六年级下册园地二英语作文鲁滨逊漂流记全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1Robinson Crusoe: A Castaway's AdventureMy name is Robinson Crusoe and I want to tell you about the most exciting and terrifying adventure of my life. It all started when I went on a long sea voyage against my parents' wishes. I was determined to become a successful merchant sailor and see the world. Little did I know that this decision would lead me to be shipwrecked and stranded alone on a remote desert island for over 24 years! It was a dark and stormy night when our ship was caught in a violent storm. Huge waves battered the ship as winds howled like a thousand wolves. The crew fought valiantly to keep the ship afloat, but it was no use. A massive wave crashed over the deck, smashing the ship to pieces. I was thrown into the raging sea, certain I would drown. But through sheer determination and a bit of luck, I managed to grab onto some wreckage and was washed ashore on a sandy beach. When I awoke the next morning, I saw that I was the sole survivor. The ship and my crew mates were nowhere to be seen, lost to the depths of the merciless sea. I was alone, stranded on a deserted island with no fresh water, food, shelter or any means of being rescued. Panic started to set in as I realized the seriousness of my predicament. How would I survive? Would I eventually die of starvation or be killed by wild animals? The chances of being rescued seemed impossibly small. After allowing myself to feel sorry for a day, I decided I had to take action if I wanted to live. I began exploring the island, assessing what few supplies had washed ashore from the shipwreck. Using some crates, barrels and ship's canvas, I managed to build a crude shelter to protect me from the blistering sun and nightly rains. I found a few casks of dried meat and biscuits, a box of tobacco, a few bottles of rum, an empty chest, some tools, a dog's leash and not much else. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing.Slowly but surely, I started to build a life for myself on the island. I found fresh water inland and learned to hunt goats and other small animals for food using the few guns and muskets that had washed ashore. I planted crops from seeds I had brought on the voyage and grew pumpkins, grains and tobacco.I smoked the tobacco to keep me sane in my lonely existence. The deserted island had become my home and prison. For nearly 15 years, I lived like this with no human company except for a parrot I domesticated that could speak a few words.I yearned to be rescued or at least see another human face, but had mostly given up hope. That all changed when I discovered a crude print of a human footprint in the sand one morning! At first I thought it may have been an oddly shaped rock or vegetation, but realized with mounting excitement and terror that it must have been made by another human being. The island was inhabited after all! But was this good news or did it mean there were hostile savages afoot? For weeks, I nervously watched for any sign of who had made the footprint, musket in hand ready to defend myself. Then one day, I heard horrifying screams and cries in the distance. I climbed a tall rock to investigate and witnessed a grisly scene - a band of cannibals was preparing to slaughter and eat several prisoners! Just then, one of the prisoners broke free and started running directly towards me with the cannibals in hot pursuit.I had to make a split second decision. I could either try to kill the cannibals with my musket and risk being overpowered by their numbers, or attempt to save the fleeing prisoner. I chosethe latter, yelling at him to run towards me and hide in a camouflaged trench I had built near my shelter. Within moments, the escaped prisoner scampered into my trench just as the cannibals rushed by looking for him.To my great relief, the cannibals eventually gave up their pursuit and left the island, though I feared they would return. But for now, I finally had some human company! The escaped prisoner was a humble man named Friday who had been captured by the cannibals on a different island. He was eternally grateful that I had saved his life and agreed to be my obedient servant. Finally, after nearly 15 years of isolation, I had a loyal friend and companion to share my island existence. With Friday's help, life on the island became much easier. He helped me with chores like gathering food and water, maintaining the shelter, defending against wildlife and keeping watch for returning cannibals. We co-existed peacefully for several years until one day, Friday excitedly alerted me to a ship approaching the island! Sure enough, English sailors had dropped anchor off the coast to restock their supplies. I grabbed a chest, hurriedly wrote the word "HELP" on it, and launched it into the sea where the sailors spotted it and came to investigate. At long last, after 24 harrowing years as a castaway, I was finally rescued along with my faithful friend Friday. Never again would I take for granted the joys and comforts of human civilization. Life on that remote island had been a brutal test of survival, perseverance and keeping hope alive in the bleakest of circumstances. But somehow I endured and lived to tell my extraordinary tale of adventure. I was truly Robinson Crusoe, ultimate survivor of the deserted island.