There are many differences between country life and city life in many ways. One person even does different things in the two places.
Julia lived in the countryside, but one year she decided to visit the capital city to do some shopping and to see the sights. She stayed at a hotel near the central market. She had seldom been to the city before, and was very excited about what she would find.
On the first morning of her visit, as she walked from the hotel to the market, she passed a beggar(乞丐). He was holding up a notice, which said, “Blind from birth. Please give generously(慷慨地).”
Julia felt sorry for the blind beggar and she bent down and put a dollar coin into his bowl. “Thank you.” he said.
The same thing happened again the following day.
On the third day, however, Julia did not have a dollar coin. She had only fifty cents, so she dropped this into the beggar’s bowl.

You may not know a lot of people when you start high school. Maybe your friends from middle school are going to a different high school. Even if you know other freshmen(新生), you still feel nervous that you don’t know any upper-classmen. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces?
Most high schools hold a freshman orientation(训练) before school actually starts. These are helpful not only because you learn your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but you also get to meet fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognize a few familiar faces.
When you talk to people at orientation, you’ll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They’re all new to the school and don’t know what to expect. Talking about a common concern with your classmates can help you develop friendships.
The work in high school is something freshmen are probably worried about. The work in high school builds on what you learned in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it’s a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.
High school also has more after-school activities than middle school did, such as clubs, music and theater groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
Middle school taught you the basics of academics, time management, and social skills while providing you with a little extra support and guidance. High school gives you the chance to learn how to be more independent and responsible.
60. According to the passage, when they come to the school on the first day freshmen usually feel ____.
A. proud
B. nervous
C. excited
D. afraid
61. What are freshmen probably worried about?
A. The learning task.
B. The ability to make friends.
C. The training in the freshman orientation.
D. The relationship with teachers.
62. After-school activities mainly help students ____.
A. build up healthy bodies
B. develop friendships
C. develop their interests
D. improve their learning ability
63. The last paragraph is mainly about ____.
A. what you’ll learn in high school
B. what you leaned in middle school
C. the difference between middle school and high school
D. the importance of being more independent and responsible

People who like travelling have their reasons. They believe that travelling can help them expand their field of view, especially in the geographical and historical sense. They also think that
touring will give them more chances to enjoy different kinds of food and experience new things that would never be brought by other activities. But those who dislike travelling also have some reasons.
Travelling, in my opinion, does more good than harm. Most importantly, it broadens our mind. We can get in touch with other civilizations (文明), cultures, customs and ideas.
Through history, most people travelled because of necessity (必要性)-not for pleasure. People travelled just in order to remain alive. They searched for food to eat or places to live in. They sometimes ran away from enemies. This is not to say that no one ever travelled just for the fun of it. In ancient times, for example, rich Romans travelled all the way to Greece to take part in the Olympic Games, and festivals. Of course, some people decided to travel just out of curiosity. They wanted to find out what it looked like beyond the horizon (地平线). Also business travel has been going on for centuries. Traders could not only make money but also learn to speak several languages and be introduced to different cultures.
So, travelling does enrich our mind and draw new ideas to us. There is no doubt that we can get much from it.
64. According to the passage, in the past most people travelled________.
A. for fun
B. for knowledge
C. to get experiences
D. to make a living
65. How many reasons for travelling are mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A. Three.
B. Four.
C. Five.
D. Six.
66. In the writer’s opinion, travelling can be________.
A. expensive
B. funny
C. helpful
D. tiring
67. What’s the main idea of this passage?
A. Different kinds of travelling.
B. Travelling enriches our mind.
C. Ways to enjoy yourself while travelling.
D. The advantages and disadvantages of travelling.
D
If you see a group of people dancing and singing on the street or in the railway station, you don’t need to feel surprised. They are a flash mob(快闪族), which is a group of people who come together suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, and then
quickly break up. They are usually organized with the help of the Internet or other digital communication network. At a predetermined(预先决定的) time, they gather and perform some distractions(消遣) such as waving their hands and exchanging books. Then, they quickly break up before the police can arrive. Using mobile phones, the flash mob can change its location if the first one has been replaced for any reason.
Bill Lasik, senior editor of Harper’s Magazine, organized the first flash mob in Manhatt an in May 2003 and the first successful flash mob came together on June 3, 2003 —after the first attempt failed at Macy’s department store. Lasik claimed that the activity was designed to make fun of hipsters(赶时髦的人), and call attention to the cultural atmosphere.
Flash mob gatherings can sometimes shock people. Such an activity might seem amusing and untrue, but it also might frighten people who are not aware of what is taking place. Undoubtedly, flash mobs can serve as good political tools in any direction. They also have great economic potential, such as using flash mobs to advertise a product.
The flash mob is now becoming more and more popular. People use it to do many things. For example, in 2009, Michael Jackson's fans took part in a flash mob to remember him. Hundreds of his fans gathered singing and dancing Michael’s famous song “Beat It” together. Flash mobs give people from all walks of life an opportunity to come together to create a memory.
68. What can you learn about the flash mob from the passage?
A. The flash mob usually breaks up quickly for lacking enough time.
B. Once the place for the activity is determined, it can’t be changed.
C. The flash mob can be made use offing many fields just for fun.
D. It gives people the chance to come together to do something unusual.
69.The main purpose of the passage is ____.
A. to suggest
B. to encourage
C. to introduce
D. to persuade
70.The writer's attitude towards the flash mob is ____.
A. negative
B. positive
C. objective
D. doubtful
第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

选项中有两项为多余选项。

An Interesting Experiment
Put an ice cube(冰块) from your fridge into a glass of water. 71 Thus, you can take out that piece of ice with the help of the string. But you must not touch the ice with your fingers.
You may ask your friends to try to do that when you are having dinner together. 72 You must use salt when you carry out this experiment.
73 Then put some salt on the ice. Salt makes ice melt(融化). The ice round the string will begin to melt. 74 The cold ice cube will make the salt water freeze again.
After a minute or two you may raise the piece of string and with it you will raise your piece of ice!
This experiment can be very useful to you. If, for example, there is ice near the door of your house, you must use very much salt to melt all the ice. 75
A. If you don’t put enough salt, the water will freeze again.
B. The string must be at least 10 centimeters long.

书面表达
Nowadays the Internet has become part of our daily life. Some students even think that computers can give us lessons instead of teachers. I don’t agree with this opinion. In my view, we can’t have lessons without teachers teaching us face to face because they can help us whenever we meet with difficulties or questions. What’s more, it’s very important to work together as a class.
There are some other disadvantages besides these. Firstly, it will be harmful to our eyes if we look at a computer screen for a long time. Secondly, it takes us too much time to play computer games and we may get addicted to it. It would be very difficult to get rid of the bad habit. What’s worse, we may have access to the scenes of violence and sex.
In a word, if we use the Internet in a proper way, it can help us a lot without bringing trouble.。
