MASTER OF SCIENCE I. ACCOUNTING
Macau has been undergoing rapid economics development in the recent years, especially since the opening of the gaming monopoly in 2002. As an economy which is attracting more and more foreign investors, Macau needs to adhere to broadly accepted international standards and principles of law, transparency, and accountability. In order words, there is a need for high level training in the area of accounting, incorporating education in business ethics, corporate governance, accountability and corporate social responsibility. Furthermore, there is now an urgent need for high level professionals who possess advanced accounting knowledge in IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and IAS (International Accounting Standards). In fact, effective 1st January 2007, China has adopted 39 ASBE (Accounting Standards for Business Enterprise), which are equivalent to IAS. At the same time, Macau has also adopted 15 IAS. At such a time of standards convergence, local professional accountants have a strong demand for advanced systematic learning of the latest international accounting knowledge. OBJECTIVES The program aims: a) to provide solid training in the principal areas of professional accounting so as to develop analytical skills in solving accounting and finance related problems. b) to provide significant knowledge in the latest international reporting standards, business ethics, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. c) to provide a springboard toward gaining a first class professional accounting qualification (e.g. Macau CPA, ACCA, CPA Australia, etc). ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Admission will be in accordance with the University Admission Regulation on Master's degree. Applicants are required to provide TOEFL or IETLS scores for the proof of their English proficiency. GMAT or GRE score are also recommended. MEDIUM of INSTRUCTION English (except China Taxation which may be taught in Chinese or a combination of English and Chinese) COURSE TIME & VENUE This Program runs for 2 years, from September 2012 to August 2014. The coursework runs for one academic year, and students are normally given until the end of the 4th semester to complete their theses. Classes will be held mostly at the Adelson Advanced Education Center of the University of Macau* and occasionally at the main campus, on weekday evenings (6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.), and occasionally on Saturday afternoons (2 p.m. – 5 p.m.), or on weekends for

specially designated courses. * Please note that the majority of courses of the Master Degree Programs and Postgraduate Degree Program offered by FBA will be conducted at the Adelson Advanced Education Center located at the Venetian Resort.
