第三部分:阅读理解(第一节16 小题,第二节 4 小题,每题 2 分,满分
第一节:阅读以下短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D 中,选出最正确选项。
A
The professor stood before his class of 30 senior biology students, about to
pass out the final exam.“ I have been honored to be your teacher this term, and
I know how hard you have all worked to prepare for this test. I also know most of
you are off to medical school or graduate school next fall,” he said to them.
“ I can well understand how much pressure you are under to keep your grades
up, and because I know you are able to understand this material, I am prepared to
offer an automatic(自动的 ) “ B” to anyone who would prefer not to take the final.”
In relief a number of students jumped up to thank the professor and left the
class. The professor looked at the students who remained, and offered again,“Any other takers? This is your last chance.” One more student decided to go.
There were seven students left. The professor closed the door. Then he handed out the final exam. There were only two sentences typed on the paper:“ Congratulations, you have just received an“ A” in this class. Keep believing
in yourself.”
I never had a professor who gave a test like that. It may seem like the easy
way out of grading( 评分 ) a lot of exams, but it’ s a test that any teacher in any subject could and should give.Students who don’ t have confidence in what they ’ ve learned are“ B” students at best.
The same is true for students of real life. The“ A” students are those who believe in what they’ re doing because they’ ve learned from both successes and failures. They have learned life’s lessons, whether from formal education or the school of hard knocks, and become better people.
Take your cue( 楷模 )from Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma: “ It ’ s not the mountain we conquer(征服),but ourselves.”Don’ t let the biggest limit be yourself.
61.The professor offered an automatic“ B” to those who would prefer not to take
the final exam because _________.
A. he liked the students who wanted to get a“ B”
B. he believed they were able to pass the exam
C. he thought any teacher should give them a“ B”
D. he thought it was the easy way of grading exams.
62. According to the text, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. 22 students got a“ B” in the final test without doing the paper.
B. Most of the students would go to medical school shortly after the exam.
C. There were actually no problems on the test papers for the students to work
out.
D. The way the professor tested his students would not be suitable for other
subjects.
63. According to the writer, the test given by the professor was ________.
A. funny
B. meaningful
C. difficult
D. harmful
64.The point of the story is to advise readers _________.
A.to pay attention to what they can do
B.not to miss any final exam at school
C.not to let themselves limit their growth
D.to surround themselves with confident people
B
Sometimes teens ( 十几岁的少年 )need to have some time away from their families. They may want to move out of the family or home for a while.
Many parents will say no to this demand. But experts say it might be a good
idea to let your teens live with a friend or a relative.“It was the break I needed at the time,” said Richard Lerne. He is talking about the time he spent living
with his grandmother when he was 15. “ It allowed me to be a more different person than I was with my parents.” Lerne said.He now heads the Institute for Children, Youth and Families at Michigan State University.
Experts say teens living away from their families can test new ways of thinking and getting along with people. They may see new ways to problems. Some teens who
want some time away from family attend a structured summer program. Others live
for a while with a relative or with the family of a friend.
If there is conflict (矛盾 ) at home, having a teen live elsewhere can benefit
other family members. It gives everyone space to develop better relationships.
Joseph Kett teaches history at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
He says living at home until the late ten years has become the norm (准则 ) only in recent times.“In the 17th century, children were often sent to live in other
people ’ s home when they were about 10 or 11” , he said.
Peter Sheras teaches education at the University of Virginia. He says parents should listen when a child wants to move out. They should try to find out why the
child wants some time away.
65. According to this passage, many parents may think it _____ for their children
to live away from them.
A. right
B. happy
C. unsafe
D. reasonable
66.When children seriously disagree with their parents, experts suggest that
parents should ______.
A. punish them
B. let them live away from their family
C. send for a teacher
D. keep them in the house
67. In the third paragraph the word“ structured” means ______.
A. built
B. stuck
C. organized
D. drunk
68. In history, ______.
A. teens never left their families
B. teens often left their parents
C. teens never went to school
D. teens never make friends with each other
C
When you cut your skin, you bleed(流血). If a person loses a lot of blood, he
will become ill and may die. Blood is very important. People have always known that.
At one time, some people even drank blood to make them strong!
When doctors understand how blood goes around inside the body, they try ways
of giving blood to people who need it. They take blood from the healthy people and give it to people who need it. This is called "blood transfusion". The blood goes
from the arm of the healthy person into the arm of the sick person.
But there are two problems. First, it does not always work. Sometimes people
die when they have blood transfusion. Later, doctors find that we do not all have
the same kind of blood. There are four groups—O, A, B and AB. We all have blood
of one of these groups. They also find that they can give any kind of blood to people of group AB. But they find that they must give A-group blood to A-group people and B-group blood to B-group people. I have O-group blood and the doctor told me that
I could give blood to anyone else safely.
There is another problem. To give blood of the right kind, doctors have to find a person of the right blood group. Often they can not find a person in time. If
they have a way to keep the blood until someone needs it, they can always have the right kind of blood. At first they find they can keep it in bottles for fifteen
to twenty days. They do this by making it very cold. Then they find how to keep
it longer. In the end they find a way of keeping blood for a very long time.
We call a place where we keep money a "bank". We call a place where we keep
blood a "blood bank". One day, when you grow up, you may decide to give blood to
a "blood bank". In this way you may stop someone from dying. Or perhaps one day
you may become ill. You may need blood. The "blood bank" will give it to you.
69. From the passage, we learn that sometimes people die when they have blood
transfusions because they.
A. are unhealthy people
B. have lost a lot of blood
C. are not given the right kind of blood
D. are AB-group people
70.Which of the following is true?
A.Doctors can give any kind of blood to the writer.
B.The writer can give blood to B-group people.
C.The writer has never had a blood transfusion.
D.The writer has the same kind of blood as his father.
71.From the last paragraph (段落) of the passage, we learn that.
A.the writer thinks it's good to give blood to a "blood bank"
B.we may become ill if we give blood to a "blood bank"
C.many people died because they lost a lot of blood
D.blood is more important than money
72.The writer doesn't talk about in the passage. .
A.how important blood is to us
B.the four groups of blood
C.where the blood bank is
D.what "blood transfusion" is
D.
Americans with small families own a small car or a large one. If both parents
are working, they usually have two cars. When the family is large, one of the cars is sold and they will buy a van(住宅汽车 )
A small car can hold( 容纳 )four persons and a large car can hold six persons but it is very crowded. A van can hold seven persons easily, so if there are three
children in a family, they could ask their grandparents to go on a holiday to travel. They could all travel together.
Mr.Hagen and his wife had a third child last year. This made them sell a second car and buy a van. Their children’ s sixth and seventh seat are used to put other
things, for a family of five must carry many suitcases(衣箱 )when they travel. When they arrive at their grandparents’ home , the suitcases are brought into the house and the two seats can then carry the grandparents.
Americans call vans motor homes. A motor home is always used for holidays. When a family are traveling to the mountains or to the seaside, they can live in their
motor home for a few days or to the seaside, they can live in their motor home for a few days or weeks. All the members of a big family can enjoy a happier life when
they are traveling together. That is why motor homes have become very popular. In
America there are many parks for motor homes.

a motor car B. a motor home C. a motorbike D. a big truck
