Georgina, known as Georgie, will turn 16 later this week and organiz ed the party with two friends. Her mother said they had originally looked at the choice of booking a nightclub, but decided the £1,000 fee was too expensive. She said, “It seemed that realistically the only place Geor gina could have her party was at home.”
Georgie’s parents had grown-ups to be in charge, a proper guest list, and a ban on alcohol. So they thought they had her 16th birthday party under control. Unfortunately, it was advertised on Facebook.
Around 400 uninvited guests stormed into the family’s townhouse in Brighton on Saturday and gatecrashed (擅自参加) the event. They violen tly forced their way past the adults on duty, breaking light bulbs, knockin g over plants and tearing up the garden. Twelve police cars had to be cal led in to send them on their way. The troublemakers were the Facebook Republican Army, a group who look for teenage parties to crash through social networking sites.
Yesterday Georgie’s mother, Sylvia Meli, said to the newspaper repo rter, “It was an absolute horror show. The garden has been ruined and t he grass is just mud. I’ll never have a party for my daughter here again.
I think Facebook is a major cause, as well as texting.”
A gatecrasher said this is just the kind of party they like to gatecras h. They’re in their late teens and early 20s and they are quite intimidati ng. When they turn up at a teenage party they know that no one will da re to say anything to them so they can do what they want. Once they’v e found a party they put the word out through texts and news spreads fa st.
A Sussex police spokesman said, “There was a sea of people, and i t was difficult to move, which was a major safety problem that required a lot of police time and resources.”Mrs Meli added, “I do understand at that age they have nowhere to go because they couldn’t go to clubs.
But invading someone else’s party and wasting police time and money i s not the answer.”
24. What made Georgie’s parents give up holding the party at a ni ghtclub?
A. The limited time.
B. The high cost.
C. The safety problem.
D. The noisy atmosphere.
25. What can we know about Georgie’s mother?
A. She regretted holding the party at home.
B. She has disadvantaged backgrounds.
C. She arranged the party with Georgie.
D. She throws a birthday party for Georgie yearly.
26. What does the underlined word “intimidating”in Paragraph 5 mean?
A. Ambitious.
B. Curious.
C. Enthusiastic.
D. Frigh tening.
27. What’s Mrs. Meli’s attitude towards the Facebook Republican Army?
A. Supportive.
B. Negative.
C. Concerned.

Solar energy, which comes from the sun’s rays, is used for electricit y, hot water, and cooking. The sun’s rays come from the faraway sun. When traveling a long way and entering the earth’s atmosphere, it beco mes dilute (稀薄的). As is known to all, solar energy is environmentally friendly. 36
Let’s start with the simple advantage of solar energy. 37
To make electricity or heat with solar energy you only need the sun’s r ays and don’t use oil. Solar energy is cheaper compared with electric he ating. 38 If you live in a faraway area where there are no p ower-lines, using solar energy can be the answer.
Even though all of the above is very useful, solar energy also has so me disadvantages. The main disadvantage of solar energy is that it’s dilu te. This means you have to have many solar collectors fixed around your house. 39 Another disadvantage is that not all the places so lar energy can be produced. If you’re living in a part of this beautiful p lanet where there is not much sunlight, then using solar energy could be a problem. Of course if you live in desert areas, the sun produces much sunshine for the most part of the year and it is ideal for solar energy col lecting. 40 Therefore if you need electricity or hot water duri ng the night, like many of us do, it can be a problem. You’ll need batt ery systems that can store solar energy for later use.
A. Solar energy is clean.
B. The sun has much energy.
C. Lastly, the sun only shines during the day.
D. That is another big advantage of solar energy.
E. Fixing solar collectors in your home is a good choice for you.
F. Solar energy may be cheap but the solar collectors are expensive.
G. But in fact, it has not only some advantages but also some disad vantages.

Dear David,
I’m Li Hua, one of your students. I’m writing to tell you there’l l be an English drama competition in our school, which aims to attract st udents’interest in learning English. On behalf of the Students’Union, I invite you to the competition as a judge.
The competition will be held at 8 a.m. on November 13th i n the school lecture hall. As a judge, you are expected to give scores to each group according to their pronunciation and performance. And after th eir performance, we hope you can make comments on their presentation. We would appreciate it if you could give us some suggestions.
Looking forward to your reply and your presence at the competition.
Yours,
