in f c is required an external clock can be used to drive the CLK R input of the MF6.This input is TTL logic level compatible and also presents a very light load to the external clock source (z 2µA)with split supplies and L.Sh tied to system ground.The logic level is programmed by the voltage applied to level shift (L.Sh)pin (See the Pin description for L.Sh pin).1.2POWER SUPPLY BIASINGThe MF6can be biased from a single supply or dual split supplies.The split supply mode shown in Figure 2and Fig-ure 3is the most flexible and easiest to implement.As dis-cussed earlier split supplies,±5V to ±7V,will enable the use of TTL or CMOS clock logic levels.Figure 4shows two schemes for single supply biasing.In this mode only CMOS clock logic levels can be used.1.3OFFSET ADJUSTThe VosADJ pin is used in adjusting the output offset level of the filter section.If this pin is not used it must be tied to the analog ground (AGND)level,either mid-supply for single ended supply operation or ground for split supply operation.This pin sets the zero reference for the output of the filter.The implementation of this pin can be seen in Figure 5.In Figure 5a ,DC offset is adjusted using a potentiometer;in Figure 5b ,the Op-Amp integrator circuit keeps the average DC output level at AGND.The circuit in Figure 5b is therefore appropriate only for AC-coupled signals and signals biased at AGND.1.4INPUT IMPEDANCEThe MF6lowpass filter input (FILTER IN pin)is not a high im-pedance buffer input.This input is a switched capacitor re-sistor equivalent,and its effective impedance is inversely proportional to the clock frequency.The equivalent circuit of the input to the filter can be seen in Figure 6.The input ca-pacitor charges to the input voltage (V in )during one half of the clock period,during the second half the charge is trans-ferred to the feedback capacitor.The total transfer of charge in one clock cycle is therefore Q =C in V in ,and since current is defined as the flow gain error for the MF6is±0.3dBwith a R s≤2kΩthe actual gain error for this case would be+0.21dB to−0.39dB.1.5CUTOFF FREQUENCY RANGEThe filter’s cutoff frequency(f c)has a lower limit caused byleakage currents through the internal switches dischargingthe stored charge on the capacitors.At lower clock frequen-cies these leakage currents can cause millivolts of error,forexample:The propagation delay in the logic and the settling time re-quired to acquire a new voltage level on the capacitors in-creases as the MF6power supply voltage decreases.Thiscauses a shift in the f CLK/f c ratio which will become notice-able when the clock frequency exceeds250kHz.The ampli-tude characteristic will stay within tolerance until f CLK ex-ceeds500kHz and will peak at about0.5dB at the cornerfrequency with verifying that a single MF6section will beadequate.Since the MF6’s cutoff frequency f c,which corresponds to again attenuation of−3.01dB,was not specified in this ex-ample it needs to be calculated.Solving equation2wheref=f c as follows:To implement this example for the MF6-50the clock fre-quency will have to be set to f CLK=50(1.116kHz)=55.8kHz or for the MF6-100f CLK=100(1.116kHz)=111.6kHz.2.2CASCADING MF6sIn the case where a steeper stopband attenuation rate is re-quired two MF6’s can be cascaded(Figure12)yielding a12th order slope of72dB per octave.Because the MF6is aButterworth filter and therefore has no ripple in its passband,when MF6s are cascaded the resulting filter also has noripple in its passband.Likewise the DC and passband gainswill remain at1V/V.The resulting response is shown inFigures13,14.In determining whether the cascaded MF6s will yield a filterthat will meet a particular amplitude response specification,as Op-Amps,available in the MF6,and three external resistors.The circuit and amplitude response are shown in Figures 15,16.The frequency where the “notch”will occur is equal to the frequency at which the output signal of the MF6will have the same magnitude but be 180degrees out of phase with its in-put signal.For a sixth order Butterworth filter 180˚phase shift occurs where f =f n =0.742f c .The attenuation at this frequency is 0.12dB which must be compensated for by making R 1=1.014x R 2.Since R 1does not equal R 2there will be a gain inequality above and below the notch frequency.At frequencies below the notch frequency (f <<f n ),the signal through the filter has a gain of one and is non-inverting.Summing this with the input signal through the Op-Amp yields an overall gain of two or +6dB.For f >>f n ,the signal at the output of the filter is greatly attenuated thus only the input signal will appear at the output of the Op-Amp.With R 3=R 1=1.014R 2the over-all gain is frequency (f CLK ).When the in-put