My Fantastic School Life
Hi there! My name is Emily, and I'm a 7th grader at Greenwood Middle School. I love learning new things every day, especially in my English class. Let me tell you all about the exciting adventures I've had so far this semester!
Unit 1: Healthy Living
One of the first topics we covered was healthy living. I learned so much about the importance of exercise, proper nutrition, and taking care of our bodies. Did you know that eating a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables can help us stay energized and focused? It's true! My favorite healthy snack is fresh strawberries – they're sweet, juicy, and packed with vitamins.
Speaking of exercise, our teacher organized a fun fitness challenge for the class. We had to track our daily steps using pedometers for a week. I was determined to beat my classmates,
so I started walking to school instead of taking the bus. Not only did I get plenty of exercise, but I also enjoyed the fresh morning air and the chance to chat with my friends along the way.
Unit 2: Exploring Nature
Next up, we dove into the wonders of nature. I've always loved spending time outdoors, but this unit truly opened my eyes to the incredible diversity of plant and animal life on our planet. We learned about different ecosystems, from lush rainforests to vast deserts, and the amazing creatures that call them home.
One of the highlights was our class field trip to the local nature reserve. We went on a guided hike and spotted all sorts of fascinating wildlife, like squirrels scampering up trees and colorful birds flitting through the branches. Our guide taught us how to identify different plant species by their leaves and flowers.
I even got to hold a caterpillar – it was so tiny and fuzzy!
Unit 3: Cultural Celebrations

My favorite part was learning about the Mexican Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos. We made beautiful paper marigold flowers and decorated sugar skulls with bright colors and patterns. It was a fun and creative way to honor our loved ones who have passed away.
Unit 4: Discovering New Places
Finally, we embarked on a journey to discover new places around the world. We learned about famous landmarks, fascinating cities, and breathtaking natural wonders. Just imagine standing in front of the towering pyramids of Giza or gazing up at the majestic peaks of the Himalayas!
Our class had a blast creating travel brochures for our dream destinations. I chose to showcase the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I researched all about the incredible marine life, from vibrant coral reefs to friendly sea turtles. My brochure was filled with colorful photos and fun facts, like did you know the Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on Earth? It's even visible from space!

My Life as a 7th Grader
Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm a 7th grade student. Being in 7th grade is pretty awesome - I'm right in the middle of middle school now. Middle school is kind of like being caught between being a little kid and being a teenager. It can definitely be confusing at times, but I'm doing my best to navigate it all!
One of the biggest challenges I've faced recently is trying to keep up with all my schoolwork. In 7th grade, the assignments and expectations have really ramped up from elementary school.
I have to be super organized with my time management to get everything done. My classes cover a wide range of subjects too - math, science, English, history, and more. It's a lot to juggle!
In math this year, we're learning all about things like algebra, ratios, probability, and geometry. I have to admit, some of the algebra stuff has my head spinning sometimes. All those x's and
y's get confusing! I find geometry a little easier to grasp though. Studying shapes, angles, and measurements makes more intuitive sense to me. I just have to put in the practice on the algebra equations.
My science class this semester is all about life science - biology, ecology, that sort of thing. We just finished up a unit on cells, which was pretty interesting learning about the building blocks of life. Although I have to say, trying to remember all those different organelle names was a challenge! My favorite part was getting to look at cells under a microscope. It was so crazy to see those little guys up close. Now we're moving on to learn about the human body's systems like the circulatory system and digestive system. I'm excited for that unit since it's always cool to understand more about how our own bodies work.
In English class, we've been digging deep into analyzing literature and understanding figurative language. Poetry has definitely been the biggest challenge for me in that area. Trying to interpret all the hidden meanings and symbolic language in poems makes my brain hurt sometimes! I have an easier time analyzing fiction stories, at least on a surface level. Although I have to say, my fiction comprehension could still use some work when it comes to complex themes and character motivations.
Writing has always been one of my stronger suits though. I really enjoy creative writing assignments where I get to stretch my imagination.
For history this year, we're covering ancient world civilizations and cultures. We spent a couple months learning all about ancient Greece and Rome, which was awesome. I loved discovering all the myths and legends from Greek mythology. The stories of gods like Zeus, Poseidon, and Hercules were so entertaining! Getting the chance to see recreations of ancient Greek and Roman architecture was really cool too. Now we're moving on to study ancient Asian civilizations like China and India. I'm looking forward to learning about their rich histories and cultural traditions.
When I'm not busy with schoolwork, I do my best to find time for fun too! One of my favorite extracurricular activities is being part of the school band. I play the trumpet, and while it took some practice to avoid playing sour notes at first, I've really grown to love it. There's nothing as exhilarating as performing an amazing concert with all my fellow band mates!
I'm also a huge sports fan and athlete. For school sports, I play on the soccer team in the fall and run track in the spring. Soccer is probably my favorite - there's just something epic
about scoring a goal after a long run down the field. Plus, I love being part of a tight-knit team working together towards a common objective. Track is awesome too though. I love competing one-on-one against myself each meet, constantly trying to set new personal bests in my events.
