My Daily School Life in the United States
Hi everyone! My name is Johnny and I am an 8-year-old student in the 3rd grade. Today I want to share with you all about my typical day at school here in the United States. Going to school is really fun and there is never a boring moment!
Every morning, my mom wakes me up at 7am so I have time to get ready. I stumble out of bed, put on my favorite
Spider-Man pajamas, and head to the kitchen for breakfast. My mom makes the best pancakes with chocolate chips - they are my favorite! After scarfing down my food, I brush my teeth and get dressed in my school uniform which is khaki pants and a polo shirt with our school's logo.
At 8am, the big yellow school bus arrives outside my house to pick me and my neighbors up. I love the bus ride because I get to sit next to my best friend Michael and we chat and joke around the whole way. When we get to school at 8:30am, we line up outside with our class and our teacher Mrs. Johnson leads us inside.
The first class of the day is always math. I used to find math kind of hard and boring, but Mrs. Johnson makes it really fun with games and group work. After math, we have language arts where we work on reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. My favorite story we read this year was The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe - it was so imaginative and exciting!
Around 11:30am, we get our lunch break. I get a hot lunch from the cafeteria and it's always a surprise what they are serving - sometimes it's pizza, other days tacos or chicken nuggets. My least favorite is the meatloaf though, it looks kind of gross! After eating, we have 30 minutes of recess to run around and play games outside. Lots of kids like basketball and soccer, but I prefer just running around chasing my friends.
In the afternoon, we have science and social studies classes. Science is awesome, we get to do lots of hands-on experiments and projects. We made volcanos out of vinegar and baking soda which was a huge mess but really cool to see erupt! For social studies, we are learning about American history and famous leaders like Abraham Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Finally at 3pm, the end of the school day comes and we get ready to go back home. Once I get home, I have a snack like an apple or crackers, and then I work on any homework I was
assigned that day. Sometimes I need help from my parents, especially with those tricky math word problems! After homework, I have some free time to play video games, read books, or hang out with friends outside before dinner.
In the evenings, we eat dinner as a family and talk about our days. Then I take a shower, put on pajamas, and get ready for bed around 8pm. I read a book or play on my tablet until 9pm when it's officially lights out.
School days go by in a flash, but they are always filled with so much learning, laughter, and fun with friends. I feel very lucky to get a great education in a safe environment surrounded by caring teachers and classmates. Even though the work can be challenging sometimes, I appreciate the opportunity to learn new things every single day. I can't wait to see what the rest of my school years have in store!

My School Life in America
Hi everyone! My name is Amy and I am a 5th grader at Oak Valley Elementary School. I moved to the United States from China with my parents two years ago. Living and studying here has been an amazing adventure!
Oak Valley is a big school with over 600 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The building is pretty old, built in the 1960s, but it has been renovated and looks super nice inside. We have big classrooms, a huge library, computer labs, art rooms, a gymnasium, and even a theater for shows and assemblies.
My typical day at school is really fun but also very busy! I wake up at 6:30 am and get ready for school. My mom packs a healthy lunch for me every morning - usually a sandwich, fruits, veggies, and a juice box or milk. The school day starts at 8:15 am and ends at 3:00 pm.
In the morning, we have reading, writing, and math classes. I really like math and do well in it. Writing is okay but sometimes I find it a bit challenging since English is my second language. During reading class, we read all sorts of cool books and novels. My favorites are the Harry Potter series!
We have a 20-minute snack recess in the morning where everyone goes outside to play and have a little snack. I like to play basketball and jump rope with my friends during recess. After that, we have science, social studies, and other special classes like art, music, computer class, and P.E.
Lunchtime is from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm. We get to hang out in the cafeteria and enjoy our lunches. Then we go outside for
lunch recess before afternoon classes start. I really look forward to lunch recess because I can run around and play fun games like tag and four square with my friends.