signal contains a component at a frequency higher than half the clock frequency,as in Figure 19a ,that component will be “reflected”about f CLK /2into the frequency range be-low f CLK /2as in Figure 19b .If this component is within thepassband of the filter and of large enough amplitude it can cause problems.Therefore if frequency components in the input signal exceed f CLK /2they must be attenuated before being applied to the MF6input.The necessary amount of at-tenuation will vary depending on system requirements.In critical applications the signal components above f CLK /2will have to be attenuated at least to the filter’s residual noise level.An example circuit is shown in Figure 20using one of the uncommitted Op-Amps available in the Read this sheet before you use the pressure module. This sheet contains specifications and information about how to avoid damaging the pressure module. See specification footnote 1.The pressure module measures pressure using an internal microprocessor. It receives operating power from and sends digital information to the 700 Series calibrator.Gage pressure modules have one pressure fitting and measure pressure with respect to atmospheric pressure.Differential pressure modules have two pressure fittings and measure the difference between the applied pressure on the high fitting versus the low fitting. A differential pressure module functions like a gage module when the low fitting is open.Box ContentsPressure module, strap, 1/4 NPT to 1/4 ISO metric adapters,instruction sheet.Protecting Yourself from Pressure ReleasesTo avoid a violent release of pressure in a pressurized system, shut off the isolation valve and slowly bleed off the pressure before you attach or remove the pressure module from the pressure line.Avoiding Mechanical DamageTo avoid damaging the pressure module, never apply more than 10 ft.-lbs. of torque between the pressure module fittings or between the fittings and the body of the module. Always apply appropriate torque between the pressure module fitting and connecting fittings or adapters. Figure 1 shows the correct way and incorrect ways to use a wrench when applying torque to the pressure module fitting.1981Figure 1.Avoiding Overpressure DamageApplying pressure in excess of the BURST PRESSURE specified on the pressure module can destroy the pressure module. Burst pressure is 3X full scale.Avoiding Corrosion DamageTo avoid damaging the pressure module from corrosion, use it only with specified media as shown below:•High: any medium that is compatible with type 316 stainless steel.•Low: dry, noncorrosive gasses only.Recommended Measurement TechniqueFor best results, it is recommended that the module be pressurized to full scale and then vented to zero pressure (atmosphere) prior to zeroing and making measurements.NoteLow range pressure modules may be sensitive togravity. For best results, pressure modules 30 psiand below should be held at the same physicalorientation from the time they are zeroed until themeasurement is complete.Pressure Calibration KitThe Fluke-700PCK Pressure Calibration Kit makes it possible to calibrate pressure modules at ambient temperature with a precision pressure calibrator better than the module specification. A 386 or better PC and Windows® 3.1 or later are required. The kit is an optional accessory available from your distributor or Fluke.Performance TestIf you need to check that the pressure module meets its accuracy specification, use a dead weight tester or suitable pressure calibrator. The accuracy of the dead weight tester or pressure calibrator should be significantly better than the700P2X Series pressure specification. Proceed as follows to verify that a pressure module is operating within specification:1. Read the pressure value with no externally appliedpressure to make sure the 0% of scale is correct. When reading the pressure, press the ZERO key to removeany zero offset.NoteThe pressure ZERO function is available on Fluke-701 and Fluke-702 calibrators with V1.3 or highersoftware. Contact your Fluke Service Center forupgrade of earlier calibrators.2. Connect the pressure module to a dead weight tester.3. Set the dead weight tester to 20% of the pressuremodule’s full scale value.4. Make sure the reading agrees with the dead weighttester value within the specification in Table 1.5. Set the dead weight tester to 40, 60, 80, and 100% offull scale and compare the respective readings.6. When reinstalling plug, torque to 14-16 Nm (10-12 FT -LBS.)Loosen and remove bowl.Remove element by twisting inside bowl clockwise approximately 10°. This disengages the hook on thepermanent core assembly which locks the element into the bowl.Element can now be pulled frombowl assembly.
