Which of the following is a traditional exhibition without using digital technology?A. The Statue of Liberty MuseumB. 'Cycling in the City'C. 'She Persists: A Century of Women Artists in New York City'D. Museum of the DogBJacob and Wilhelm Grimm were two young men from Germany who loved a good story. As university students, they became interested in folktales—traditional stories that people memorized and told again and again. They began to collect traditional folktales from storytellers all over Germany. Many were similar to stories told in France, Italy, Japan, and other countries.Between 1812 and 1814,the brothers published two books in German. These included stories like "Hansel and Gretel" and "Little Red Riding Hood."Despite the fact that Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm are often associated with Snow White and Rapunzel, the brothers didn’t actually write any of those stories. In fact, the stories existed long before the two men were born in Germany in the mid 1780s. The fairy tales, in fact, were part of a rich oral tradition—passed down from generation to generation, often by women seeking to pass the time during household chores. In 1812, Jacob and Wilhelm published the stories as part of a collection titled Nursery and Household Tales,or what is now known as Grimm’s Fairy Tales. The Grimm brothers' tales were about traditional life and beliefs. For example, forests are common in Germany, and this image often appears in the Grimms' stories. In the past, many people believed forests were dangerous places. In the Grimms' stories, a forest is the home of evil witches, talking animals, and other magical beings.Although most people today think of these stories as fairy tales for children, the brothers first wrote them for adults. Many of their early tales were dark and a little ter,the brothers changed the text of some of the original stories. They "softened" many of the tales and added drawings. This made them more appropriate(合适的)for children. Like the early tales, though, each story still has a moral: work hard, be good, and listen to your parents.Actually, university-trained philologists (语言学者) and librarians, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published more than fairy tales. They wrote books about mythology, and published scholarly works on linguistics and medieval studies.24. What is the main purpose of the reading?A . To compare the Grimms’ stories to modern children's stores.B .To explain why storytelling is important in Germany.C . To examine two of the Grimms' fairy tales.D . To give information about the Grimm brothers and their stories.25.Which of these statements is true about the Grimm brothers?A . They invented the fairy tales in their books.B . They wrote their books in different languages.C . They became interested in folktales as students.D . They traveled to many countries to collect stories.26.Which of the following best explains “moral” underlined in Paragraph 4 ?A. interestB. textC. storyD. message27.What do we know about the Grimms' stories?A .The later stories had morals, like the early ones.B .The early stories were written for children.C .The early stories had a lot of drawings.D .The later stories reflected German life, but the early ones didn't.CCan you imagine digging in your yard one day and finding a life-sized soldier made completely of clay? That's what happened several decades ago when farmers in Xi'an,China, were digging wells.Archaeologists(考古学家)have since found about 6,000 more of these soldiers, along with horses, weapons, tools, and other artifacts. The huge army was meant to protect the tomb of the first ruler of China. The first emperor of China, Qin Shihuang, accomplished a huge amount during his rule. Between 221 and 210 B.C., he started the construction of the Great Wall. He built a large network of roads. He introduced a new writing system, currency(货币), and a set of measurements. The emperor also ordered the construction of a huge army of life-sized terracotta soldiers. These, he hoped, would protect his tomb after his death. The soldiers in Xi'an's terracotta museum are today light brown, but they weren't always. They began as an army of red, blue, yellow, green, white, and purple. Sadly, most of the colors did not last to the present day. After being exposed to air during excavation(挖掘), the coating under the paint began to fall off. The paint disappeared in less time than it takes to boil an egg, taking with it important pieces of history. Now new techniques are starting to reveal the army's true colors. Archaeologists have recently discovered an area with more than a hundred soldiers. Many of these still have their painted features, including black hair, pink faces, and black or brown eyes.Chinese and German researchers have developed a special liquid to help preserve the soldiers' colors. After they find a soldier or other artifacts(手工艺品), archaeologists spray it with the