篇2Robinson Crusoe - A Thrilling Tale of SurvivalI recently read the classic adventure novel "Robinson Crusoe" by Daniel Defoe for my English class, and I have to say, it was an absolute page-turner! The story follows the incredible journey of a young man named Robinson Crusoe who finds himself stranded on a remote tropical island after a disastrous shipwreck. Despite the seemingly hopeless situation, Crusoe's determination, resourcefulness, and unwavering spirit allow him to survive and even thrive in his new environment. The book begins with Crusoe's rebellious youth, where he disobeys his parents' wishes and embarks on a life at sea against their advice. This decision ultimately leads him to the fatefulvoyage that ends in the shipwreck, leaving him as the sole survivor on the deserted island. At first, Crusoe is overwhelmed by fear and despair, but he soon realizes that he must use his wits and skills to find food, shelter, and protect himself from potential dangers. One of the aspects I found most fascinating was Crusoe's ability to adapt and improvise using the limited resources available on the island. He learns to hunt, build shelters, make tools, and even cultivate crops, gradually transforming the wilderness into a livable homestead. His ingenuity and perseverance in the face of adversity were truly inspiring.Another highlight of the book was Crusoe's encounter with the native islanders, whom he initially feared but later befriended and even saved from cannibalistic tribes. This interaction added an intriguing layer of cultural exchange and moral dilemmas to the story. Crusoe's relationship with his loyal companion, Friday, whom he rescued and taught English, was particularly heartwarming and showcased the power of friendship and human connection, even in the most isolated of circumstances.Throughout the novel, Defoe masterfully weaves themes of survival, self-reliance, and the resilience of the human spirit. Crusoe's unwavering faith and gratitude for his fortunatecircumstances, despite the hardships he endured, were also thought-provoking and reminded me of the importance of maintaining a positive mindset in difficult times. One aspect that struck me was the vivid and detailed descriptions of the island's natural environment, from the lush vegetation and exotic wildlife to the breathtaking sunsets and powerful storms. Defoe's writing transported me to this remote paradise, allowing me to vividly imagine Crusoe's daily struggles and triumphs. While the book was written in the 18th century, its themes and messages remain relevant today. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of self-sufficiency, resourcefulness, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Crusoe's story is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the boundless potential within each of us to overcome even the most daunting challenges.Overall, "Robinson Crusoe" was a captivating andthought-provoking read that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Crusoe's adventures on the island were both thrilling and educational, teaching valuable lessons about resilience, problem-solving, and the beauty of nature. I wouldhighly recommend this classic novel to anyone seeking an engaging and inspiring tale of survival against all odds.篇3Robinson Crusoe: A Tale of Adventure and SurvivalIf you ask me, Robinson Crusoe is one of the most exciting adventure stories ever written! It's all about this guy named Robinson who gets shipwrecked on a desert island and has to figure out how to survive all by himself. It's a true classic that everyone should read. The story starts off with Robinson setting sail from England as an assistant to a ship's captain. But then a huge storm comes up and wrecks their ship! Robinson is tossed overboard and barely makes it to a tiny island, the only survivor. Can you imagine how terrifying that must have been? No food, no shelter, no other people around for miles and miles of open sea. I would've been freaking