1．分类(包惠南，2004：162)

1）基本颜色词（basic color words）：赤橙黄绿青蓝紫

2）实物颜色词（colors of objects）：金黄(gold)，银白(silver)，桔红(orange-red)，苹果绿(apple-green)

3）色差颜色词（color words in shades）：浅蓝(pale blue)，鲜红(bright red)，深黛(deep blue)宝石（gems）：绿宝石emerald；红宝石ruby；蓝宝石sapphire

2．颜色词的翻译方法

有些颜色词的文化意义在两种语言中差别较大，有不同的内涵和联想，从字面直译经常造成误解。翻译时一般要省略颜色，采用意译的方法传达出意义。如果是专门介绍颜色词的文化内涵或刻意保留这种文化形象，可以直译，有时要加注释，方便接受者理解。

2）和权势有关

从唐朝黄色便成为皇室专用色彩（秦朝为黑色），体现在建筑上，皇宫寺庙用红黄色调，王府官宦用蓝绿色调，民居只能用黑白灰。天坛是个例外，主调为蓝，因为皇帝是天子，相对降为蓝色。（参见包惠南，2004：184）

英文和皇族有关的颜色是紫色,也是源自衣服的颜色；蓝色也和贵族有关，来自西班牙语，因为某些自命血统更纯正的西班牙古老贵族中人的静脉比其他肤色较深的人看起来更蓝，如：

He was born to the purple(born into a royal family).

Members of the noble family are said to have blue blood in their veins.