liquid. They then cover it in plastic. Archaeologists are also finding colors in the dirt around the soldiers. It's important not to disturb the dirt,so the colors won't be lost."We are treating the earth as an artifact,"says archeologist Rong Bo, the museum's leading chemist. The next challenge, says Rong, is to find a way to apply the colors to the army again.Once that happens, artists can bring Emperor Qin's army back to life in full, vivid color.28. The terracotta soldiers were constructed to _________.A.show the outside world about China’s greatnessB. be enjoyed by everyday peopleC. frighten China’s enemiesD. prote ct Emperor Qin’s tomb29. What is the main idea of the third paragraph?A. The soldiers lost their colors very quickly.B. The soldiers’ paint fell off because of the high temperature.C. Visitors to the museum are not actually seeing the real soldiers.D. Being exposed to water is bad for the soldiers.30. What have archaeologists recently discovered?A. A place with over a hundred soldiers.B. A writt en description of the soldiers’ true colors.C. A special liquid in the tomb to preserve the soldiers’ colors.D. A new tomb for Emperor Qin.31. Which statement would Rong Bo probably agree with?A. The soldiers should stay in their current, brown color.B. Artists should be able to paint the soldiers in any color they want.C. Archaeologists can only guess at the soldiers’ original colors.D. We should try to restore the army’s vivid colors.DHerman Melvile, the writer of the famous whale story Moby Dick, once wrote that humpback whales were “the most lighthearted of all the whales.” Known to be intelligent animals and can be seen working together to hunt schools of small fish, humpbacks are a favorite of whale watchers everywhere. And, if you listen closely, you might even hear one singing.Marine (海洋)biologist Jim Darling has studied the songs of humpback whales for more than 25 years. While recording whale songs on a boat near Hawaii, he invited author Douglas Chadwick to experience diving with a humpback. In the water, Chadwick heard the whale’s songs in a way he never heard them before. “Suddenly, I no longer heard the whale’s voice in my ears,” he said. “I felt it inside my head and bones.”When swimmi ng with the whale, Chadwick could see that the whale was aware of him, but not alarmed by his presence.Up in the boat, Darling recorded the whale’s song, which can be long and complex, sometimes lasting for 30 minutes or more. Actually, they are perhaps the longest songs sung by any animal.Darling says that only male humpbacks sing, but for unknown reasons, it was previously thought that they sang to attract females, but scientists showed this was incorrect when they played recordings of whale songs in the ocean and the female whales did not respond. Another idea is thatmale humpbacks compete with each other using songs, just as other male animals on land do using their horns or sharp teeth.Researchers have also found that humpback whale songs are different in different parts of the world, perhaps like whale national songs. They may also be like hit tunes on the radio, changing over time---- from one year to the next, or even over a single breeding season when they produce young.Another member of the research team, photographer Flip Nicklin, recalls a special moment he had while interacting with a humpback. While he was snorkeling(潜水) some distance from the huge animal, it approached him until it was just a few metres away. It then gently carried Nicklin towards its eye with a flipper(鳍肢), as if examine him. Obviously, the urge to understand a different species goes both ways.32. What is this passage mainly about?A. How to record the humpbacks in the ocean.B. How humpbacks communicate with people.C. Humpback songs and what they might mean.D. the career of a man who is interested in humpbacks.33. When the scientists played songs in the ocean,______ .A. the songs attracted fishB. no female whales cameC. male whales became angryD. male and female whales came together34. What is NOT true about humpback whales?A. Their songs are short and simple.B. Only male humpback whales sing.C. Humpback whales are very friendly.D. They are popular with whale watchers.35. What do Chadwick and Nicklin have in common?A. They were afraid of whales.B. They swam with the whales.C. Their jobs are to take photos of the whales.D. They are marine biologists studying whales.第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