out!But Robinson keeps a cool head and gets right to work. First thing he does is build himself a little hut out of wood and branches to have shelter from the elements. Then he starts exploring the island, always on the lookout for anything useful that washed up from the shipwreck - tools, supplies, weapons, you name it. He uses some crafty nautical skills to patch together a boat from the wreckage so he can retrieve stuff from thehalf-sunken ship.Over time, Robinson turns himself into a regular Swiss Family Robinson. He learns to hunt, forage for food, grow crops, make clothes, and become basically self-sufficient. The guy is like a survival genius! He even makes friends with some of the animals on the island, like his parrot Poll. Robinson seems to have everything he needs to live comfortably on this island paradise. That is, until one day he discovers a human footprint in the sand...and it's not his!Suddenly Robinson realizes the island may not be as deserted as he thought. He starts finding more unsettling signs that other people have been there, like remains of campfires. This totally freaks Robinson out because he has no idea if whoever else is on the island is friendly or not. For all he knows, they could be murderous cannibals or pirates! So he gets his musket ready to defend himself. It turns out the "others" on the island are indeed cannibals, who periodically come to the island to have humans for dinner. I'm not kidding! They bring over prisoners to fatten them up and then eat them. How crazy is that? Robinson manages to kill mostof the cannibals when they attack, but spares one guy's life who he names Friday (because it was a Friday).Robinson takes Friday in and treats him like a servant/friend. Over the years they become super close bros. Friday helps look after the crops and defenses, and even gets converted to Christianity and learns English. The two of them live a chill life of fishing, exploring and avoiding anymore pirates or cannibals. It's like a real life buddy comedy on the island! After almost 30 years though, Robinson gets instantly rescued by a ship! He's bummed to leave the island at first, but realizes he can finally go back home to England and hang out with his family and friends again. He brings along Friday as his travel buddy. When they get back, Robinson selling the story of his wild adventures makes them both stinking rich celebrities. The end!I loved this book because it has pretty much everything - shipwrecks, bad cannibals, hero vs. wild struggles, buddy humor between the guys, and a happy ending too! It shows how even when everything seems hopeless, you shouldn't give up. As long as you use your wits and work hard, you can overcome any challenges. Survival skills for the win!Robinson Crusoe is definitely a must-read classic. Any fans of adventure, drama or being stranded on a deserted isle will eat this tale up for sure. The vivid descriptions make you feel like you're really there on the island too. And it's amazing to think how Robinson could go from being scared for his life to becoming king of his own island! He's like the original survival man hero. What an epic story all around - I give it 5 stars for sure and a big thumbs up!。

In this assembly we are looking at the second most important holiday in the traditional Chinese calendar after Chinese New Year. It is called the Mid-Autumn Festival but is also most commonly called the Moon Festival.I think you will all remember that Chinese New Year falls on a different day each year because it uses the old, traditional calendar based on the moon, not the sun. TheMid-Autumn Festival is the same, and this year it falls on 8th September, the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. There is an old story connected with the Moon Festival about Hòu Yì, famous for his skill with a bow and arrow, and his beautiful wife Cháng É.One day, instead of just one sun rising in the morning, ten suns appeared and the earth began to burn under their heat. People couldn’t bear it ,the crops and plants were dying The people called on Hòu Yì to do somethingto save them. Hòu Yì took his great bow with his surperhuman strength ,he shot down nine of the suns, leaving just one again, as there should be Later the emperor rewarded HouYi with a magic pill for a long life.Cháng É was curious about what was in the box andone day opened it and swallowed the pill. Immediately her body became light as air and flew out of the house.window up into the sky until she reached the mo on. 