Speaking of chores, I definitely have my fair share of those to take care of at home. Between cleaning my room, doing laundry, taking out the trash, and other household tasks, I stay pretty busy. My parents are always stressing about how important it is for me to pitch in and learn responsibility. My Life as a 7th Grader
Hi there! My name is Emily, and I'm a 7th grader at Oakwood Middle School. It's been quite a year so far, and I've learned a lot of new things in my English class. Let me tell you all about it!
In the first unit, we learned about different hobbies and interests people have. I found out that my best friend, Sarah, is really into photography. She showed me some of her pictures, and they were amazing! She takes photos of nature, like flowers
and birds, but also of people and everyday objects. Sarah says photography helps her see the beauty in the world around her.
As for me, I'm more into sports, especially basketball. I play on the school team, and we practice every week. Our coach teaches us new techniques and strategies, and I've gotten much better at dribbling and shooting. Playing basketball is not just fun; it also keeps me active and healthy.
In the second unit, we talked about different cultures and traditions from around the world. I was fascinated to learn about the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico. They have these beautiful altars with colorful decorations and offerings for their deceased loved ones. It's a way to honor their memories and keep their spirits alive.
We also learned about the Chinese New Year festivities. Every year, families get together for a big feast and give out red envelopes with money inside as a symbol of good luck. The celebrations last for days, and there are dragon dances and fireworks. It all sounds so vibrant and exciting!

Another big issue we covered was deforestation. Forests are being cut down at an alarming rate, which is bad news for all the plants and animals that live there. It's also contributing to climate change because trees absorb carbon dioxide. I've started recycling more and turning off lights when I leave a room to do my part.
The fourth unit was all about technology and how it's changing our lives. We discussed the pros and cons of social media. On one hand, it helps us stay connected with friends and family. But on the other hand, it can be addictive and lead to cyberbullying or spreading misinformation.
We also learned about exciting new technologies like 3D printing, which can create all sorts of objects from plastic, metal, or other materials. And we talked about artificial intelligence and how it might impact different industries in the future. Some people are worried AI could take over human jobs, but others think it will create new opportunities.
Phew, that's a lot to cover in just four units! But I've really enjoyed learning about all these interesting topics. My English
class has opened my eyes to different cultures, global issues, and the rapidly changing world we live in.
Looking ahead, I'm excited but also a bit nervous to start high school in a couple of years. I'll have to take more challenging classes and figure out what I want to do after graduation. Will I go to college? What kind of career do I want? So many big decisions!
But for now, I'm just trying to enjoy being a kid – playing sports, hanging out with friends, and learning as much as I can. 7th grade has been a blast so far, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store!

My Big Adventures in School This Year
Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm a 7th grader at Oakwood Middle School. This has been such an exciting and busy school year so far, with lots of new things to learn and experience. Let me tell you all about the adventures I've had!
At the start of the year, we jumped right into learning about different jobs and careers. I found it so interesting to explore all the possibilities for what I could be when I grow up. My friend Sarah wants to be a scientist, studying cool things like black holes and planets. Peter hopes to become an engineer, designing awesome skyscrapers and bridges. As for me, I'm really interested in maybe being a writer or journalist. I love putting words together and storytelling.
In that same unit, we also learned about different cultures around the world. We studied traditions, food, clothing, and more from places like Mexico, India, Kenya, and China. It was amazing getting to experience a tiny piece of how diverse our world is. For our class culture fair, I did a whole report and display on Japan, complete with origiami cranes I folded myself. I even brought in some mochi ice cream for people to try. Yum!
Then in our next unit, we spent a lot of time talking about looking after our health and bodies. We learned about the importance of eating a balanced diet with lots of fruits, veggies,
protein, and whole grains. We also did fitness challenges, seeing how many push-ups and jumping jacks we could do. I'm pretty good at the jumping jacks! The coolest part though was getting to learn about the human body and all its crazy complex systems. Did you know you have about 60,000 miles of blood vessels? Wild!
That unit on health tied right into our most recent one - exploring the great outdoors. We went on some really fun field trips to nearby parks and nature preserves. I had never been hiking on proper trails through the woods before. It was peaceful but also got my heart pumping! We learned about plants, animals, conservation efforts, and just how important it is to protect our environment. I can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can go camping as a class. S'mores, here I come!
There's been so much more packed into this year too. We read classic novels likeThe Secret Garden and did group projects analyzing the themes. In math, we got into algebra for the first time which was intimidating at first but I'm getting the hang of it. In history, we're studying the Civil War era which has been heavy but crucial to understand. I'm really developing a love for learning about the past.
On top of all the academics, I'm staying super active too. I joined the school volleyball team this year which is my first time playing a team sport. Our big tournament is coming up in a few weeks and I can't wait! I've made so many new friends through the team. I'm also in the creative writing club where we spend time writing stories and poems, then sharing them with each other. It's an incredibly supportive environment to express myself.
