Over a quarter of American adults now read news on their cell phones, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center. The survey results released by the group on Monday offer another sign of how people are changing the way they get information.
Technology has been reshaping the news business and the way consumers relate to it for more than a decade. The latest change is being driven by the exploding popularity of phones that can easily access the Internet. Pew doesn’t have comparable data for say, two or three years ago. But evidence of the shift in habits can be seen in this finding: about 43 percent of those under 50 said they are mobile news consumers, compared with 15 percent of older respondents.
Still, some things don’t change. Readers’No. 1 c oncern when they look for news on their phones is the weather. Of the 37 percent of cell phone owners who said they use the Internet on their phones, 72 percent said they check weather reports. Current events came in second, with 68 percent. And the last one is entertainment.
Pew’s survey offered a wide range of statistics on people’s news-reading habits. It showed people are not relying on just one medium. Just 60 percent of respondents get news from both online and offline sources. And 46 percent said they use four to six different types of media on a typical day. The web is also helping to turn the news into more of a social experience: more than 80 percent of respondents get or receive news via emailed links. The results were based on telephone interviews with 2,259 people over the age of 18. For questions to that entire group, the margin (幅度) of error was 2.3 percentage points. On questions to just Internet users, the margin was 2.7 percentage points.
25. Why do American adults choose to read news on their cell phones according to the text?
A. They want to change the way they get information.
B. They want to look fashionable.
C. Their cell phones can easily access the Internet.
D. Reading news on a cell phone is free.
26. It can be inferred from the second paragraph that ____.
A. older cell phone owners are more likely to get news on their phones
B. younger cell phone owners are more likely to get news on their phones
C. older cell phone owners never get news on their phones
D. about 58 percent of American adults get news on their phones
27. Which is the right order for the viewed contents, in terms of importance?
A. Weather>current events>films.
B. Weather>films>current events.
C. Current events>weather>films.
D. Current events>films>weather.
C
Even before my father left us, my mother had to go back to work to support our family.
Once I came out of the kitchen, complaining, “Mom, I can't peel (削皮)potatoes. I have only one hand.” Mom never looked up from sewing. “You get yourself into that kitchen and peel those potatoes,” she told me, “And don't ever use that as an excuse for anything again !”
In the second grade, our teacher lined up my class on the playground and had each of us race across the monkey bars(攀登架), swinging from one high steel rod to the next. When it was my turn, I shook my head. Some kids behind me laughed, and I went home crying.
That night I told Mom about it. She hugged me, and I saw her “we'll see about that” look. The ne xt afternoon, she took me back to school. At the deserted playground, Mom looked carefully at the bars.
“Now, pull up with your right arm,” she advised. She stood by as I struggled to lift myself with my right hand until I could hook the bar with my other elbow. Day after day we practiced and she praised me for every rung(横档) I reached.
I'll never forget the next time, crossing the rungs. I looked down at the kids who were standing with their mouths open.
One night, after a dance at my new junior high, I lay in bed sobbing.
I could hear Mom come into my room. “Mom,” I said, weeping, “None of the boys would dance with me.”
For a long time, I didn't hear anything. Then she said, “Oh, honey, someday you'll be beating those boys off with a bat. " Her voice was faint and cracking. I peeked out from my covers to see tears running down her cheeks. Then I knew how much she suffered from my disability. She had never let me see her tears.
28.Which of the following expressions can be used most suitably to describe Mom's attitude when she made the child peel potatoes?
A. Cruel.
B. Rude.
C. Strict.
D. Cold.
29.From the passage, we know monkey bars can help a child
train____________.
A. the skill to throw and catch things
B. the speed of one's hand
movement
C. the strength and skill to hang and swing
D. the bodily skill to go round a bar.
30.What does the underlined sentence “I saw her 'we'll see about that’ look.” imply?
A. Mom believed every aim could be achieved if you stuck to it.
B. The race across monkey bars was not difficult enough for a child to give up.
C. Mom was determined to prove she herself was better than the teacher.
D. What the child had said brought Mom great attraction and curiosity.
31.When the author looked down at the kids, they were standing with their mouths open because __________.
A. they felt sorry for what they had done before
B. they were afraid the author might fall off and get hurt
C. they wanted to see what the author would do on the bars
D. they were astonished to find the author's progress
D
How about a carpet that can guide you to your bedroom
during nighttime without ever turning on the lights
or protect your toes during a fast trip to the bathroom? Well, you could buy the next best thing, an electroluminescent rug (场致发光地毯) which lights up while you walk on it. This would surely be one of the future floor fashion devices found in everyone’s home. However, you will have to wait a bit before it will be marketed.
The new rug called Footlume was developed by Leona Dean and Zoe Robson, two engineering students from the London South Bank University. It makes use of rechargeable batteries which power the lights of the rug. The rug produces light through electroluminescence which uses electric fields to emit (发出) visible light.
Other means to produce light involve photoluminescence (光致发光) which uses substances that absorb light to experience an excited state after which light is re-emitted into the medium, and chemoluminescence (化学发光) which produces light during chemical reactions between light- -producing substances.
“It could be helpful as a child’s night light, to help the elderly to find their way in the dark, or even to light the way to bed after a night in the bar without waking up your partner. It is pressure-operated and runs on very little power from rechargeab le batteries, and it can be used anywhere in the home,” said co-inventor Leona Dean.
When asked how the two inventors got the idea for the product, they said, “We often use our mobile phones to light our way in the dark. By using the same light source, electroluminescent panel (显示板) and transferring it into a pressure activated rug, we have created an energy efficient alternative to turning on a light switch.”
The new rug is expected to be exhibited this month at the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show in London.
32. According to the passage, the new rug will give out light _____.
A. after turning on the switch on it
B. only when humans step on it
C. as long as the room is dark enough
D. whenever pressure is applied to it
33. Which of the following produces light by using electric fields?
A. Chemoluminescence.
B. Photoluminescence.
C. Electroluminescence.
D. Bioluminescence.
34. What can we learn about Footlume from Paragraph 5?
A. Its inspiration came from the mobile phone.
B. It is taking the place of light switches.
C. It relies on photoluminescence technology.
D. It requires a lot of energy.
35. How does the author probably feel about the new rug?
A. It needs some improvement.
B. It has a bright future.
C. It can’t be very popular.
D. It is a waste of energy.第二节(共5个小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

It's useful and necessary to discuss learning habits. In reality, different students have different learning habits, which I think influence their learning efficiency greatly. Good habits always lead to high efficiency, while bad ones bring the opposite.
Some students are good at concentrating on what the teachers teach in class. They think only in this way can they understand and memorize the teaching materials better. If we find those materials interesting we'll focus our attention on them for long. However, those dull lessons require our determination, selfcontrolling ability and confidence.
My classmates always call me “Mr. forgetful”, because I cannot memorize those I have learnt. I know that it is because I don't spend some time in memorizing them after class. My teachers advise me to repeat the materials several times and read them aloud, which they think will improve my memory.。