In the afternoon, we have more academic classes mixed in with some "fun" classes like art and music. Art is probably my favorite subject because I love drawing, painting, and doing crafty projects. We also have P.E. twice a week where we play sports and do fitness activities.
School gets out at 3 pm and the buses line up to take kids home. I take the bus home every day since my house is not too close to the school. Sometimes, my parents pick me up if they get off work early. Once I'm home, I have a snack, relax for a bit, and then start my homework. I have about 1-2 hours of homework every night which keeps me pretty busy.
On weekends, I get to sleep in late which is awesome! My parents take me to the park, the library, shopping malls, or other fun places. I also attend a Chinese language school on Sundays to keep practicing my native language skills.
I really love my life here in the U.S. The schools are great, the teachers are very nice, and I've made so many good friends. Everyone has been super welcoming to me even though I was the new kid who didn't speak much English at first. I'm so happy
my parents decided to move our family here. America is an amazing place with endless opportunities!

My School Life in America
Hi everyone! My name is Jamie and I'm 10 years old. I'm a
5th grade student at Franklin Elementary School here in Los Angeles, California. I want to tell you all about my typical school day and what it's like being a student in America!
Every morning, my mom wakes me up around 7am so I have time to get ready. I put on my school uniform which is navy blue pants or skirt with a white polo shirt that has our school's logo on it. I brush my teeth, comb my hair, and head to the kitchen for breakfast. My favorite is waffles with syrup and fruit!
At 8am, my dad drives me to school. The school day starts at 8:30am and goes until 3pm. We have a few small breaks throughout the day like for snack time and recess to play outside. But most of the day is spent in our classroom learning.
In the morning we have Reading, Writing, and Math class. Reading is my favorite subject - I love getting lost in good books! We just finished a super exciting novel called "Holes" about a
boy who gets sent to a camp in the desert. In Writing, we've been working on essays and stories. Math class is probably my least favorite because I find some of the concepts tricky, but I'm getting better at it.
After those main subjects, we switch to other classes like Science, Social Studies, and Computer/Technology. We learn really cool things! In Science, we just started a unit on ecosystems and environments. Social Studies is all about American history and geography. In Computer class, we're coding our own simple video games.
Around noon we go to the cafeteria for lunch. They have hot meals you can buy like pizza, chicken nuggets, or a salad bar. Or you can bring your own lunch from home like I do. I'm not a fan of the cafeteria food! After lunch we go outside for recess to run around and play games with friends.
In the afternoon, we have P.E. (physical education) twice a week where we play sports and do fitness activities in the gym or outside on the field. We also have an Art class once a week where we get to do fun crafts and projects. And there's Music class too where we sing songs and learn about instruments. Those are my favorite "extra" classes!
School gets out at 3pm and I take the bus home. We have a bus driver who goes through our neighborhood picking up kids from my school. When I get home in the afternoon, I have a snack and get started on my homework. I usually have reading to do and math worksheets or occasionally a writing assignment or project to work on. I try to get it all done before dinner.
After homework, I have some free time to relax and do activities I enjoy. I take dance classes two nights a week. I'm also on a softball team that practices twice a week in the evenings too. When I'm not doing extracurriculars, I love playing outside with my friends who live nearby, reading for fun, or watching shows and movies.
Bedtime is around 9pm during the school week. I take a bath, put on my pajamas, and my parents come read me a bedtime story and tuck me in. I always sleep really well because I have such a busy day at school!
Even though I have to wake up early and spend most of the day at school, I enjoy going. My teachers are really nice and I've made lots of great friends. We learn so many interesting things and have a lot of fun activities too. There's never a dull moment during the school day!
One of my favorite times of the year is when we go on field trips. Last year we went to an art museum, a science center, and a play at the community theater. This year I'm really hoping we get to go to the zoo! I love hands-on learning experiences outside of the classroom.
We also have events and activities at school that make it exciting. Every month we have an assembly where we learn about important topics, celebrate students' accomplishments, or have special performances. There are also spirit days where we can。