But it is true that kung fu is a big part of Chinese culture.Like most people from the West,I was first introduced to kung fu through Hong Kong action films.Stars like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan made kung fu popular in the Western world. The flashy and impressive performances they gave in films like Rumble in the Bronx and Enter the Dragon made them household names in the U.S.and elsewhere. However,my own personal interest in kung fu was actually inspired by a hip hop group.Wu-Tang Clan, founded in the early 1990s in New York City,is one of the most influential hip hop groups in history. In their songs, they sometimes mention philosophical concepts that come from Wudang quan—a classic Chinese martial art(武术)from which they take their name—and Shaolin Temple.I was just a teenager when I first started listening to Wu-Tang Clan—little did I know that I would actually end up living in China later in my life!I myself do not practice kung fu.However, the concepts(理念)behind it are quite interesting to me.There is a Bruce Lee quote that I often think of when I’m struggling with challenges in life.“Be formless, shapeless, like water,”he once said.By this,he meant that you should be ready to adapt to and change your attitudes or beliefs when you face difficulties.I think this is a good way to deal with life.24.What does “a silly belief” in Paragraph 1 refer to?A.All Chinese people can do kung fu.B.China is most famous for its kung fu.C.Kung fu is a big part of Chinese culture.D.Many Westerners admire kung fu.25.What inspired the author’s interest in kung fu?A.Hong Kong action movies.B.A TV program about kung fu.C.Kung fu stars in Hollywood.D.A US hip hop group.26.What do we know about the Wu-Tang Clan?A.They have Chinese culture in their songs.B.They taught the author how to do Wudang quan.C.They performed Chinese martial arts in the U.S.D.They showed the author the way to live in China.27.What can we learn from the last paragraph?A.The author was sorry that he couldn’t do kung fu.B.The concepts of kung fu change over time.C.The spirit of kung fu helps the author overcome difficulties.D.Bruce Lee was the most popular martial arts master.CIn October,I told the eight-year-olds in the class I taught about my plan.“I’d like all of you to do extra jobs around the house to earn some money,”I said.“Then we’ll buy food for a dinner for someone who might not have a nice dinner otherwise.”I hoped th ey could experience a sense of their own power to make a difference.Early in the morning, they arrived in class with their hard-earned money. And now they couldn’t wait to go shopping. At last we headed toward the checkout(收银台),pushing a cart(购物车)filled with food and all the decorations. Then someone spotted(发现)a “necessity”that sent them cheering:a pot of chrysanthemums(菊花).It was more reasonable to use any extra money to buy food. After all,I pronounced,“You can’t eat flowers.”But the children insisted and placed the purple plant into the cart.An agency had given us the name and address of a needy grandmother who had lived alone for years.Soon we were arriving at her house.Between the laughing and those flowers,I wasn’t sure that any lesson about giving and receiving was getting through. We finally pulled up in front of a small house in the woods.A woman with a tired face came to the door to welcome us.As my little group carried the boxes of food in,she oohed and aahed—much to her visitors’pleasure. When Amy put the flowers on the counter, the woman seemed surprised. She was wishing it was a bag of flour,I thought. We returned to the car.As we fastened our seat belts(安全带),we could see the kitchen window. The woman inside waved goodbye, then turned and walked across the room, past the food, straight to the chrysanthemums. She put her face in the plant. When she raised her head, there was a smile on her face. The children were quiet. In that moment, they had seen for themselves the power to make another’s life better.28.The author gave the students the task in order to ________.A.help them focus on their family happinessB.let them experience their ability to help othersC.teach them the necessity of doing houseworkD.get them to know how to be financially independent29.What’s the author’s attitude to buying some flowers at first?A.Positive.B.Negative.C.Cautious.D.Enthusiastic.30.What did the children realize at the end of the visit?A.They could help improve others’life.B.They could make a living by working.C.It was necessary to do voluntary work.D.Plants and birds could help lonely people.31.What is the best title for the text?A.My Teaching CareerB.How to Help Poor PeopleC.The Importance of GivingD.A Happy Shopping ExperienceDWe’ve all e xperienced it. We invite a friend to dinner, only to learn that she is a Vegan. Vegan is someone who allows a diet that contains no animal meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, or any other food that comes from animals. They differ from vegetarians, who generally still eat dairy and eggs as part of their diets. Vegans also typically refuse to use any other products that come from animals, such as honey and leather jackets.Back in 2008, vegans only accounted for(占..