Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don't know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It's best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time w i s e l y s o y o u c a n a c h i e v e e v e r y t h i n g y o u n e e d t o. Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school I was really nervous, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn't really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
David, Aged 19
I'm not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening (令人恐惧的). But you'll get used to it. Don't be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you're afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it's really not bad at all. Don't worry.

A. Teachers are quite strict.
B. Students often stay up at night.

Now, Katie is not only about to graduate from Southridge High School in Oregon, but she was also named the school's prom (高中毕业舞会) queen.
Knowing Katie's wishes for prom queen, her friend Courtney Travis began reaching out to find her the prom king she needed to make her a queen. Courtney found Michael Parks, who also thought it was a great idea. “I really got to know Shipley,” said Michael. “When you take the time to get to know other people, it really give s you a great chance to live for more than yourself.”
Courtney took a picture of the couple together and put it on her Twitter, explaining their plans for the prom. “It became very popular in the school,” she said. Their efforts paid off, and Katie was very excited to be named prom queen. On
the day of the prom, Katie wore a very beautiful dress. Her grandmother, Joan Fraley, who also went to the prom, said the night will stay with her always.
“I was standing there and the children were shouting her name,” she said. “They called her name as the new prom queen —I started crying. I'm greatly thankful to the students of Southridge High School.”
Katie repeated that feeling. “I just want to say thank you to my friends for all they did for me. I love you all.”
Todd Corsetti, the principal (校长) at Southridge High School said that seeing Katie as prom queen and the energy and help of his students is one of his “proudest moments.”

The English language has a lot of words which can be used in many different ways and in many different expressions.
One such example is the word matter. In fact, matter can mean just about anything. It could be one of the most useful words in the English language.
Let's get to the heart of the matter — a matter of principle (原则).
If someone says that you owe (欠) him $50, but you don't, a friend might say, “Well, you could pay him the $50. It's not that much money. Then you won't have to hear him say it anymore.” But if you do not owe him the money, do not pay him the money. It's a matter of principle.
There is another way to use the word matter. But be careful with your choice of words.
If you ask someone, “What's the matter?”, it shows you are worried about the other person. But saying, “What's the matter with you?” h as a completely different meaning. And it usually sounds rude (粗鲁的). In fact, when you say, “What's the matter with you?”, you are suggesting that the person did something wrong or stupid.
Another expression that could sound rude is to say, “It doesn't matter to me.” Here, it depends on the context, and how you say it.Let's say you tell someone that a friend just got a big raise at work. That person answers with, “It doesn't matter to me.” Here, it means he or she does not care. And it sounds rude.
But say ing, “Oh, you pick where we eat dinner. It doesn't matter to me.” does not sound rude. In this situation, “it doesn't matter” shows you are easy-going (随和的).
No matter how you look at it and what you say, matter is a very useful word. And it's only a matter of time before you will become an expert on the use of matter.
28. We can infer from the text that the word matter _____.
A. has a wide use
B. can mean money
C. is the most used English word
D. has the most different expressions
29. What is the author's suggestion in Paragraph 4?
A. Every penny counts.
B. Stick to what is right.
C. Follow your friend's advice.
D. Be careful when making friends.
30. The underlined word “context” in the text probably means _____.
A. choice
B. person
C.
situation D. answer
31. The author develops the text mainly by _____.
A. using examples
B. giving instructions

Sydney—Mobile phone has become a problem for middle schools. Some middle schools in Australia have banned(禁止)students from carrying mobile phones during school hours.
Mobile phone use among children has become a problem for the school this year. Several children have got mobile phones as Christmas gifts, and more students want them.

She said some schools had tried to ban mobile phones. Some parents felt unhappy because they couldn’t get in touch with their children.
Many teachers said students should not have mobile phones at school, but if there was a good reason, they could leave their phones at school offices. They also said there were many reasons why the students should not have mobile phones at school: they were easy to lose and were a distraction from studies.

Hi, Lisa,
I'm sorry to learn that you are having such a bad time.Actually, most people will feel homesick and anxious when they leave home and come to a new place, especially a foreign country. So don't worry too much.
Here are some tips for you. First, you'd better try to change some of your habits so that you can get used to the new environment as soon as possible. Second, make more new friends, who can share their hobbies and ideas with you. You will feel less
homesick with many friends around you. Third, you should take part in some social activities. It will help you learn more about the local customs and cultures.
I hope my advice will be useful.
Yours,
Li Lei

Gucci, one of the most famous fashion houses in the world, was started in Italy in 1921 by a man named Guccio Gucci, a designer who made leather bags and suitcases. Guccio had a small shop in Florence, which was the beginning of the Gucci family business. By 1953 Guccio’s four sons, Aldo, Ugo, Vasco, and Rodolfo, were all working for the company.
When Guccio died in 1953, his eldest son Aldo became the head of Gucci and took the Gucci business to America, while Rodolfo managed the Italian side of the business.
After Aldo Gucci died in 1990, his nephew, Maurizio, became the head of Gucci. Unfortunately, Maurizio wasn’t a very good businessman and in 1991 the company lost $60 mil lion. This was the worst year in Gucci’s history. Gucci products are still sold all over the world, but there are no members of the Gucci family in the successful company we know today.
