顺昌地处福建西北，武夷山脉南麓，闽江上游金溪、富屯溪交汇处，辖7镇4乡1街道，130个建制村，13个居委会，土地面积1985平方公里，在籍人口24.2万人。于后唐长兴四年(公元933年)建县，“以其初顺服故名，取顺而昌之意”。

Located in the Northwest of Fujian Province, Shunchang (26°38'--27°121'N 117'29'-118°14'E) lies in the south of Wuyi Mountains. Jinxi River and Futunxi River, which are the two main branches of Min River in its upstream, meet at Shunchang.The jurisdiction of Shunchang covers one subdistrict,Shuanxi, seven towns including Jianxi, Yangkou, Yuankeng, Bushang, Dali, Dagan, and Renshou and four rural townships including Yangdun, Zhengfang, Lanxia, and Gaoyang. Shunchang has an area of 1,985km2 and a total population of 242 thousand. The county's name that means obedience and flourish, was established in 933, during the Later Tang Dynasty(923-937).
