我一直有个梦想，要在上海建设一座建筑，展现出适合当代中国的优雅生活方式，并且凸显新时代亚洲文化价值的卓越观点。

酝酿了将近6年，这个理想终于落实在2006年4月奠基，我给她取名“证大喜玛拉雅中心”。

喜玛拉雅是世界最高也最年轻的山脉之一。

绮丽壮观的冰川汇注中国七大河流，险峻山
势考验人类体魄，磨练意志，优美景致更显出圣洁崇高的形象。

喜玛拉雅中心正代表着我多年来的思考，她将萃取中国智慧的精华，并将其发挥得尽善尽美，营造和谐、健康、优雅的现代生活。

实际上，她将通过酒店、美术馆、表演厅、商场与办公室等业态，全面展现当代中国优雅生活的精致样貌，示范推崇亚洲文化价值的优异作为，树立新时代文化创意产业的卓越指标。

我们进行了无数次的研讨与沟通，经过国际竞图评比，最后确定由国际建筑大师矶崎新先生总筹设计，预计2009年开始运营；其间，还有很长的路要走。

我期待并真诚地邀请社会各界人士与中外专家一齐参与这个项目，让她成为当代中国优雅生活的标的，更是一处世界共享的精神家园。

The Himalayas are the tallest and most dramatic mountains in the world. With spectacular glaciers, it feeds seven of Asia’s major rivers. Its treacherous terrain challenges the limits of human ability and will. The Himalayas Center encapsulates all these features. Anchored by a hotel and museum, the center also consists of a multi-functional performance hall, retail mall, and creative office complex. It promises to be a showcase for contemporary Chinese lifestyle, exuding elegance, Asian cultural values, and representing the epitome of creativity.
Through an international competition and careful consideration, Mr. Arata Isozaki was appointed chief architect for the Himalayas Center. The project is scheduled to be completed and operational in 2009. I sincerely invite local and overseas experts from all relevant professions to join us to make the Himalayas Center a true model of Chinese lifestyle as well as a spiritual home for everyone
around the world.
矶崎新，东京大学建筑博士，日籍国际知名建筑师。

1963年，创立矶崎新设计室，自此活跃于国际建筑界，作品众多，获奖无数。

由于其洞察敏锐和细致的幽默感，他成功地连结古典的诗化意境与先进的设计思想，造就结合传统文化与现代生活的建筑佳作。

喜玛拉雅中心的建筑造型，旨在将中国智慧融入当代建筑之中，成就二十一世纪世界级大都会努力追求的“像”（ICON ）。

建筑已超越了现下建筑和艺术的概念，虽沉埋在都市纷杂之中，却能通过本身特有的个性和表情吸引人们的视线，我们称之为建筑雕塑（Archisculpture ）。

建筑整体由晶莹透亮的立方体和闪烁金属光泽的有机形体所构成。

简洁明快的方形体内是酒店和创意工作室，浮现空中可供远望；中央不规则的有机形体以“林”为发展意象，内含美术馆与演艺娱乐设施，外表多种曲面委婉变化，对应人的尺度；其中开放的城市文化广场，将成为公众活动的集聚点。

单纯和有机，规则与随意的结合，构成了建筑本身的雕塑性，也增强了中心作为城市“像”的震撼力。

With his powers of keen observation and a sense of humor, world-renowned Japanese architect, Mr. Arata Isozaki, has infused his works with classic poetic imagery and avant garde design concepts creating a dialogue between the traditional and contemporary.
The design of the Himalayas Center represents this style, making it an icon in a 21st century
metropolis. The Center will transcend existing architectural and artistic concepts and it will attract admirers of its unique character that we call “Archisculpture.”
The building’s structure represents a combination of crystalline cubes and organic structures with a metallic sheen. Visible from afar, the cubes will consist of an art hotel and creative office complex. The central part of the structure comes from the imagery of “lin,” or forest, and will be home to the museum and performance hall. Simple and organic, regular and randomly variant, the Center represents “Archisculpture,” and will prove to be an ICON of Shanghai.