创编一篇间谍在游乐园寻找宝藏的英语作文篇1Title: The Super Spy and the Lost TreasureHi everyone! I'm going to tell you an amazing story about a super cool spy and her adventure to find a lost treasure. Get ready, because this story is full of exciting twists and turns! It all started on a sunny Saturday morning. My name is Emma, and I'm a 9-year-old spy-in-training. I was relaxing at home when suddenly, my spy watch started beeping. It was the head of our secret spy agency calling with an important mission!"Emma, we need your help," said the voice on the watch. "One of our top spies has gone missing while searching for an ancient treasure in Funland, the biggest theme park in the city. Your mission is to find him and retrieve the treasure before the evil Dr. Doom gets his hands on it!"I couldn't believe my ears! A real spy mission at Funland? This was going to be the coolest day ever! I quickly got dressed in my spy gear - black outfit, night vision goggles, and tons of cool gadgets. Then I hopped on my super-fast spy bike and pedaled to Funland as fast as I could. When I arrived, Funland was packed with families having fun. The Roller Roaster zoomed by with screaming riders. TheTilt-a-Whirl spun in dizzying circles. And the Ferris wheel towered high above everything. Where could a missing spy be in all this chaos?I decided to start my search on the Laser Shooter ride. Zapping targets with laser guns sounded like something a spy would enjoy! But after riding it three times, I didn't see any signs of my lost comrade.Next, I checked out the Haunted House, thinking a spy might be hiding in the dark corners. I bravely ventured inside, using my night vision goggles to peek around every turn. Unfortunately, all I found were fake ghosts and skeletons. No spy!I was starting to get worried when suddenly, my stomach growled loudly. All this spy work had made me hungry! I decided to take a break and grab a snack at the food court. As I was munching on a cheesy pizza, I noticed something strange. A worker at the Soft Pretzel stand kept glancing around nervously. Could he be the missing spy in disguise? I had to investigate further!Using my super sneaky spy skills, I quietly followed the pretzel worker. He headed toward the back of the park, near the Tilt-a-Whirl ride. Then he knocked on the door of a utility shed in a secret pattern - two knocks, then three more knocks!Suddenly, the door opened and there stood a man dressed like a park worker, but I recognized him immediately as Agent X, one of our most experienced spies! I could tell by the cool scar on his cheek and his serious expression."Agent X!" I whispered excitedly as he motioned me inside the shed. "I'm Emma, a spy-in-training. I've been sent to find you!"Agent X smiled. "Excellent work tracking me down, Emma. I've located the ancient treasure, but I'm going to need your help to retrieve it." He pointed to a metal box sitting on a table. It looked very old and had strange symbols carved into the sides."This box contains a powerful relic that we must keep away from the villainous Dr. Doom at all costs," Agent X explained. "He's somewhere here in the park, searching for it too. We were lucky to find it first, but he has henchmen everywhere. We'll have to be extremely stealthy and clever to escape with the treasure."I nodded eagerly, ready for the challenge. Agent X and I spent the next hour coming up with an ingenious plan...(The story continues with Emma and Agent X's thrilling escape from the park while keeping the treasure away from Dr. Doom's evil clutches. Full of close calls, daring stunts, and outsmarting the bad guys at every turn! But I've run out of word count for now. Maybe I'll write the rest another time!)篇2The Super Cool Spy Adventure at Fun Land!Hi friends! My name is Tommy and I'm going to tell you about the most exciting day of my life so far. It was a sunny Saturday morning and my mom said we could go to Fun Land, which is the biggest theme park near our town. I was super pumped because Fun Land has awesome roller coasters, carnival games, and lots of other really cool stuff. Little did I know, this day was going to turn into a real-life spy mission! When we got to Fun Land, the first thing I noticed was this suspicious-looking guy standing near the entrance. He was wearing a long black trench coat and dark sunglasses, which seemed pretty weird for such a hot day. As we walked by him, I could have sworn I saw him slip something into his coat pocket.A warm tingle went down my spine - could this guy be a secret agent or something? My mom and I went on a bunch of rides after that - the Gravitron made me feel like a milkshake in a blender! - but I kept an eye out for Mr. Trench Coat. A couple hours later, I spotted him again lurking behind the concession stands. This time I was sure he was up to no good. Maybe he was hunting