 1990.
• The vast majority of hungry people (827 million) live in developing countries, where 14.3 percent of the population is undernourished.
• Asia has the largest share of the world's hungry people (some 552 million) but the trend is downward.
• If women farmers had the same access to resources as men, the number of hungry in the world could be reduced by up to 150 million.

Organization
• The WFP is governed by an Executive Board which consists of representatives from 36 member states. Ertharin Cousin is the current Executive Director, appointed jointly by the UN Secretary General and the Director-General of the FAO for a five-year term. She heads the Secretariat of WFP. • The European Union is a permanent observer in the WFP and, as a major donor, participates in the work of its Executive Board. • WFP has a staff of 11,799 people (2011) with 90% operating in the field.
