Time is very important in our lives. It organizes our everyday moments. However, time never had any importance in my life until I received a watch from my father that organized my life and made me more responsible.
It came from Denmark to the U. A.E.jewelry shop in a gray box.It weighs 8 oz.It’s round in the center with two silver bands that go around my wrist. And all of it is made of silver. This object tells me the importance of time in my life.
I received this gift on a gray-sky day.I had to go to the airport at 9:00 AM to pick up my Uncle Ali and take him to my father’s house. However,I was late because I was hanging out with my friends.Later on that day, around 11:00 AM,I remembered my uncle, but I was very late for him.He had left the airport and taken a taxi to my father’s house.
I got to my father’s house at 2:00 PM on the same day and looked at my angry father’s face.I felt ashamed of myself at that moment. After I said hi to my angry father and tired uncle,my father asked me to sit next to him where he handed me this watch which was a gift from him. Then he said,“Essa, did you have fun with your friends today?”I answered,“Yes,father, and I’m sorry about not picking up my Uncle Ali.”He said,“What you did was not very nice and you should be sorry for your actions.”I was ashamed and said,“Father,I’ll never do it again.I promise.”He said,“I hope today you learned something important, and this watch will be a reminder for you.”He told me to take this watch and use it as an organizer of my life.

Some people are lucky enough to be born with a good sense of direction and even if they have only visited a place once, they will be able to find it again years later.I am one of those unfortunate people who have an extremely poor sense of direction and I may have visited a place time after time, but I manage to get lost on my way there.
When I was a teenager,I was so shy that I never dared ask complete strangers the way and so I used to wander round in circles and hope that some miraculous (奇迹般的) chance would bring me to the spot I was heading for.I am no longer too embarrassed to ask people for directions, but I often receive extremely confusing replies and I am no more likely to get to my destination than I was if I had not stopped to ask the way.
A lot of people do not like to admit that they do not know their hometown and will insist on telling you the way even if they do not know it;others, who are anxious to prove that they know their hometown very well, will give you a long list of directions which you cannot possibly hope to remember;and still others do not seem to be able to distinguish between their left and their right and you eventually find that you are going in the opposite direction to that in which you should be going. If anyone ever asks me the way somewhere,I always tell them that I am a stranger to the town in order to avoid confusing them, but even this can have embarrassing results.
I was once on my way to work when I was stopped by a man who asked me if I would direct him to the Sunlight Insurance Building.I automatically gave my usual reply, but I had only walked on a few steps when I realized that he had asked for directions to my office building. However,at this
point,I decided it was too late to turn back and search him out of the crowd behind me as I had an appointment to keep at the office with a new client and I did not want to keep him waiting.Imagine my embarrassment when my secretary showed in the very man who had asked for directions to my office and his astonishment when be recognized me as the person he had asked.55.The main idea of this passage is .

B.those who give a rather complicated description of directions
C.those who often give the opposite directions to what one expects
D.those who’re eager to direct the way though they don’t know it at all
58.The author introduced his experience in the last two paragraphs in order to show that .A.people may make mistakes if they don’t be careful enough
B.people may sometimes make mistakes even if they try to avoid them
C.people can avoid any mistakes if they try to do so

There is no doubt that adults, and even highly educated adults, vary greatly in the speed and efficiency of their reading. Some proceed (进行) very slowly throughout;others dash along too quickly and then have to regress (返回).Poor readers in particular may lack the ability to vary their manner of reading according to the type of reading matter and to their intentions in reading it.A good reader can move at great speed through the text of a novel or similar light reading matter. He may be able to skim a page, picking up a word or two here and there, and gain a general idea of what the text is about without really reading it.In reading more difficult material, with the intention of taking in
the whole of it,he will proceed more slowly, but even then he will vary his pace, concentrating on the key words and passages, perhaps re-reading them several times and pass more quickly over the remainder.A less efficient reader tends to maintain the same speed whatever the material he reads.Consequently, even light reading matter gives him little pleasure because he reads so slowly. But this pace may be too fast for really difficult material, which requires special concentration at difficult points.
A type of reading which needs careful attention to detail is proofreading,in which the reader,in order to discover misprints in a sample print, has to notice not so much the meaning of what he reads as the exact shape and order of letters and words in the text. This is extremely difficult for most people, since they are accustomed to overlooking such details. In fact, considerable practice is required to practice this task efficiently and it can be done only by reading very slowly, and by paying comparatively little attention to the general meaning of the text.
59.The author claims that there is a difference in reading speed .
A.among readers who have different experience
B.among readers from different professions
C.among individual readers
D.among the highly educated people
60.A good reader is one who .

