Greet the class as usual and check the homework.
Ask students to read the new words first.Then teach the new words and make sure students know the meanings.

Ask students to work in pairs and do activity 1a.

Read the title of the text.Then circle the words and phrases you think you will read in the pasage.Then pare your predictions with your partners.

Look at the title and picture,and predict what you will read about.
This helps you get a ready to acquire new information.Play the tape for students and ask students to read the text.

Goal:Review how to make predictions using more,fewer, and less.
Materials:Paper,pencil,and chalk
Procedure:
Before class,prepare cue cards with two sentences on each.The first sentence is a simple statement about a current situation.The second sentence is a prediction about the future with a blank where students must fill in the word more,fewer or e situations and vocabulary words that are familiar to students.For example:
We had a lot of rain this week.We will have__________rain next week.
There are six shoe stores in our town.There will be__________shoe stores in the future.There is a lot of pollution now.There will be__________pollution in the future.
Situations for more/less:leisure time,good weather,homework,fun,hard work
Situations for more/fewer:houses,dogs,movie theaters,good restaurants,new buildings,books,cars
Divide the class into two teams.Place the cue cards in a paper bag.Write the words more,fewer,and less on the board.Ask a student on Team A to take a card and read it aloud to the class,filling in the word more,fewer or less.
Then continue with a student on Team B,and so on.Each correct answer is worth one point.。
