Drills and Guidance to Techniques of Listening Test --- Numbers

I. Objectives:

After this lesson, students will be able to understand and use the basic techniques of extracting specific information to tell or calculate numbers in the listening tests. II. Key and difficult points:

Taking notes and calculating about numbers in different contexts.

III. Teaching and Learning methods:

task-based; situation-based; activity-based method

IV. Teaching aids:

Multi-media computer, the blackboard

V. Teaching procedures:

1.Let students get familiar with the learning aims of this period.

2.Let students enjoy the song “Eversleeping”and try to complete the lyrics

using numbers to lead in the lesson.

3.Let students talk something about how numbers are used in our daily life

freely.

Ask students to look at the words on the screen and try to read them out in English.

Activity 1: All the students in each group can stand up and seize the chance to read the numbers.

1.Show students a table about the Listening Test about Numbers in the

National Matriculation English Test(NMET) in recent years. Then explain to students the common question-forms and guidance to this kind of tests.

2.Listen to the short dialogues and find out the right answers.

Activity 2: First, all the students listen to the short dialogues one by one carefully; then they can volunteer to answer the questions and try to give the clues that help them decide the answer.

3. Summarize the listening skills together with the students.

1.Ask students to work in groups to make up a dialogue that has something to

do with numbers. (Group Work)

Activity 3: Students work in groups to make up a dialogue, prepare a question for others to answer and practice the dialogue. Later, several groups will be chosen to act in front of the class. The other groups have to listen and answer their questions.

2. Ask several groups to present their dialogues.

3. Let students finish the self-assessment in students’ learning plan.
