二、阅读理解
Consider yourself warned. Sunday is April Fools' Day, a day when you are encouraged to play tricks on loved ones and even the people you meet at the bus
stop. It's a strange tradition, but how did it get started? Nobody is completely sure about the origin of this, the silliest of holidays. However, the urban legend experts at Snopes. com say that most experts owe it to Pope Gregory X Ⅲ , who, in the 1500s, gave the world the Gregorian calendar. In 1562, the Gregorian calendar moved the first day of the year from April l
to January l. Word did eventually get around, but some people were a bit slow
to hear the news. These folks continued celebrating the new year on April that they were now three months behind the times. These "April fools"
l ,
were
unaware
tricked
by those who knew it. The tradition eventually made its way to the US.
And it's still going strong. Over the past week, Web searches on " April Fools' Day
jokes" and " April Fools' Day tricks" have more than doubled, and related
lookups for "easy April Fools' Day tricks" and "April Fools' Day jokes for work"

somebody offers you a word search puzzle. Lookups for "impossible April Fools'
Day word searches" are up by 200%.
But really, there is no way to be certain you'll escape trickery because even
companies are out to trick you on April l. In 1957, the BBC reported Swiss farmers were harvesting spaghetti(意大利面) from trees. And in 1996, Taco Bell took
out ads in major newspapers announcing that the company had purchased the Liberty
Bell and renamed it the Taco Liberty Bell.

While the other kids seemed excited about celebrating the end-of-term party
by playing games and sharing treats, Jeremy hated the very idea of the gathering.
Afraid to raise the pressure too high, I decided to contribute something
was easy to purchase on the walk to school.
Off we went the day of the party, approaching his school as if nothing was
planned. I reminded him of our need to make a purchase, entered his favorite and asked him to select the ripest bunch of grapes. He shot me an anxious look
and insisted none of his classmates ever be able to notice he had something to
bring to the party. My vision of a successful parenting method, resulting in
that shop,
delivering a sociable child to his school, diverted(转移)sharply from reality.
Back on route, I did my best to hide the sinking feeling of fear. How could
I possibly drop him off and then walk into my own classroom to teach a successful
class?
My next move was born in the heat of the moment. I said a quick goodbye at
the front gate and rushed to his classroom through the emergency exit. I managed
to inform his teacher about the grapes in the backpack and be out of the classroom
before I could be spied by my son.
So, what happened on that June day? His teacher, a caring educator, worked
wonders. My son and I still laugh about the way Mr. B started the day with an unusual
question, “ Does anyone have any grapes? ” While Jeremy admits feeling a bit uncomfortable, the words encouraged him to takeout the fruit. Because of the support he received, he remembers that day with pride for his courage.

There are a lot public holidays for Chinese people, such as National Day, May
Day, and Children’ s Day. But I think we should have other holiday——Farmers’Day. Firstly,China is a agricultural country.Farmers really play a very importantly role in China. They provide food for us, without which we cannot to
live. Secondly, farmers offered a lot to the development of industry. Lastly of
all, most farmers work hard, with little time to enjoy themselves. Some people
look down upon farmers so they think farmers do not have many knowledge. I suggest
that there should be a Farmers ’Day to show respect for these 900 millions farmers
in China.
五、阅读填空
It is not easy to find true friends.Even if you ’ ve connected with someone, how do you really know he is a true friend? And often you will find that someone
who you thought you could trust may have let you down. There are ways you can know
if a friendship is true and how you can hold onto that friend.Generally speaking,a true friend is someone who will be there for you no matter
what happens. They will stand by you through bad and good times . They will accept
you for who you are without trying to change you,and they will be there to help
you grow in new ways.
A true friend will keep you secrets for you trust him. They will be honest and
be someone you can depend on.They will listen and be someone you can talk things
over with, even if they may not have advice to share with you. However, friendship is a two-way street. To find true friends and keep them, you must in turn be the same as well. Be there for them in their hard times and share
the good times with them.Be someone your friends can depend on as well and offer
them the same thing they give to you. A friendship will fall apart fast if only
one person is giving and putting all the effort. If you are the only one making
an effort, be honest and it works.Actually, there will be barriers in the road but that is the test of true friendship. If it can survive those
, it will be stronger and better than
barriers

Dear editor, Recently some scholars think that“ the rush of English learning” has influenced
the learning of Chinese. As far as this topic is concerned, different people have
different opinions. I’ d like to share mine with you.
It’ s known to all that English is the most widely-used language in the world.
Learning English can help us to communicate with people from foreign countries.
We can also get a lot of information through English , helping us to know more
about the outside world.
But Chinese is our mother tongue . In China, we can’ t go without it.We need
to use it to communicate and do a lot of things. So we must, first of all, learn
Chinese well.
Yours sincerely
Li Hua。