for a hidden treasure in the park and I needed to beat him to it!I told my mom I had to go to the bathroom, then snuck away and followed the shady character from a safe distance. He made his way towards the Haunted House ride, which was surrounded by some spooky trees and bushes. Perfect hiding spot for some treasure, I thought! The man looked around suspiciously, then started digging in the dirt under one of the bushes. "A-ha!" I whispered to myself, crouching down behind a trash can. Mr. Trench Coat pulled out an old tin box from the hole he had dug. He opened it up and peered inside with a sinister grin. I knew I had to act fast before he made off with whatever loot was in that box.Summoning all my courage, I jumped out from my hiding spot."Hold it right there, crook!" I shouted, trying to sound like atough police officer. "Don't even think about taking that treasure!"The shady guy looked shocked for a second, but then regained his composure. "Well, well, if it isn't a meddling little brat," he sneered. "This treasure isn't for kids. Why don't you run along before you get hurt?""No way, you're the one who better watch out!" I retorted, puffing out my chest. "I'm a black belt in...Inem-do karate!" I kicked and punched at the air, hoping my fierce moves would intimidate him.The baddie just laughed at me. "Is that so? We'll see about that." With surprising speed, he reached into his coat and whipped out a...banana? I stumbled backwards, laughing too at the unexpected weapon. But I quickly went wide-eyed as he peeled it and threw the squishy fruit right at my face!I smeared the banana mush from my eyes just in time to see the villain running away, tin box in hand. "No you don't!" I yelled, giving chase. We raced through the streets of the theme park, dodging other guests and leaping over benches. Finally, after what felt like miles, the baddie ran through the gates of the wacky trap maze - one of those attractions where you have tofind your way through a crazy house of obstacles, dead ends, and surprises around every turn.I knew this was my last chance to catch him. Drawing on all my courage and quick-thinking, I sprinted through the entrance and into the wild maze. Around one篇3亲爱的小朋友们,你们好啊!今天我给大家讲一个超级酷炫的间谍故事,相信你们一定会喜欢的。

1.《长津湖》英语观后感 The coldest night, the hottest blood. The most lovely people, the most determined military soul. Time back more than 70 years, the battle of blood and tears in the ice and snow is still unforgettable. This is eternal pain and eternal glory. History cannot be forgotten, heroes must be remembered. The upcoming "Changjin Lake" reproduces this thrilling World War I. However, no matter how clever the film narrative is, it can not say the magnificent and solemn and stirring of this epic. For a long time, "Changjin Lake battle" has become a legend of war and a totem of faith. Even if the ice body freezes the bones, he won't give in. Even if it is condensed into a "statue", it will not waver. In this campaign, the Chinese people's Volunteer Army, with amazing ideas and brave fighting spirit, conquered the extremely harsh environment, beat back the most elite ace troops of the US Army, recovered the vast area in the east north of the "38th parallel" and reversed the battlefield situation. This battle also became the turning point of the Korean War. On the one hand, the volunteers refused to give up an inch of land, on the other hand, the enemy "retreated the longest distance", and the balance of the war was reversed. And behind this outstanding war achievement, the price is heavy. The volunteer officers and soldiers on the 1081 highland braved the extremely cold temperature of minus 40 degrees to tenaciously hold their positions. Finally, the whole company made a heroic sacrifice in the battle posture of lying prone in the trench and became an ice sculpture that will never fall and stand tall. Steel like consciousness casts a steel like defense line. This is the great wall erected by flesh and blood in a bitter and cold place, which can resist the enemy, retreat thousands of miles, keep the peace of the family and country and keep long-term peace. Winter has come, and the passionate youth gives up life to die. After the bloody battle, he finally fought a path of blood and finally regained a glimmer of vitality. Ice and snow frozen the soldiers' bodies, but could not seal their immortal soul. This military soul is the clearest love for the country and nation; This military soul is a mountain of military discipline and a mighty iron stream. "Ice and snow! I will never give in to you. Even if I freeze to death, I will stand proudly on my position!" Changjin lake, once frozen and still. Years can prove that water has sound. It was the horn of a great fighter, and it was the roar of the soul of an iron army. The battle of Changjin lake was vigorous, desolate and soul stirring. Even though 71 years have passed, this fierce and heroic bloody battle has turned into a monument, with more and more surging strength. No time is quiet, but someone carries the weight for us. Only by advocating heroes can heroes emerge, and only by striving to be heroes can heroes emerge in large numbers. Always remember the ice and snow of Changjin lake, the most lovely people in the ice and snow and their immortal military soul.2.