《实用英语写作》课程教学大纲

学分: 4学分

总学时:64时

适用专业:大专层次的商务英语、旅游英语、会展英语专业

先修课程:《基础英语》、《英语语法》、《英语阅读》等。

并修与后续课程:《外贸英语函电》《国际贸易实务英语》《国际商务英语谈判》《会展实务英语》《导游实务英语》等。

一、课程的性质与任务:

1.课程的性质:本课程是商务、会展、旅游英语专业的必修专业基础课程。

2.课程的任务:本课程主要通过写作理论知识讲授与写作实践训练相结合,运用各种有效的教学方法,如:个案分析,课堂讨论,学生互改,教师面改,师生讲评,范文展示等,使学生系统掌握英语的句法结构,熟悉英汉思维模式的差异,培养初步的正确的英语句子表达能力,同时掌握简单的英语三段式的英语文章的写作,了解英语各种文体的表达方式和特点,扩大词汇量和熟悉英语常用句型,具备良好的笔头表达能力。

二、课程教学基本要求:

本课程在加强英语语言基础知识和基本技能训练的同时,重视培养学生初步的写作能力,包括提纲,文章摘要,短文以及常用应用文写作。通过要课程的学习,学生应达到以下几个要求:

1.熟悉各类应用文的书写格式和写作方法;

2.掌握大学英语四、六级考试作文的写作方法和技巧;

3.能在阅读难度与课文相仿的书面材料时做笔记、回答问题、写提纲和摘

要;

4.能就一定的话题或提纲、表格或图示,在半小时内写出120-150个单词

的短文;

5.能写信函、便条和简历;

6.写作格式正确,表达意思清楚得体,无重大语言错误。

本课程主要通过读写结合、学生互评、学生自改,教师面改、师生讲评、范文展示等多种教学方法交替使用,使学生系统掌握英语的句法结构,熟悉英汉思维模式的差异,培养初步的正确的英语句子表达能力,同时掌握简单的英语三段式的英语文章的写作,了解英语各种文体的表达方式和特点,扩大词汇量和熟悉英语常用句型,具备良好的笔头表达能力。本课程教学主要内容及基本要求如下:

Unit 1 Unit One: Introduction

Teaching Objectives

Students are expected to

(1) realize the importance of learning to write in English

(2) become aware of the differences between English writing and Chinese Writing

(3) build up confidence and form the habit of writing in English

(4) avoid thinking and writing in Chinglish

Unit 2 Unit 2 : Paragraph & Paragraph Structure

Teaching Objectives

Students are expected to

(1) know the definition and the structure of an English paragraph

(2) know what a good paragraph should be like

(3) form sound habit of writing united and coherent paragraphs in English.

Unit 3 Topic Sentence Writing

Teaching Objectives

Students are expected to be able to

(1) Understand the functions and the basic elements of a topic sentence for a paragraph

(2) Write an appropriate topic sentence for a paragraph

Unit 4 Paragraph Development:Listing & Exemplification Teaching Objectives

Students are expected to

(1) Understand the functions of listing and exemplification

(2) Give appropriate examples as supporting details

(3) Master the usages of listing and exemplification as supporting details

Unit 5 Paragraph Development—Comparison & Contrast Teaching Objectives

Students are expected to

(1)be able to note down important information from oral communications in well-formed English (sentence-level writing)

(2)have some basic knowledge about paragraph development by comparison and contrast

()be able to write comparison and contrast paragraphs

Unit 6 Paragraph Development:Cause & Effect

Teaching Objectives

Students are expected to:

(1)have some basic knowledge about paragraph development by cause and effect (2)be able to identify cause and effect in a reading passage