As I look ahead to the last few months of 7th grade, I feel both excited and a little sad to leave this year behind. I've learned so much, but there's still so much more to explore and discover, both in school and in life. I know I'll always cherish the adventures and milestones of this year. It's been a period of tremendous growth and change for me.
To all the other 7th graders out there, I encourage you to just dive into everything head first! Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, because that's where the real magic happens. Join clubs, take chances on new subjects, spend time outdoors, and soak in every experience. Most importantly though, don't forget to appreciate the journey itself. My Life as a Middle Schooler
Hi there! My name is Emily and I'm a 7th grader at Oakwood Middle School. A lot has happened in my life over the past couple years, so I thought I'd take some time to write about my experiences as a middle schooler.
One of the biggest changes for me was starting at a new school last year for 6th grade. I was pretty nervous about going to middle school at first. The building was so much bigger than my old elementary school, with multiple floors and hundreds of classrooms. I was worried about getting lost or not being able to find my classrooms on time. But luckily, the teachers and student guides helped show us around during orientation before classes started. After a week or two, I felt like I had the hang of it.
Another thing that made me anxious was having different teachers for each subject, instead of just one teacher like in elementary school. At first it was stressful to have to learn all the different rules, teaching styles and homework policies for each class. But I realized that having different teachers who specialized in each subject area was actually really cool. They were all really passionate about their subjects and could go into much more depth than a general elementary teacher.
Making new friends was definitely a challenge when I started 6th grade too. I didn't know anyone at my new school besides a couple kids from my neighborhood. But I made an effort to be friendly, introduced myself to people, and invited classmates to sit together at lunch. I joined the art club which helped me meet people with similar interests. Now in 7th grade, I've made some
great friends that I sit with every day and hang out with on the weekends.
One of my favorite experiences so far has been joining the track and field team last spring. I've always enjoyed running around and being active, but I had never done an organized sport before. Track seemed perfect because you can choose different running or field events based on your interests. I ended up really enjoying the long distance running events like the 1600m and 3200m. Our team practiced every day after school and then had weekend meets against other schools in the area. It felt so satisfying to see my times improving race after race. Plus my teammates were all super supportive and positive. I can't wait for the track season to start again!
My science classes have also ramped up this year. In 6th grade science, we learned about cells, the periodic table, and basic chemistry. This year in 7th grade, we're digging deeper into biology, anatomy, and the environment. A few weeks ago, we even got to dissect frogs in our lab class. It was a little gross but definitely interesting to see the organs up close instead of just in diagrams. Science is one of my favorite subjects because I find the natural world so fascinating. Maybe I'll pursue a science career one day.
English/language arts has been an interesting journey as well. Back in elementary school, I really just focused on learning grammar, spelling and the basics of putting sentences together. Now in middle school, we're reading novels, analyzing poetry and themes, and focusing much more on writing skills. Some of my favorite units so far have been studying famous speeches and their use of rhetoric. I got to write and deliver a short speech to my class on a cause that I care about. My speech was about the importance of recycling and reducing plastic waste.
Social studies is one of those subjects that got considerably tougher in middle school too. We've primarily been studying American history this year - everything from the colonial era and the American Revolution up through the Civil War. I find the subject matter really interesting, but manual for remembering all the specific dates, names, events, etc. My teacher says developing strong study habits now will pay off when I get to more challenging history courses in high school and college.
Something I've realized this year is that staying organized is crucial for success in middle school. Between rotating classes, managing homework/assignments from different teachers, keeping track of test dates and projects, and juggling extracurriculars – it can be easy for everything to devolve into
chaos if you're not disciplined. I've found that using a dedicated planner/agenda book and setting reminders on my laptop really helps me stay on top of things. My backpack is basically my lifeline, holding all my binders, textbooks, notebooks and supplies. I try to clean out and organize my backpack regularly so nothing gets lost in the shuffle.
One of the biggest struggles of middle school life is just dealing with the crazy roller coaster of emotions that comes with being a pre-teenager. One minute I'll be laughing with my friends, and the next I'm totally embarrassed about something small or feeling inexplicably angry. Mood swings, I've learned, are just part of the journey. I'm starting to go through physical changes too, which can sometimes make me feel awkward or self-conscious. It helps to surround myself with supportive friends who are going through similar experiences. My parents assure me that staying patient, being kind to myself, and focusing on personal growth will help me get through this transition smoothly.
So that's a little glimpse into my life as a middle school student! There have definitely been challenges as I've navigated this new world of higher academic expectations, changing friend groups, extracurriculars and the whole gamut of
physical/emotional changes that come with puberty. But there have been so many positive experiences too - developing deeper interests, discovering my potential through activities like track, and pushing myself to grow as a student and person. While it can be stressful and overwhelming at times, I'm really appreciating this pivotal transition from kid to teen. I know the lessons and skills I'm building now will set me up for success in high school and beyond. If you're a middle schooler reading this, just know that you've got this! Hang in there, work hard, and enjoy the adventure.。
