Underwater wireless optical communication system is a wireless communication system which optical signal is used as communication signal. The main research direction of lab is laser-based underwater wireless communication.

The original signal(it can be pictures,sound or video and soon) is modulated with PPM(Pulse Position Modulation) after coding(the code must be designed to suit for spread underwater), which driving the laser light source system. Then the modulated laser is transmitted through water as information source. At the receiving end, the optical signal via water channel is amplified and transferred into electrical signal by Photomultiplier tubes which get the information from receiving equipment. The electrical signal is demodulated into coded original signal. Eventually, we can use specific decoding algorithm to get approximate reduction original information.