比例)around 0.5 percent of the U.S. population, or about one million people. As of a survey taken in 2014, vegans now make up roughly 2.5 percent of the population. At least in the United States, women seem to be far bigger fans of veganism, making up around 79 percent of vegans.People on a vegan diet tend to be leaner. In a study of nearly 40,000 adults, meat eaters had the highest mean body mass index, or BML.Vegetarians were in the middle, and vegans had the lowest. Based on several studies from Finland, some scientists have suggested that vegan diets may be helpful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis(类风湿性关节炎). Vegans also appear to have lower rates of hypertension(高血压) than both meat eaters and vegetarians. Vegans also typically have lower cardio metabolic(心脏代谢) risks for conditions like heart disease or strokes. While there certainly may be some health advantages in going vegan, there seems to be some common deficiencies(缺陷)in the diet. One of these deficiencies is with the vitamin B-12. The ADA states that there are no natural plant foods that contain any significant amount of the vitamin. Vegans can still get it, but they need to take a vitamin or consume fortified foods like soy milk and certain breakfast cereals. we learn about the four jobs?A.They are demanding but popular.B.People can easily get them.C.The annual pay of the four jobs is roughly the same.D.They are only offered for young people.BKeith Peiris insists he is just a“normal kid”but that is far from the truth.The12-year-old boy heads one of the leading web-design companies in Canada. After an e-mail requesting a meeting during his three-day stay in Hong Kong,I received a call from Keith’s father.“You want to interview my son?Come tomorrow at8a.m.and you’ll have half an hour.”We met the next day.He nodded at me,but shyly lowered his head as he climbed into a chair. He looked a little nervous.“He really is just another kid,”I thought. But as soon as I started firing questions at him,his behavior changed. The child disappeared and the self-confident business person took over.“Call me Keith,”he offered softly.“I feel uneasy if people call me mister(先生).”He is a child as comfortable with interview techniques as most of his age are with surfing the Net.While other children click on their favourite sites,Keith is earning a six-figure salary designing them. All of Keith’s employees are at least twice his age.“My staff consider me an adult,”he said.“I am the boss, and they don’t mind taking orders form me.”His father did ask job applicants if they had a problem working for a boy, adding that several top people from major web-design companies were eager to work under his son.It all started for Keith at age10,after toying with software downloaded from a web site.He taught himself design and now produces lively,user-friendly sites which have won many design awards. But the business world has its price. He has had to grow up quickly.Unlike his peers(同龄人),the straight-A student watches little TV.After school he works and it is only at weekends that he can play. While Keith handles the creative side, his father handles the management and marketing. He says his role is supporting his son’s interests and ambitions.“We make decisions together.I haven’t done anything my son disagreed with.He makes the final decision.”4.What can we know about Keith during the interview?A.He answered the questions with his head lowered.B.He answered the questions with confidence.C.He felt a little nervous about the questions.D.He let another man answer the questions instead.5.What does the underlines sentence in Paragraph2really want to express?A.Keith is uncommon.B.Most kids are stupid.C.Most kids are normal.D.Keith earns good money.6.What is the main idea of Paragraph3?A.Adults work well under Keith.B.Keith can’t do so well as an adult.C.Keith is strict with his employees.D.All the top people hope to work under Keith.7.Which of the following can accurately describe Keith’s father’s role in Keith’s company?A.A guide.B.A decision maker.C.A planner.D.A helper.CTo get in shape soon, some people use“quick”methods without realizing that these methods can put their overall health in danger. For example, they lose weight by eating fat-free food. It’s true that consuming(消耗)fewer fats can help you get in shape sooner, but low fat foods like dried fruits, nuts, beans, etc, actually contain high amounts of calories. For example, fruit juice contains no fat,but has high calories,so drinking more than one glass of fruit juice won’t help in losing weight. To rely only on fruit and vegetable juice to lose weight is also a wrong method.By replacing your meal with only juice, you decrease the calorie intake(卡路里摄取量)greatly. It’ll help lose weight, but it can make you lack energy, leading to headaches, stomach disorders, etc. It’s true that exercise helps to keep healthy weight, but it’ll probably not help you much if you don’t take care of your diet by reducing your calorie intake. If you believe you can exercise every day and eat as much as you want, you’re incorrect. For healthy weight loss, you need to burn more calories than you