《长津湖》英语观后感 The coldest night, the hottest blood. Tears kept rolling in my eyes, but they didn't fall. Changjin Lake tells the story of the war to resist US aggression and aid Korea. Most of the soldiers in it are young people. The war was full of difficulties. Those young volunteers had to climb high snow mountains. The temperature there was as low as minus 30 or 40 degrees. They wore thin clothes and walked dozens of kilometers every day. They don't have sophisticated weapons, but they want to fight with American planes, artillery and tanks. They can only eat one potato a day, and there are still a few left for the wounded. However, the enemy soldiers spend Christmas and eat roast chicken in their comfortable and warm positions. I was impressed by a scene in the film: When the U.S. military charged with dozens of tanks and more than a dozen aircraft, a soldier Yang Gensi picked up a burning explosive package, rushed to our enemies and died with some of them. He did not hesitate to sacrifice his life in order to complete the task. Finally, our volunteers defeated the US Army. I want to learn from them the spirit of loving the motherland, not afraid of sacrifice and moving forward bravely. We should also cherish the happy life now, because it is bought with their sacrifice.。

童话故事英语开头怎么写作文

童话故事英语开头怎么写作文Since I was a little baby, my parents read simple stories for me. They bought me many cartoon books with stories. They were my bedtime stories. Among all the interesting stories, I like fairy tales most, because they are often beautiful love stories between prince and princes or Cinderella. They are so moved and full of love. Besides, in fairy tales, no matter how much they suffer, they will always live a happy life in the end. The happy endings bring hope and satisfaction to people, making us hopeful to our own lives. Everytime I read fairy tales, I put myself into the story, imagining I am one of them. That's wonderful.。

Among all the interesting stories, I like fairy tales most, because they are often beautiful love stories between prince and princes or Cinderella. They are so moved and full of love. Besides, in fairy tales, no matter how much they suffer, they will always live a happy life inthe end. The happy endings bring hope and satisfaction to people, making us hopeful to our own lives.如果您认可我的答案,请采纳。

The Story of the Great TrenchBetween the Yellow River and the Huaihe River, there is an artificial canal. Though it is not very big, it has an extreme significance in the ages of Chinese history. In the middle of a Chinese chessboard, there is a narrow space clearly marked as: “Boundary Line between Chu and Han”. This canal was the boundary line that divided ancient China. And the idiom “Boundary Line between Chu and Han”, which means a border between two opposing powers, also derives from it.The canal also has an amazing name, which is the Great Trench, and there is an amazing story behind it.In 362 B.C., King Hui of Kingdom Wei was very ambitious in dominating the Central Plains Area of China. However, he had to avoid confrontation with Kingdom Qin, which was becoming increasingly powerful. So he moved the capital city of Wei to Daliang, which is called Kaifeng nowadays in Henan Province, and there he built an indestructible city, Daliang.Daliang had high walls, thick and solid gates and was surrounded by a deep and wide moat. With incessant effort to build and maintain it, King Hui made the city as solid as iron. One day, while inspecting from the city wall with his ministers, King Hui said worriedly: “Our Kingdom is becoming more and more powerfu l, but how do we connect the capital city and our territories on the south and north side of the Yellow river? You know, Kingdom Qin has been casting their covetous eyes on those lands from the northwest. Do you have any good ideas, Mr. Premier?”Premier Baigui stepped forward and bowed before the king and said: “My King, there is no need to worry. I think we can dig a canal which connects the Yellow River in the north and the tributaries of the Huaihe River in the south. And by doing so, we will build a network of waterways which connect the Yellow River and the Huaihe River. And at the same time, we can develop a whole amphibious defense system based on our strong city and well-connected waterways.”King Hui kept nodding while he was stroking his beard gently.