A Quarrel
Listen to Mark and Alice’s quarrel carefully then you are asked to rearrange the pictures in the chronological (时间先后) orderten with the Script
They say the worst family quarrels take place at
Christmas time. Mark and Alice had been married for two years, so this was their second Christmas together. With his December pay packet Mark always received a Christmas bonus, and he arrived home in a particularly cheerful mood. "Guess how much Christmas bonus I’ve got!" He cried. "Well... ￡300 perhaps?" suggested Alice, trying to remember what it had been the year before. "￡700," announced Mark happily. "Oh, great," cried Alice. "Now we can afford a new carpet for the sitting room, and..." "We’re going to buy a car," said Mark. Alice’s face clouded over.

to be continued “But the sitting room looks so dreary with that old brown carpet,” she said. “If we buy a new carpet, it will brighten up the whole place.” It was true. Nearly all the furniture in their rented flat consisted of discarded items given to them by friends and relatives. “But if we buy a car, we’ll be free. We’ll be able to go anywhere we want,” argued Mark. “If you want a good car, you’ll have to pay a lot more than ￡700,” objected Alice. “I know that,” said Mark. “I’m going to put the ￡700 down as a deposit and borrow the rest.” “Then I can see we’re never going to have any money to furnish the flat properly,” shouted Alice.

to be continued Well, Mark had really set his heart on buying that car and Alice was equally determined to buy some nice furniture for the flat, so the argument continued all during the Christmas holiday. In the end they reached a compromise. They spent ￡200 on a carpet for the sitting room and Mark put ￡500 deposit on a fouryear-old car.