consume. So,you need to limit the intake of food.Wrong weight loss methods are dangerous. So if in doubt, you’d better ask a doctor before starting weight loss.Luckily,it’s possible to lose weight with healthy methods. For example, follow healthy food habits, exercise regularly for20-30minutes every day,and go on with a healthy lifestyle even after you lose weight.Anyway,as you don’t gain weight overnight,it can’t be lost in a short time either.Give yourself some time.Although healthy methods may take a bit longer to work, they’re surely good for your body.8.We can know from the first paragraph that.A.fruit juice is low in fat and caloriesB.most people don’t lose weight safelyC.eating high fat foods helps lose weightD.some quick shaping methods may be harmful9.Relying on a liquid diet to lose weight is wrong because it.A.makes you skip mealsB.reduces the calorie intake greatlyC.can cause a few health problemsD.doesn’t help you to lose weight fast10.How can we get more calories burnt than we consume according to Paragraph3?A.By reducing mental pressure.B.By only drinking fruit juice.C.By having more rest.D.By exercising with food control.11.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A.We should be patient with losing weight.B.We can actually lose weight very easily.C.Regular exercise is enough for us to lose weight.D.We don’t have to consider our doctor’s advice.DRobots have certain advantages compared to humans. They are efficient, tireless, can be repaired when damaged and they never get sick. The last quality has made them the star during our fight against the COVID-19(新冠肺炎).While thousands of medical workers have fallen ill dealing with this highly infectious virus and a lot more have to stay at home for fear of getting the disease, this isn’t a problem for robots. This is why the COVID-19 outbreak is seen as the“tipping point”for robots to start to replace humans in certain jobs.In hospitals, robots are used to perform high-risk tasks. In China, for example,a hotel in Hangzhou employed a robot to deliver food to people under quarantine(隔离).In Spain, robots are about to be used to test people for the coronavirus(冠状病毒).In non-medical companies, robots are also replacing human employees since they don’t have the problem of the social distancing and will never take sick leave.Fast-food chains like McDonald’s are not only delivering food with robots in some areas, but also looking to use them as cooks and servers.Walmart and Amazon, for example, where robots are already used in packing and shipping, are planning to increase the number of robots in these areas. But this sudden boom in robot demand doesn’t mean that they can replace humans successfully in every aspect. According to Bill Smart,a roboticist at Oregon State University, the human contact between doctors and patients is still important.Doctors comfort the patients and guide them through hard decisions while robots are only doing daily tasks, like cleaning and giving tests. It might be true that robots have certain advantages over humans, but they are still secondary to human’s communication and emotion.12.Which of the following is not the advantage of robots over human beings?A.They never fall ill.B.They are efficient in work.C.They can offer the best emotion support.D.They can be repaired when damaged.13.Why does the author take McDonald’s and Walmart as examples?A.To explain robots are more intelligent than humans.B.To prove robots have social ability wherever they are.C.To prove McDonald’s and Walmart are famous in the world.D.To explain how robots replace humans in non-medical companies.14.What’s the meaning of the underlined part“sudden boom”in Paragraph4?A.Low supply.B.Sharp increase.C.Short explosion.D.Excellent performance.15.What’s the best title of this passage?A.The Tireless RobotsB.People’s Objection to RobotsC.Robots Aid in Coronavirus FightD.Robots Will Replace Humans第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。

Tom got up slowly but in a confident way. He looked so silent and still. However, there was a laugh from the boys in the classroom, because most of the boys thought that he would fail in this recitation. But he did not miss a word. He recited the poem so fluently that all his classmates were astonished at last. And his heart was full of joy when the teacher also stood up, applauding for his great performance.“Well done! Tom! Well done! Tell me how you made it!” said the teacher with great joy. “Please, sir, it was the snail on the wall that taught me how to do it,” said Tom, “I saw it crawl up the wall bit by bit. It did not stop, nor turn back, but went on and on. And I thought I would do the same with my task. So I just learned it bit by bit, and did not give up.” “Now, boys, let us give a good cheer for Tom Blair and the snail on the wall,” said the teacher. And the classroom rang with a loud, long cheer, for all were glad that “Slow Tom” had got the prize at last.。
