• During the ROKS（韩国） Cheonan （天安号） sinking( saga, he took the unusual step of demanding action against North Korea for the alleged （可疑的）sinking of a vessel from his country. This move was perceived as unusual because it was rare for any Secretary-General— and particularly Ban Ki-moon—to comment on the Security Council taking action on a particular issue as his office had, in the past, tended to be extremely deferential（恭敬的） to the Security Council.
• Mr. Ban also met with Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), he discussed issues of interest to the Caribbean region, such as climate change, as well as cooperation between the CARICOM Secretariat and the UN system.

Ban reiterated his call for the release of the remaining political prisoners in Myanmar . He also recognized the significance of recent developments in the country and encouraged the Government to step up its reform efforts to bring about an inclusive transition. Mr. Ban and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Greece, discussed the UN-backed talks aimed at reunifying Cyprus, as well as the status of the negotiations facilitated by the world body between Athens and Skopje to resolve the longrunning dispute over the official name of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
In 2004, Ban replaced Yoon Young Kwan as foreign minister of South Korea .Ban became actively involved in issues relating to interKorean relationships. In September 2005, as Foreign Minister, he played a leading role in the diplomatic efforts to adopt the Joint Statement on resolving the North Korean nuclear issue at the Fourth Round of the Six-party talks（六方会谈） held in Beijing.
• From 1993–1994 Ban was Korea's deputy ambassador to the United States and then appointed National Security Advisor to the President in 1996.In 2001, during the 56th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Republic of Korea held the rotating presidency, he was selected to be the chief of staff to general assembly president Han Seung-soo. In 2003, Roh Moo-hyun selected Ban as one of his foreign policy advisors.19
