Zeus’s lightning bolt had been stolen, and he was convinced that the thief was Poseidon’s son Percy Jackson. He threatened Poseidon that if Percy couldn’t return the bolt in fourteen days by midnight on the summer solstice, there would be war. Poseidon was very angry with Zeus but could do nothing except reminding Percy of being prepared for everything secretly.

Percy, companied by his protector satyr Grover, arrived at the Camp Half Blood. However, on the way, his mother was killed by Minotaur and went into the underworld. Percy was trained in the camp, and won the fight with Annabeth, Athena’s daughter. Hades showed up in the camp, telling Percy to offer the lightning bolt in exchange for his mother. Thus, without the permission of his teacher, the Centaur Chiron, Percy went on his journey to the underworld secretly. On the way, Annabeth and Grover joined in him. After Luke, son of Hermes, gave them some instructions, they went on their way.

On the way, they need to collect three pearls of Persephone for the use of getting out of the underworld. They went to three places, including Auntieville, where they came across Medusa, Parthenon, where they came across Hydra, and Lotus Casino in Vegas, which was actually lair of lotus eaters. Experiencing all of this, they finally went into the underworld. Percy told Hades that he didn’t have the lightning bolt, but hades found the lightning bolt in Percy’s shield, then he got very angry. Percy, Grover, Annabeth and Percy’s mot her Sally were almost eaten by evil souls, while Persephone, Hades’s wife, used the lightning bolt to attack Hades, and sent them away except Grover. This is the summary of the whole movie, and actually its structure is very simple. The main clue is Percy’s journey to save his mother, so the main theme is love. Besides, friendship between Grover, Annabeth and Percy, the sacrifice of Sally for Percy, of Grover for his friends are also major themes. During the process of their journey to Hades, Percy’s bravery, strength, and cleverness can be found. In addition, power, control, and fighting are also distinct themes.