“If we dig this canal, we can transport soldiers and provisions as well as connect the capital with the territories alongside the Yellow River.” Baigui continued.King Hui was well pleased and said: “What you have said is very good. It is exactly the solution I have been looking for. Therefore, I appoint you to proceed with the canal project.”Baigui bowed and said to the King: “Yes, my King, I shall proceed with it with my entire mind and all my strength.”King Hui looked forward and said to himself: “In a chaotic world like this, the winner becomes king and the looser becomes outcast. Only by becoming the winner can I stand without being defeated. Oh, there shall be an inevitable war between kingdom Qin and Wei!”In the second year after King Hui moved the capital city, the waterway engineering project which was going to connect the Yellow River and the Huihe River, officially began. It was called the Great Trench Project.Baigui led the people in the digging of the canal. On the construction site, people were hurrying to and fro. Horses and carriages were movingthrough the throngs. The project went smoothly and speedily. Finally the canal was finished. Ships sailed to and fro, and the canal was bustling with noise and excitement. New cities emerged alongside the canal. And everything in Daliang city looked so prosperous. On one day in 336 B.C., a carriage stopped by the Great Trench, and two men came out of it.One of them was Mencius who is a chinese philosopher, the other one was his disciple Xu Zi.Xu Zi exclaimed: “How busy and exciting Daliang city is! How it is nurtured by the Great Trench!”Mencius said: “Is that all you see? Watch carefully. What else can you see?”Xu Zi shook his head and looked at the ships on the canal aimlessly.Mencius would never lose any opportunity to educate his disciple, so he said: “Look at the vast and mighty water which flows forward forever without stopping, and which rushes itself into the bosom of the sea. A man of noble character shall do things just like that.“But water can bring us disasters too. I have seen what it was like after a flood swept by. It was terrible.” Xu Zi argued.Mencius replied: “No matter how terrible a natural disaster is, it will end definitely. But what about war? No matter who wins the war, the civilians are always the ones who suffer. So I shall preach my opinion, which is a political policy of benevolence.”“But I’m afraid that they won’t accept it!” said Xu Zi.“Then I shall strive with unyielding effort!” said Mencius.Suddenly Mencius saw a tiny ant in a puddle, struggling for its life. He bent down and picked up a branch, and helped the ant out.Never forgetting his responsibility as a teacher, Mencius said to Xu Zi beside him: “Tiny, as it may be, the ant is still a life. We shall treat it with benevolence.”Xu Zi said with awe:“I will bear in mind your edification.”And they moved on from there with their carriage following them slowly.Meanwhile, in the King’s palace in Daliang, King Hui was chatting with Baigui. Suddenly came the report that Mencius was here with his disciple asking to meet the King. The King frowned and said: “What is he advocating this time? I hear that he is walking among the nations, trying to lobby them to adopt a benevolent policy to govern the peopl e!”“My King,” said Baigui, “Whatever comes, let us deal with it. But first, let us hear what he has to say. And if he tries to peddle his old talks again, let us just listen to him and forget about what he said, and send him off politely.”King Hui laughe d and said: “I think you are right, my beloved Premier. Let’s go and meet this old goat.”The King and the Premier were very unhappy and reluctant to see Mencius and Xu Zi, but out of politeness, they had to pretend to be happy to see them.“Sir, have you come all this way to bring us knowledge and treasure that will benefit our country?” asked King Hui.