Data-driven Website Design: E-parent-notes in

the Elementary School

ABSTRACT

Many elementary schools not only use a website to do administrative work, but announce latest news and e-learning. E-parent-notes broaden the use of the Internet and helps it goes deeper into families. It shows the unique role the Internet plays in education, and builds a new relationship among parents, teachers, and students.

Students, parents and teachers read and write parent notes every day. It is used as a journal for students in the elementary school. In addition, it becomes an information gateway between parents and teachers. It can also help connect family members and solve the students’ problems. Modern tend to live a busy life, so it is getting harder for parents to find time to communicate with teachers.

The study presents a data-driven system. It is different from html web pages. The administrator can update and maintain data through the web interface. We developed a video application to solve the problem of lacking interaction before by using Flash Media Server. It extends the capabilities of E-parent-notes and becomes user-friendly for some parents who are not good at typing. We also used Google Analytics reports as assistant data. Based on the reports, we will improve the system and equip the E-parent-notes with better and useful functions for users.
