(1) swamp意为“沼泽;沼泽地”,既可做可数名词,也可做不可数名词。

We’ve been up for two hours.我们已经起来两个小时了。

(1) 短语be against (doing) sth. 意为“反对(做)某事”,而be against sb. 意为“反对某人”。

(2) 反义词:be for sb. / sth. 支持某人/某事5. I’ve visited a lot of zoos in my life, and l have never seen one I liked or one that was suitable for animals to live in.我一生中参观了很多动物园,但从未看见一个我喜欢的或是适合动物生存的动物园。

(1) 本句为并列复合句,由and连接的第二个分句中包含了两个定语从句,即l liked为定语从句修饰第一个one,that was suitable for animals to live in为修饰第二个one的定语从句。

在先行词one和定语从句I liked间省略了关系代词that,因为此时关系代词that在定语从句中做宾语,常可省略;而第二个one与定语从句间的关系代词that却不能省略,因为此时that在定语从句中做主语,不可省去。

例如:I mean the one that was bought yesterday.我指的是昨天买的那个。

(2) suitable做形容词,意为“适合的;适宜的;恰当的”;如be suitable (for sb.) to do sth.表示“适合某人做某事”。

例如:The park is suitable for children to play game.这个公园适合孩子们做游戏。

(3) suitable for... 意为“适合于……的”。

例如:It’s a place suitable for a picnic.那是个适合野餐的地方。

(3) discover 做动词,意为“发现”,指的是发现原来已存的,但不为人知的事物。

可接名词、代词、带疑问词的动词不定式、wh-从句、that从句做宾语,也可以接复合宾语,可用于被动语态。

例如:Recently they have discovered a comet.最近他们发现了一颗彗星。

(2) urge还可表示“驱策;推进”。

carefor sth. 用于否定句或疑问句中,常与would连用,表示“愿意或同意做某事;希望或喜欢做某事”。

如:Would you care for going for a walk with me?愿意和我一起去散步吗?(2) care for还有“照看;照顾”的意思,与我们以前学过的take care of和look after同义,常用于被动语态中。