“My King, why value benefit so much? If the King seeks benefit, so shall his ministers and chancellors, and the people will follow their stepsthereafter. And if benefit is what everyone in the country fights for, then this country is in great danger.” said MenciusKing Hui frowned impatiently and Baigui laughed scornfully.Mencius continued: “If those in command of the army value benefit more than righteo usness, their greed won’t be satisfied until they become king in place of you. As to those who do not care a bit about benevolence and righteousness, who discard their parents without any scruple of conscience, they will not care about submitting to you either, my King. Therefore, benevolence and righteousness are far more important than benefit.”King Hui smiled bitterly with his fake nodding of agreement and said: “Yes, yes, what you have said is so right. Let me introduce. This is our water control expert, Baigui. It is due to his great contribution that we have such a prosperous Daliang.”“To govern a country is like governing water.” Mencius replied wittily.Baigui intended to step forward and argue with Mencius, but was prevented from doing so by King Hui.“Your noble intention has been fully welcomed and accepted. But it’s really getting late. So I think probably you should go back and rest.”Later, Mencius tried many times to lobby King Hui to adopt a policy of benevolence, but the King only pretended to listen to him. He never really put it into practice. In his old age, King Hui’s kingdom was besieged by Kingdom Qin, Chu, Qi and other nations and became less and less powerful. In 319 B.C., King Hui died and left his kingdom in a very unstable situation. In 225 B.C., General Wang Ben of Kingdom Qin led his army to attack Kingdom Wei. The roar of the Qin army broke through the quietness of the snowy sky.The Qin army besieged Daliang city, and shot thousands of arrows at the city. But their attack was met by the most fierce resistance from the army of Wei in defense of the city.Outside the city, the flames of torches gleamed. Inside the city, lamps were brightly lit. The soldiers were in high spirits and all were ready to fight. Because the city was well-supplied and the city walls werefortified, it was very hard for the army of Qin to occupy it.Seeing a gulf outside the city, Wang Ben suddenly came up with an idea. He decided to draw the water through the gulf to flood the Daliang City.Wang Ben led the Qin troops to build a dyke downstream the gulf as quickly as they could all night long. The dyke was to be filled with water. Once the water flew, they would dig the dyke to flood the city.On a rainy day, beyond the notice of the Wei army, the soldiers of Qin hid in disguise right outside the city. General Wang Ben climbed onto a temporary dam and looked up at the city walls of Wei.Then he lift up his sword and shouted: “Lift up the gates and let the water out!”And a vast amount of water came running down towards Daliang city through the Great Trench. The flood broke the city gates, and flushed away the soldiers inside the city. The soldiers struggled in the water And the city became an ocean.History played a joke on Wei. When they built the Great Trench, Wei intended it to be their strong defense system. However, it became the most efficient weapon that the Qin used to attack Wei.Time flew and it was now 202 B.C..Xiang Yu, the Hegemon King of Western Chu, and Liu Bang, the King of Han, fought a bloody war with each other for more power and more lands. The two armies faced each other in readiness to fight along the sides of the canal. They looked at each other fiercely. In history, Liu Bang, the king of Han, and Xiang Yu, the Hegemon King of Western Chu, once set the canal as the boundary line of their territories and divided the country. The west of the canal belonged to Han and the east of the canal belonged to Chu. This is the famous “Boundary Line between Chu and Han”.In a journey through time and space, it seems as if we could still see the figures of Mencius and Xu Zi looking forward by the side the Great Trench.Xu Zi said: “ Master, the policy of benevolence is good, but it is idealized. I don’t think that King Hu i caught on to your words at all. Andthat’s why his life and kingdom came to an end like this.”Mencius laughed and replied: “He was not the worst listener ever. At least he pretended to listen. Some kings didn’t even fake the politeness.”Xu Zi continued: “In my opinion, King Hui was not the only one who couldn’t accept your view. I’m afraid that no king in the world would really implement the policy of benevolence.”Mencius replied: “People are the most important. Then comes the country. And the king comes the last. It is easy to say that and it may sound ridiculous, but do not forget that ideology is the same as the water in the Great Trench. It will penetrate into people’s minds eventually. Someday, people will stay away from war and enjoy peace and prosperity.Xu Zi said: “May peace be to the world. I am looking forward to that day!”In the Great Trench, the water was flowing quietly. And it started raining when a carriage passed by.11。