A.proofreading needs special attention to the details
B.the faster you read, the better you understand
C.a good reader is always good at proofreading

A.reading carefully in order to understand the material well
B.reading in great detail in order to check errors, especially misprints of the material
C.reading from the very beginning to the end in order to locate some good words
D.reading carefully in order to find the answer to some questions
D
A few years ago it was fashionable to speak of a generation gap,a division between young people and their elders.Parents complained that children did not show them proper respect and obedience, while children complained that their parents did not understand them at all. What had gone wrong? Why had the generation gap suddenly appeared?Actually, the generation gap has been around for a long time. Many critics argue that it built into the fabric of our society. One important cause of the generation gap is the opportunity that young people have to choose their own life-styles.In more traditional societies when children grow up,they are expected to live in the same area as their parents,to marry people that their parents know and approve of,and often to continue the family occupation. In our society, young people often travel great distances for their education, move out of the family home at an early age,marry-or live with-people whom their parents have never met,and choose occupations different from those of their parents. In our upwardly mobile society, parents often expect their children to do better than they did:to find better jobs,to make more money, and to do all the things that they were unable to do.Often, however, the ambitions the parents have for their children are another cause of the division between them.Often, they discover that they have very little in common with each other. Finally, the speed at which changes take place in our society is another cause of the gap between the generations. In a traditional culture, elder people are valued for their wisdom, but in our society the knowledge of lifetime may become obsolete overnight. The young and the old seem to live in two very different worlds, separated by different skills and abilities.
No doubt, the generation gap will continue to be a feature of American life for some time to come. Its causes are rooted in the freedoms and opportunities of our society, and in the rapid pace at which society changes.

Today our lives are changing faster than at any time in history. Here we report on three important changes that will have a big influence on our everyday lives in the future. The cashless society Cash and bank-notes will disappear almost completely. They will be replaced by cards—plastic cards with processors“loaded”with some money. When we pay for goods, the shop assistant will insert our small card into a payment terminal and money will be transferred from our card to the shop’s card. When all the money is used up,we will be able to“load”it by inserting it into a telephone, dialing our bank account and transferring money to the card from the account. If we want to transfer money from our card to a bank account,we will use the same method.Cards will be able to hold several different kinds of money at the same time,so if we go aboard,we will use our smart cards in the same way.
Interactive telephones Human telephone operators will be sharply replaced by talking computers. These computers will recognize speech, ask us what information we need, get the information from a database, and change it to speech. If we want to book a flight or pay a bill by phone,we will interact with a talking computer to do so.Of course, this won’t happen until all the technology is in place, but when it is we will soon get used to interacting with computers in this way.Human telephone will be used only for more complex operation such as dealing with complaints.
Intelligent cars Traffic jams in cities will be reduced because drivers will use electronic maps to find the quickest way to their destination.Traffic jams will also decrease when electronic systems start charging motorists for driving in cities. As soon as motorists have to pay to drive in cities, they will stop using their cars and use public transport instead.Speed control systems will be built into cars. These systems will automatically manage the speed of the car to take account of traffic and weather conditions and prevent accidents. It will be many years before these changes bring results but when they do,there will be a big improvement in road safety.
67.When you transfer money from your card to your bank account, you will .。
